I'd like to weigh in here... neither of my kids have ADHD so I don't know what it is like. But it does bother me how much it is on the increase. Cancer is on the rise too. Are we going to say those must all be misdiagnosises too? I think it is something in the environment. I have heard time outside in as natural of an environment as possible can be beneficial to those with ADHD. Perhaps this helps to counteracts the effects of our polluted homes? It is almost impossible to keep a truly healthy home nowadays. The pesticides on lawns, even if you opt out, the neigbor still uses it. The teflon on pans, the new non stick aluminum foil, so many new convenient products coming out that make our life so much easier yet they may be doing more harm than good. And the cleaning chemicals in school, I have heard of parents whose children suffered with asthma, behaviour problems etc. more during the school year than summer time. More and more vaccines are coming out. Our first child we went ahead and vaccinated fully. He got the oral polio vaccine. Our second child we heard it had been discovered that the oral polio vaccine was too dangerous and no longer being administered. Boy was I mad to learn my son had been given a vaccine that was declared unsafe a few years later! Before we went ahead and vaccinated our second child, we decided to research every single vaccine to the fullest. Our environment is becoming more and more toxic, and cancer and ADHD are on the rise. Maybe there is a connection?

Self discipline is the answer. To be able to blame some made-up 'disease' only ENABLES us to stay undisciplined. That's why so many people today have ADD, and NO ONE EVER HAD IT BEFORE!

We are simply making excuses for slothful behavior, and lack of self discipline. And the medical establishment is making BILLIONS off this, and so acts as our enabler.

Leonard what credentials do you possess to make that medical determination? ADD is neither slotfulness, nor lack of self discipline. IT is a very real neuroligical disease that affects adults as well as kids. I do agree the diagnosis is abused. But to make a blanket statement that its a made up disease is just total ignorance on your part.

MeCajunboy. . .

Depression is a matter of the heart. It is a term that means downcast. Cain was downcast, he was not obedient to the Lord (Genesis 4:5-6).

Really? Ohh i suppose it was all a matter of the heart when i went into a suicidal depression after surgery wasn't it! What a crock. The depression that almost took my life was induced by anesthesia, and trauma to the body from havnig my chest hacked open and organs laid out on my belly.

Sheesh. lots of wannabe doctors here today.

Any suggestions on how I could cope with it? I discovered I had ADD about 2 years ago after I my sophmore year in college. I've been diagnosed now but I stopped seeing a psychiriatrist and stopped taking medication. Even if i'm on adderall...i still dont have the motivation to do things. I play games all day and dont do any of my studies or hw. I'm always behind in class.

I had ADHD as a kid and still have adult ADD. Honestly, the best way to cope with it is to multi-task. Do not work on one thing at a time. I read and watch TV at the same time. I research and listen to lectures at the same time. I am currently writing a thesis. I have to watch movies, watch Tv, etc. etc. in the background while I work.

Your brain is so starved for stimulation that it just can not concentrate if it is not being stimulated. So, multi-task and stimulate it.

Yeah your right, background noise. distractions help keep the thought processes down to a minimum so you can concentrate.

Btw, I thought I should add that when I took my son off stratera, that was not a unilateral decision on my part. The dr agreed that since the point of giving my son meds was to help him deal with distractions at school, and since I had decided to take my son out of school and homeschool him instead, it would be a good idea to give my son a break from the meds and see if the new school situation would go ok without meds. Seems to be going well so far.

I didn't see anything in Emily Anne's post that was blaming parents for ADD, or cancer, or whatever. I understood her to be saying that we as parents do things for our kids - such as vaccinate them - expecting that we are doing what is best for them. Yet further down the road, perhaps science will find that some of what we expect is good for our kids, might instead be harmful. That does not mean we parents are at fault or to blame, since we certainly weren't trying to harm our kids.

Yes, thank you! I made the point that I myself had went ahead and allowed a vaccination to be administered to our son that was later declared dangerous. I just like to get the word out there of my own mistake so I can help other parents! I certainly was not deliberately trying to harm my oldest when I allowed the nurse to administer our son the oral polio vaccine!

Brothers and sisters,

Thanks for writing. I will continue to come back to this thread for encouragement. I'm so thankful for how many people are understanding. It was a struggle for me two years ago when I realized that I had ADD. I read the testimony of other ADD people and it was exactly parrallel to my life. I couldn't believe it...I thought it was just me. It was one of the biggest revelations of my life. Prior to this I had been praying to God as to why it was so difficult for me get started on my studies and other responsibilities (this is still a problem). The Lord foreknew my life before time and all I have to do is seek first His kingdom. I know everything else will be taken care of. The limitations (ADD) I've been facing all my life I now understand is something God is using for His perfect purpose.

It's interesting that those who were disregarding ADD and claiming it wasn't legitimate never returned to defend their statements or offer an apology to those they clearly wounded with their flippant replies. Oh well. At least there was some encouragment that took place, so I'm really happy to see that. Best wishes felix!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
