For truly born-again Christians I believe hearing from/communicating with God should be a normal situation. I also believe hearing from sources other than from God may be common amongst born-again Christians as well as all others. That one may not even be aware of this communication {e.g. "now why does that stupid song keep going thru my head?" or "why would I ever think something so awful?" or or or}. Of course one may think one is communicating/hearing from God when one is not. At least not "the God".

I use the words "hearing""communicating" in the above paragraph to include [but not necessarily limited to] an audible voice, a telepathic communication, a dream, a vision. The difficulty [to put it mildly] is how to KNOW one is communicating with either God directly or a source from God. Have a lot to offer on this subject if anyone is truly interested. It is a deadly serious topic. Deadly.

Deadly? Well, consider who might be behind calling "hearing voices" a disease/schizophrenia when the voice is The Holy Spirit? Calling in essence, then, The Holy Spirit a disease and, to me, committing the unpardonable sin for which there is no forgiveness in this age nor the one to come. However, the "voices" may be simply demonic sources trying to use the horrible fear of committing the unpardonable sin to keep one in bondage.

I have had both 1 and 2 way communication with 1John 4:2 as well as 1John 4:3 spirits.

Many things too horrible to ever share with anyone happened to me in an 18 month "Good vs Evil" full-time study I was put in back in 1991-1992. From personal experience the devil has hate and power that is indescribable.

That tiny bit said. Are all aware that Andrea Yates was told by God/told by Satan to drown her 5 children? That Kip Kinkel, being interviewed after shooting to death his parents and some high-school classmates screamed out:

"G------ these voices in my head!" His psychiatrist, a medical doctor, and a "Good Morning America" host were discussing his case on a GMA show several years back. As one of the symptoms of the spiritual war we are in, there was zero discussion of demonic oppression/possession. Zero.

I would be very interested to hear what you have to say when it comes to discerning whether a message or sign is from the Lord for our edification, or Satan in an attempt to deceive. I believe that there are many who struggle with this issue, and desire to know the true source of what they "sense".

There are many times when one may be going through hard times, feel they are under attack or have been abondoned, when the reason could be that God is doing this to refine, chasten or bring to repentance, whilst there are other times when things may seem to be going well or that there is an impression of being guided into a course of action, when it is the Devil seducing us away from God, and into sin.

You are correct that it is a subject with deadly consequences, and am sure that many would appreciate further discussion on this topic.

As for one who was raised an atheist, I can tell you I heard the promptings and obeyed the devious plans of demons most of my life.

In 1995 I became a strung out meth addict. I heard voices all the time and seen demonic manifestations every day (Stephen King cannot get close to what I was LIVING) I was so desperate to find the truth of what I was seeing and hearing..

I would tell my druggie friends, "when I find the truth to what is happening I will come and tell you". No one seemed to know the truth. My boyfriends Mom was the only Christian I knew. I convinced him to ask her if she knew anything about what we were seeing and hearing. He came back with a "no". I figured that even god didn't know what I was going through.

I was hopeless and suicidal. I overdosed many times and was always disappointed that I had woke up. I was driven to seclusion and I was at the place that I was dangerous not only to myself but to others. the voices had me paranoid and I was carrying weapons and the people that were targets I know now were innocent people whom the devil also wanted to destroy.

When I was at the worst in my addiction I cried out to God to save me. I didn't think He heard me. He delivered me to jail in Dec '97 and by May of '98 I was new creation in Christ. Denoms had been cast out (really) and Jesus had become my Lord..

Yes, I know the voices.

i find the use of the word "telepathic" as a reference to communicating with God to be quite disturbing. however, i agree that communicating with God, talking to Him and hearing from Him, should be a part of our daily life.

Read "How to Hear from God in a Nosiy World" that really helped me. A couple of things from her book - one was to pray and ask the Lord what the next traffic light would be. I just refused for weeks to ask the Lord such a trival question but I had missed the point. This was a way of establishing hearing and checking accuracy with no consequences besides the purpose. Also, she said that there was a period of time when the Lord would tell her something to do such as go to the basement and when she would get there - that would be it. But later, as you referred to, listening and obeying saved her from deadly consequences.

Thank you all who replied-have printed off hard-copy of this chain {like I do often} and rereading it/meditating on it.

How does one discuss this focusing on Jesus and NOT the "plague of self"/Satan/devil/demons? "Evil:An Investigation"-argument that w/o Satan/Evil life empty {e.g. Satan as rock-star}.

Was totally enlightened back some 20 or so years ago on "humour" and how the enemy uses this as a weapon; source for a lot of "humour'/literature simply from spirits of antichrist.

Couple of things:

* Have been asking for over the past 15 years various people who either claim to be prophets or claimed to receive information from God. Never found ONE who obeyed 1John 4:1-NEVER. When I pointed out 1John 4:1-6 to a member of a church I attended years ago after service [member would often stand and say "Thus saith the Lord and give a message] member was not even aware and showed no interest.

* More topical-wrote to a worldwide famous Pentecostal ministry a few years ago and asked specifically if the person claiming spiritual communication {with either Jesus or The Holy Spirit} obeyed 1John 4:1-6? Answer was not yes. "perilous times" indeed.

This is a piece of a "prophecy" online right now [will not give the source of this to avoid us going off into Christian bashing/doing Satan's work/into areas that really-in my mind-are basically close to if not actually unbearable]. I had started listening very closely to our evangelical President George Bush and using a Holy-Bible filter [he did say he had asked for wisdom from a Higher Father]; things did not line up as far as I was/am concerned:

Was startled, to say the least, when I was taught that The LORD God Himself COMMANDS us {1 John 4:1-6} to test Him to see if it is Him.

I have given one true prophecy as well as one false prophecy. Was very convicted with the false prophecy and repented within the hour [oh, Thank You Heavenly Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ:Ephesians 5:20].

What happened to me in the "Good vs Evil" fulltime study I was put in {approx 1st 5 months mostly natural, Holy Bible intense study then last 13 both 100% Supernatural and maybe 50% natural. Yes-correct. Total more than 100%} was Impossible. The Scriptures [all of them from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21] failed. Reality was gone. Before this study people told me I was way too fundamental, too much Holy Bible. When the Supernatural started was like a freight train coming right at me. The devil hurt me in ways that is past describing/sharing.

The impossible was explained to me via 1John 4:2 a year or so later. A part of a verse in 1 John that I cannot point out, because the total ramifications are unbearable but touches on your question. A 1John 4:3 spirit threatened me 5 years or so ago and I have been under 24/7 demonic attack since then. Vile and unbearable but must be borne. He keeps "me" going.I also have received supernatural punishment more than once for disobedience. The Holy Spirit is The Teacher. I am a pupil of The/our/my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, The Son of The only True God The Father.

Thought I was a believer, but learned what belief really meant--consider carefully all of Hebrews 5. Heart of Gospel to me:Christ Jesus and Him Crucified for the sins of the world/kosmos/Universe. After dying multiple billions of times on the Cross and taking the wrath of God The Father for every sin of every sinnable creature past-present-future[time till End of This Age], He descended into Hell. "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?".
