The shortsightedness of people never ceases to amaze me.

Marnie, I would suspect that I am even a bigger Civil Libertarian than you are, but children unlike adults cannot chose whether or not they want to exposed to harmful substances like second hand smoke in a closed vehicle. I am completely against the Drug War, but I see nothing wrong with this law. It is really an apples to oranges comparison as this is not about individual liberty, but rather it is a children's health issue.

It's a parental issue, not my issue. You see? I am 100% opposed to the so-called war on drugs as well.

But Marnie, there is a balance that is struck here. On one hand government should not get involved in how parents choose to raise their children. For instance, the government should not have a law against spanking. However, on the otherhand, we do have laws against parents taking actions that might injure their children, so while the government should not have a law against spanking, its perfectly reasonable for the government to have a law against child abuse. The same could be said here. We know for a fact that second hand smoke is harmful. Therefore, its perfectly reasonable to enact laws that protect children from being exposed to a harmful substance that they cannot legally consent to being exposed to.

Eventually they will hit on something that does bother you, already theres talk of people who teach their children Christianity are abusing them, do you really think it will stop with smoking in the car????? The government needs to actually take care of the country as a whole and stay out of my private life and yours.

Hmmm...I wonder when someone's going to make it illegal to feed McDonald's to children?

You know the vaccines that are in many cases required by law for children contain many harmful substances. You don't see many people complaining about that, or trying to change those laws.

It's completely ridiculous that I should be required by law to wear a seatbelt in my car, when there are no helmet laws for motorcyclists in my state.

I'm not to sure what you have against seat belts. If it wasn't for a seat belts I wouldn't be here now. There protection. I know old argument about what if the car catches on fire. Please.. it is a proven fact the seat belts saves hundreds of lives. Besides if your in an accident, and are seriously injured who is going to pay your hosptial bill if you have no insurance??? You got it the taxpayers, or the uninsured motorist on your insurance policy. Here in California we are paying some of the highest in insurance rates. When people don't follow the law and get hurt because it my insurance goes up, and I'm already paying over a thousand dollars a year for car insurance and that is with two perfect records. Oh by the way in California it's a law that you must wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. Another good law.

Forrest,

There is NEVER a time when the government should be allowed to tell parents what is good and what is bad for their children, beyond the bounds of civil law, of course. Don't misquote me on that. I am not advocating perverse stuff.

I for one a fed up; FED UP, with the arrogance of the Nanny State telling people what is good for them and what is not. From shower heads, to toilet seats, to those monstrous airbags, you cannot get away from the Almighty State! I am sick to death of it and I am unforgiving of the politicians who write this kind garbage into law and of the dumb, disinterested, uninformed citizens who blindly follow these blind guides.

I having a rough day. Does it show?

This isn't about if people should smoke in their car or wear seat belts.

The issue is government interference with our lives.

I think you are missing the point.

I'm not missing the point. I don't want big government Katy, but when people are costing me hundreds more in insurace something needs to be done.

Completely apart from the affects of smoking on others...

How many parents are perfect and who decides what will be the standard?

Do we really want policy-wonks in government to define "good parenting"? :)

If you want to commit slow suicide and open yourself up to lung cancer and other smoking-associated diseases, at least don't subject other people to it. It is pretty gross that people smoke around young kids. Adults and older kids can make a choice to leave a public area where smoking is allowed or find a room in the house where no one smokes, but little kids have no choices or any way to defend themselves from it. Parents who murder their children go to prison, so it seems something serious ought to happen to those who infringe on their ability to get clean air and significantly damage their health.

I guess some people just won't realize that the issue here is not smoking.

God Bless You Everyone

amen...right there with ya

I hope they'll figure it out when the issue becomes praying to Jesus

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
