Luke 10:27-28 27 He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" 28 "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."

True enough! And what does that mean to you in concrete terms? How does that translate into how you live your life?

I agree with Biblicist!! :emot-hug:

What does it mean to me?

That no matter what comes my way, I am to keep my eyes focused on Jesus depending on Him, in good times and in bad times.

How does that translate into how you live your life?

Whenever I have problems I know I can go straight to the Lord with them. I have confidence that He will always be there for me, even if I mess up because of my imperfections. I know that He is forever conforming me to His likeness on a daily basis.

Following the Lord Jesus Christ and personally accepting the glorious fact of His ONCE-FOR-ALL-TIME (Greek, Jude 1:3b) substitutionary sacrifice on Mt. Calvary implies surely the total & unabashed rejection of all unscriptural, false religious institutions which would attempt to "RE-SACRIFICE" Jesus Christ a million times over via "sacrifices" created by the magic of "transubstantiation" on church altars in direct opposition to settled truths in Hebrews Chapter ten, verses ten to fourteen. It's beyond naivete, a self-destructive fantasy if one ever existed. AMEN & AMEN!

Hey Arthur,

Can I buy you a latte?

You have made your disdain of the RCC abundantly clear many times. Yeah, I got that.

But , how do YOU live out your life as a disciple of Jesus. What does He expect of you---in concrete terms.

Thanks,

Fiosh

Let's get this out of the way from the start...Can we all agree that :

1. you can't "work your way into heaven" ?

2. there is no salvation without Jesus' sacrifice on the cross

Ok, with that established, what, if anything, does Jesus expect from you as His follower?

Shalom,

My answer is my life verse:

Micah 6:8

8 He has told you, O man, what is good;

and what does the LORD require of you

but to do justice, and to love kindness,

and to walk humbly with your God?

Believe , Perform the Lords will , and lay down your life from self. When my time has ended on Earth it will be when the Lord has decided I have helped enough of my fellow man, when I'm done I'm gone man.I 'll see you all at the river of life to raise a cup.

Peace out

For me I guess I tend to keep it quite simple.."Be where I am, while I am there."

As I live my life 'in Christ' I give glory to God for those moments when I realize to follow Him is to simply be awake to that which is right before me.

For example right now I am typing in a thread to Glorify God, I pray that is what I actually do through Him, I type, and move on to the next thing that is in front of me. sometimes its prayer, sometimes its service, sometimes its self evaluation to the core of my sin, sometimes its just be still and Know God.

:)

You are quite correct in that we do not "Work our way into heaven", but there are certain works that Jesus does expect from us as believers. We know that by the way of the book of James that faith with out works is dead. Meaning that we just can't go around saying we believe in Jesus. It takes more than that. Some have already given examples -

Matthew 16:24-27 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

There are two lives that I can choose to live on this earth - a carnal one where I live after my flesh or a spiritual where I deny my flesh to live by Christ's commandments.

The works that we do are the works of the putting away the things of the flesh and of the things that we deny ourselves so that we can do the things in which God commands of us.

Ephesians 4:21-32 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

This is also part of the will of God and Christ that also change our inner man and to quit sinning. When we change our inner man we will sin less because our hearts change to do that which Christ requires of us more than wanting to fulfill the lusts of the flesh which is sin.

What Christ requires of us is faith, love, and obedience to his words which is what makes up the New Testament.

Luke 10:25-28 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

Let's define this a little more. What does it mean to love my neighbor and myself?

Romans 13:8-10 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

We also know that if we say that we love God we will keep his commandments -

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Remember what was said above in that in order to inherit eternal live we must love our God with all our hearts and our neighbors as ourselves. We also see that we carry these out by obeying the commandments set before us.

So we can see that along with faith and love for our God that we are also required to live our lives according to the commandments and law set before us.

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

We see even by this scripture that it takes more than faith to enter into heaven. We must also do the will of God to enter into heaven and God's will is that deny ourselves of our lusts on this earth and walk after the commandments Christ brought to us.

Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was just the beginning of Christianity. He opened the door and it is up to us to walk through it. Christ offered his life to save the world of their sins, but it is up to me to live the life as a Christian should.

Very well said! :24:

That's an easy one for me, at least!

By following Jesus, means to "be like HIM" by not repeating my sins (cross) and the like! Now, this is not an easy thing to accomplish for great lengths of time, unless you are close in your relationship with God and constantly in check with HIM. I find by giving routine thanks and praise throughout the day, helps me to stay under his shelter of protection from the daily secular misfortunes in life......Another words, to imagine everything satan despises and rejects, is what I try to anticipate and do the opposite! TO BE LIKE CHRIST!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
