Sorry to have to say this and I'm not taking sides....but I don't recall tsth ever stating that she doesn't sin. She is quoting what John said in his epistle. The truth is the truth. Like it or not. No one can dress up the truth to suit their own beliefs.

She refuses to say she is a sinner. She is hiding behind her selected verses to avoid doing so. She has a programmed argument. Like I said in the other thread, this is a new and dangerous way that sinners have invented in order to avoid confessing what they really are. This new age idea that Paul was not really saying he was a sinner in the current tense would be laughable if it weren't such a serious issue with such serious consequences.

No but she implied it with all of her rhetoric, those verses are what they are and nobody is saying they are not the truth. But she is using them as a weapon against other believers and by the very fact that those of us who say we still sin, are somehow not living up to them, and refusing to answer the questions about her own life, implies that she somehow is. Which would also make scripture false since it plainly states that "all sin and fall short of the glory of God"

I agree with sw, this is a false teaching and and has not "love" in it for others, and is used to put oneself on a pedestal and look down on others.

But none of the passages you posted indicate Christians are not still practical sinners. The Apostle called himself the chief of sinners and lamented he did not do what he should and did what he should not. Of course the Spirit helps us in our fight with sin but our sinful nature is still with us and as Luther wisely noted we are simultaneously saint and sinner even as we are counted righteous for Christ's sake. The justified homosexual is not justified because he no longer sins. He is counted just only by faith in Christ. He struggles with that sin and many other ones too. Like I said, if a believer does not believe he is a sinner he likely is not a believer. I believe it was church father Jerome who said we are never more righteous than when we confess our sins. The confessing repentant tax collector went away justified, not the Pharisee who saw himself as better than others.

tsth:

Paul was not speaking in the past tense. He was not speaking of himself pre-conversion. There is no way you can force that from the text. I've heard that spin on it before, and it does not bear up under scrutiny. All of us, as Christians, are being regenerated, through the redemptive power of Christ, and the conviction of the Holy Spirit. It is called progressive sanctification, and it does not happen overnight. We will sin until the day we die. We are approved, and seen as righteous in God's eyes through Christ's sacrifice for our sins, but we still sin. There is a big difference between struggling with something and sinning willfully and habitually.

1 John 1:8-9 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

I don't take this to mean we are suddenly without sin. It means we are going to sin, and that we must confess it and work to cure it, with Christ's help. We can't do it on our own. Someone who is sinning regularly with no conviction about it has a problem. How can anyone believe they are just going to suddenly "stop" sinning? People struggle with homosexuality just as other people struggle with alcohol, drugs, smoking, [insert your own here]. It's a daily battle. That's what Paul is saying, not that the battle was suddenly over once he came to know Jesus.

Thank you eric. You are correct I DID NOT say that I don't sin. I also clarified that this thread was distinguishing between those who claim to be Christian and still hold firmly to a "sin lifestyle", as my reference to the other thread.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, Who Is my Lord and Savior, I adhere to the doctrine of His Word.....and I believe that as a born-again believer, there is NO WAY that I can actively live my previous life. I am a New Creation, and believe me, the difference between my old life, and my new life in Christ Jesus, is strikingly different. There is NO QUESTION about the power of HIS WORK, HIS WORD, to SAVE a believer and equip them to walk in a NEW WAY! I am no longer a slave to sin, for I have been bought with a price, and that price was blood, His Precious and POWERFUL Blood. He makes all things new!

Romans 8:8 Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. 9 [b]You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. 14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. 15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 16 Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 18 You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

HERE IS THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD

(for those of you who have twisted it into a matter of sinlessness, rather than the glory of God's Word)

Do you have personal Christian Friends who are Gay?

The above thread, truly troubled me.

How can that be so? It is an abomination to God, right? So, can you be practicing homosexuality AND naming the name of Christ too?

2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

In His Love,

Suzanne

So Scarlet,

Do you believe that a person naming the name of Christ must turn from iniquity? CAN a sexually active gay person be a Christian? How about a married person engaged in adultery? Or one who habitually lies? steals?

In His Love,

Suzanne

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
