Is God Male?

Some recent threads inspired me this morning to pose the question, "Is God male?" Please answer the poll and include a reply to the thread. In your reply begin with how you answered, then explain in as many words as you want why you answered that way, and use Scripture to support of your answer. I think, in a way, He is above gender as WE know it...but He refers to Himself as masculine through use of terms like "Father," so I'll stick to doing that.

God is neither male nor female. He is God. He has no specific gender, but He likens Himself to a father, mostly. However, there is a reference to Him as a mother hen who longs to gather His Israel to Him with "her" wings.

I say God is male. He is my heavenly Father. He made man in His image. Lots of scripture referre to Him as male. I don't know if that is just for our little brains to comprehend or if He is male gendered. The bible also says He is Spirit and Truth. Jesus was male. The male is the spiritual head of the household. So I think God is male.

I would have to say that he is male, yet I do think he is above gender, in marriage, it's a representation of Jesus' love for the Church, and Gods love for us, he is the provider, we submit to him. He likens himself to male.

Now, Jesus was a male, and Jesus was God aswell. Jesus is the exact reproduction of God, Given flesh.

I'm going to interject something here for a moment.

In human terms we think of male/female largely in the context of physical makeup. I would suggest that "gender" has less to do with body parts than it does to relationships and the roles within those relationships.

So....If God is not a male how is it that He marries a woman - the Bride of Christ - at the end of the Bible?

Do you believe that God has a reason for everything that He does?
