If we have received salvation, how do we know that we have received the indwelling Holy Spirit?

Very simple as scripture has already been posted to verify this, and Thy Word is TruthJohn:17'17

There are always supernatural manifestations which accompany the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. There are no exceptions to this. That's how these disciples would have known if they had been baptized with the Holy Spirit---because they would have experienced some supernatural manifestations. Notice that when Paul laid hands on them and they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, they immediately began speaking in tongues and prophesying. At that point they knew that they had been baptized with the Holy Spirit! Notice that this happened after they had received salvation.

And where may these supernatural manisfestations that accompany the baptism of the Holy Spirit be?? I don't see any such words. However, the Book of Acts is an account of the Acts of the original apostles and disciples, the the gift of tongues was given to spread the Gospel of Christ throughout the area in other languanges, which is what tongues is, in this case.

Tongues cannot and is not the initial evidence of the Holy Spirit, because it is not a sign of believers, but to unbelievers

as Paul specificly writes in 1 Corinthians 14:22!

They immediately began speaking in tongues and prophesying. At that point they knew that they had been baptized with the Holy Spirit! Notice that this happened after they had received salvation

For those who teach this, all I have to say is what Paul said. 1 Corinth. 14:22

Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not. So, you see, as scripture records, tongues is not a sign of being baptized in the Holy Spirit!!

Also, take careful note of 1 Corinthians 12:27-30 where the apostle Paul asks rhetorical questions. He asks, 'are all apostles?' No is the obvious answer. 'Are all prophets?' No. 'Are all teachers?' No. 'Are all workers of miracles?' No. 'Do all have the gifts of healing?' No. 'Do all speak with tongues?' NO! This means that not all believers speak in tongues.

Again, tongues could not be a sign of the receipt of the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit is given to everyone who sincerely repents and is born again, but not everyone has the gift of tongues. So this one text alone rebukes the teaching that it is a sign of the receipt of the"baptism of the Holy Spirit."

The first recorded instance where tongues were spoken is in Acts 2. Here, the term 'tongues' means "a known language". Tongues here is not unknown tongues, or ecstatic speech, because everybody understood what was being said in their own language as Acts 2:6-11 clearly points out. This was a sign to the unbelievers; that God accepted these nations

Even Paul himself received the baptism of the Holy Spirit AFTER his conversion.

Another example of susequent Holy Spirit baptism...

At the House of Cornelius the Gentile (Acts 10:44-45)

In Acts 10:44-45, God poured out His Spirit upon Gentiles for the very first time:

"While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers [Jews] who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, "Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have." So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ." (Acts 10:44-48)

This story is repeated in Acts 11:15-17:

"As I [Peter] began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?" (Acts 11:15-17)

When the Holy Spirit came on the Gentiles at the house of Cornelius, the apostle Peter referred to it as the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Peter said that it was the same event which had happened to the disciples in the beginning at Pentecost.

Notice the terms that are used here to describe the baptism of the Holy Spirit:

o "the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message"

o "the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles"

o "They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have"

o "the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning"

o "God gave them the same gift as he gave us"

Consider that the Apostles received the Holy Spirit at least twice. In John 20 and against at Pentecost.

What do you guys make of that?

John 20: 19-20

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you."

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you."

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the holy Spirit. "

Peace,

Fiosh

PS. (I'm trying to read thru the thread and catch up. Thought I'd have the house to myself tonite, but the races got rained out and the family was here)

It is difficult to deny experience.

Shalom Ruth,

Our experience must be weighed in the light of the Scriptures. We can never exalt our experience above what the Scriptures say. Experiences can vary and we can be deceived by experiences (I"m not saying YOU are deceived!) and so we must use the Scriptures as the truth, not our experiences.

I believe the Holy Spirit is given to us in His fullness when we are saved. I believe the Word says we are filled, baptized and indwelt by the Holy Spirit when we are born-again. But that does not mean we acknowledge Him or allow Him access to work in us. I believe those who have a later experience are in fact, submitting themselves to the power of the Holy Spirit who already indwells them. And as we mature and give more and more of ourselves over to G-d, He changes us. Only when we submit does He do the work in us. The Holy Spirit will never "take over" our bodies or anything else unless we submit to Him.

Where does it say in the Word of God that we are baptized in the Holy Spirit at conversion? Precisely?

Did you speak in tongues at your conversion? What was the evidence for you?

Tongues is certainly a sgn of the presence, baptism of the Holy Spirit. You misunderstand the Scriptures. Its use is for a sign to unbelievers, but its appearance in the life of a Christian is an evidence!

You err by teaching otherwise. Understanding is faulty here in many of you.

Evidence? You do realize that demons can imitate and are very good at deception. How do you determine whether or not the tounges are from the HS or a demon! what proof is there if no one understands the tounges spoken.

Shalom FA,

If you'll read the numerous Scriptures in both this thread and the other one of the same topic, you will see the Scriptures say plainly that the Holy Spirit indwells us (baptizes us) when we are born-again. That is undeniable.

My experience is not relevant. As I said, experiences must be evaluated by the Scriptures.

G-d's Word is the authority, not someone's "experience", for is subjective and subject to our flesh. G-d's Word is not.

There has been scripture already posted in this thread and that has already been addressed.

Tongues is not a sign of having the Holy Spirit, and that has already been addressed.

Shalom Toni,

Exactly. Thank you! ;)

I have yet to read that the Holy Spirit baptizes us at the exact moment of conversion. It's not there.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
