Yeah, I've read his book. The problem is we have a two party system in America, and a candidate who is outside of the mainstream of either of those parties generally does more harm than good, his platform notwithstanding. And Koenig's is very good, I admit.

I'm interested to know what people here think of Ron Paul.

I like Ron Paul a lot. He is the truth teller of the GOP. The only one up there with true conviction that has always with out exception lived by them. In my opinion, either one is a true Libertarian like Ron Paul and they don't believe in government and they actually get rid of it, or one is a progressive that believes in good government, and they try to run it as competently and pragmatically as possible. The problem with "conservatives" is they don't believe in government, but they seem to grow it anyway, and instead of doing away with areas of government they don't believe in, they just put incompetent people in to run them (Like a horse judge to run FEMA). Basically, either we do as the true libertarians want, and do away with government (social liberalism, fiscal conservatism), or we do as the progressives want, and try to make government as a positive force in society.

I actually like the libertarian position a lot, the only problem with it in my opinion is that it does not in anyway adequately address conservation and environmental protection. See: "The Tragedy of the Commons" for an explanation why. http://www.garretthardinsociety.org/articl...he_commons.html

Oh I think as it stands right now, the Democrats without a doubt have a better field of candidates than the Republicans, and I certainly would not have said the same thing in the last 2 elections. Unless something really changes between now and November 08, you had better just get used to having the Dems running congress and the Whitehouse, because right now it certainly looks like the pendulum is swinging to the left.
