On 3 different occasions now I've been basically told I needed to recieve the Holy Spirit. I've prayed but what else do I do for that to happen.

I know some people believe once you get saved this automatically happens but I also know Paul prayed for people to recieve the Holy Spirit.

Do I need people to pray for me?

What do I do?

-edit I just realize I need to be specific about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit...sorry.

The answer is: No. you don't have to wait for some miraculous manifestation of the Holy Spirit. As a believer you already have the Spirit dwelling in you. As a member of the Body of Christ you also have the authority which Christ gave His church through the Holy Spirit. What you've been told is to pray for a certain experience which is never taught of in the Bible.

Hey, a few things that might help you out, everyones experience with the Holy Spirit is different, some feel like electric tingling feeling, some describe it as waves of love, each person is different. It is dangerious to seek to have the exact experience of someone else. With the Holy Spirit, I recieved it a week after I was saved, I prayed for the gift of tounges, and recieved it. One thing i have realized is that though toungues is a sign of the Holy Spirit, You don't have to speak in tounges. Now what is the holy spirit, he searches the mind and the heart, and searches the deep things of God, he is a person, not an essence, the scriptures clearly describe him as if he where a person, Now, with the Holy Spirit, ask God, pray about it, and keep praying, the Lord will reveal things, and if the Lord is speaking to ya, than honestly you are his. Jesus said "My sheep hear my voice, they follow me" now a few things the Holy Spirit does, he gives you understanding of the spiritual, and knowledge on the Lord, he gives gifts as he wills. He is nessisary to have a relationship with Jesus. Now, keep studying, and praying, ya might already have him. Rember everyone is different, and everyone the Holy Spirit will work in different ways.

Yeah! You need the Holy Spirit baptism. There is a filling that happens apart from the indwelling that happens at salvation. Paul had many infillings. We can have them many times. All you need do is ask Jesus to fill you! He will do it.

Blessings! :emot-highfive:

We're indwelt by the Holy Spirit at the moment of conversion.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit is different. I guess, to use a crude analogy, if the indwelling is inside you, the baptism is over you. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is what happened to the disciples at Pentecost in the Upper Room.

They were told to wait in Jerusalem for this to happen, to recieve power to go out and preach the Gospel. I don't think this has so much to do with salvation, as it does with recieveing power to become a more effective witness for Christ. We're told this is a gift. If you don't want it, don't take it, but it's something God has for you, if you do want it.

Praying by yourself and believing that you've recieved is all that's necessary. This is how my pastor's wife did it. Jesus said the Father would give the Spirit for those who ask. That's how come we can believe it. I had people pray over me, my pastor, his wife, a couple elders, but that isn't necessary. All you need is you and Him.

I pray you find what you're looking for, sweetie. If you're more curious or have more questions, PM me. I'd be glad to go into more detail then or in this thread. :emot-highfive:

Some people need to "feel" the Holy Spirit at the time of re-birth because God knows us better than we know ourselves. Some who become born again just know the Holy Spirit dwells within them because of their faith. If you are concerened about "feeling" the Holy Spirit, there is no need because the moment we step into the light, the Holy Spirit becomes alive and dwells within us.

My experience was one of divine intervention. The moment I believed after reading the four spiritual laws, I suddenly found myself in tears of joy that I knew more than felt the Holy Spirit within me. But God, knowning me better than I know myself, had to give me proof, evidence that He is alive and living within me by touching me with a warmth and light I've never known from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. Not everyone experiences that. But if you are a believer, just KNOW that the Holy Spirit is what guides you and Trust that God does keep His promise. It is a matter of trust and faith. Do not let the abomination of this world tear you down but allow the goodness and abundant love of the Lord build you up. Yes, pray, pray for others, pray for guidence and wisdom but not for things that vanish and have no value for again I say, this world is temporary and will perish.

I have had over 20 years to give myself to the Lord but there were many times I fell into the realm of sinful desires from lack of faith but it takes time to become a mature Christian and many trials to go through as our experiences help others and produce endurance and perserverance in HIM. Faith and Trust is a must to get through this temporary existence of life. Because what lies beyond is the Kingdom of God and all the mysteries we have attempted to figure out will all be revealed in His Glory.

God giveth the Holy GHost to his worthy children in several ways according to the bible.

Acts 2:38 Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus CHrist and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 8:17,18,& 19 Holy Ghost is given by the laying on of hands

Acts 2:4 Holy Ghost was given to many duirng Pentacost and were able to speak in tongues

Acts 19:2 Holy Ghost is NOT given just by believing

Acts 19:6 And when Paul layed his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came upon them .....

Acts 5:32 Holy Ghost is only given to those who obey God

Acts 15:8 And God who knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost ....

These scriptures tells us that God sees our hearts and gives the gift of the Holy Spirit as he sees worthy for his work and purpose. The sure way to receive the Holy Ghost though is 1) Have faith in Christ as your Savior 2) Repent or our sins 3) Baptize in water as Christ did 4) Receive the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands by those with the proper authority (Priesthood) 5) Endure to the end (Believe in Christ and keep his commandments till the end) Only then will his atonement fulfill it's purpose of giving us the gift of Eternal Life

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
