Apparently it was a split off from the Baptist church over the observance of Sabbath on Sunday instead of Sunday.

I wonder if it matters that much to God to separate His people by such a thing?

nah....I doubt God gets very upset about people who go to church on Sunday

Shalom Yod!

Amen!!

Vickilynn,

I did a lot of studying up on them when I left the SDA church. They were a little too pharisee like to me, so sure they are right and everone else is wrong, too much like the SDA's , but I'm sure each one is different. I ended up in a Bapticostal church. :whistling:

I doubt if God gets upset with people worshipping on Sat......

personally, i think He would like to have more people like my grandmother, who went and worshipped everyday...... yep.... thats right, she went to church 7 days a week......

Worship does not have to be contained to a building either, or a peticular building at that.....

we should all worship every day...

mike

Shalom,

While that would be nice, I don't think it is logistially possible to gather together at church every day. However, since church is not the only way of worshipping, we can worship every day.

But, gathering is not the only function of the Sabbath.

My grandmother went to church every day too. Like the early church. Acts 2:42-47 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

I think they are okay.

At one time they were considered a cult, but most people today do not look at them that way. They do however do some things which many people have a hard time with. They follow the Jewish dietary restrictions, in addition to Sabbath observance. For example they do not eat pork or shellfish, most are vegetarians and are really into health. Obviously they don't drink and smoking is considered a sin also. They run Loma Linda in California. They are really into prophesy and some times get sidetracked into the writings of their founder and prophetess called Ellen White. They have distanced themselves from some of her writings, but I find her relatively off base she predicted specific dates for the Return of Christ etc. The ones I know are almost obsessed with their dislike of the Catholic Church, almost always seeing the Catholic Church as ushering in the anti-Christ etc and involved in a series of world wide conspiracies throughout history.

Anyway that is what I know, I am sure many here can add to it. I also think there are some SDA's on the board hopefully they will respond. I consider them brothers and sisters in Christ even though I do disagree with some of the doctrine.

Shalom Smalcald,

Thank you so much for your reply, but you are talking about Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) not Seventh Day Baptists (SDB). They are not the same entity. Thanks though for your reply, I sure appreciate it.

Do you know anything about the Seventh Day Baptists?

I was wondering what you meant when you said Seventh Day Baptist. I was sure it was SDA. My friend and her husband just joined them and yes they are a cult.

Shalom Rusty,

No, Seventh-day baptists are not Seventh-Day Adventists, they are two different denominations with very different beliefs. The one thing they have in common is that they both honor the Sabbath as the Bible prescribes.

Seventh-day Baptists are baptists that meet on the Sabbath (Friday evening).

Here's some info on SDB:

I'm sorry to hear that you had that kind of experience at an SDA church. I guess I was lucky to have pastors who chewed us out!

Another poster wrote: I was sure it was SDA. My friend and her husband just joined them and yes they are a cult.

SDA's are not a cult; see Walter Martin's book The Kingdom of the Cults. He's the only outsider who spent considerable time studying what we believ and why we believe it.

It was a Seventh-day Baptist who taught the SDA's about the Sabbath.

Shalom Biblicist,

I took some time to respond to your post for it could be read on several different layers and mean different things.

First, I guess you mean that honoring the Sabbath as "such a thing" and that you don't see that as an important issue.

Secondly, you seem to think that people holding convictions about their Biblical beliefs is a bad thing.

Thirdly, you seem to be saying that because a group of people wish to stand upon their Biblical beliefs and others have different beliefs and wish to have the freedom to do the same, that this somehow "separates" the Body of Messiah.

Personally, I disagree with all three

1) I believe observing the Sabbath is an important issue and one that is too often forsaken.

2) I believe that when the L-rd convicts you of something and tells you to do it, you'd better do it, whether anyone else agrees or not! As long as the Bible supports it.

3) If there are groups of people that have the same conviction about the Sabbath and wish to gather together and there are groups of people who don't share that conviction and don't wish to join in, they are STILL part of the same Body, just wearing different shoes. No harm, no foul.

Happy Sabbath, Vickilynn!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
