NCV bible? is it good?

Hola, a few days ago I was buying a bible for a friend, and I found what apeared to be an awesome teen bible, it was a NCV version, I bought it, and after reading a little bit of it took it back,

starting at genises 1:1 God created the earth and the sky,

which really got me a little awkward about it,

than I started reading it, and it seemed as if it where dulling down the bibles rebukes against unrighteousness in romans chapter 1, and there was countless things that I didnt agree with,

Whats your opinions on it?

I guess that would be the New Century Version? I did some comparison and I'm NOT sure that I like the following passage in Romans 1 from it:

Romans 1:4 But through the Spirit of holiness he was appointed to be God's Son with great power by rising from the dead. (NCV)

Appointed to be God's Son? I have a problem with that! It seems to me that they are saying he WAS NOT God's Son before he arose! Let's look at what other versions say, starting with the KJV:

Romans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: (KJV)

Romans 1:4 And Jesus Christ our Lord was shown to be the Son of God when God powerfully raised him from the dead by means of the Holy Spirit (NLT)

Romans 1:4 who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, (WEB)

Romans 1:4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. (NIV)

We can see from a wide swath of translations that the word should be translated "declared" or as the NLT (my favorite) does, "shown." None of these take away from the deity of Christ before He came into the world, something I feel the NCV does.

I don't like it.

The thing is, they write it like that so that the teen understands it better. I think a modern translation, NIV, NKJV, NASB, something like that is fine. It's better to have personal time with that teen to help them understand than to translate by subjective perspective.

I have a copy, have only opened it a few times, dont really care for the way it reads, mostly cause it seems watered down, even worse then the living bible which is not a translation but a paraphrase....

some words just do not have the power of other words even though they may seem to mean the same thing

sin......transgression......wrong doing......errors.......debts.......mistakes......

sorry......repent......remorse......pentance......

as you can see, the basic thoughts might appear to be the same, but deeply rooted, they are differant and hold a different level of power...

need to open each session in the Word with lots of prayer, so the Spirit of God can open the heart...

I've actually been using the NCV for a couple years now for my main Bible for devotionals and daily readings etc and I've found it to be quite good and easy to read, as have many people I know. It's not the only translation I use, but I know that it has helped me in many ways and God has really deeply spoke to me when I've been reading the NCV.

So...

Though I have said this in several other threads, I will mention it again. There is only one reliable English translation and that is the King James Version. All others are counterfeits, and if you will compare them verse by verse, you will find more wrong than the Genesis account of creation.

That's not true at all, thr KJV is just as flawed in some respects as any other translation. There are other good English translations out there too; the NRSV is a pretty decent one.

And really, if you want the best possible translation, learn Koine Greek (and Hebrew..) and read it as it was first written.
