I know that some people here don't have the highest opinion of planned parenthood. A friend of mine works with them, and is willing to field questions about misconceptions about the organization (Planned Parenthood).

For example, what do you do, prioirities concerning adoption vs abortion, general policy on conception, etc. He will be here all day.

Hi I wanted to ask a few questions. If I went to planned parenthood today and I told them I was pregnant by a rapist and wanted to keep the child what would be the response?

I know what it was years ago.

Second I know Planned parenhood is a lot more today than they use to be. but I would like to know if before handing out preventive measures or placeing iud, are people well aware of adverse reactions,

Are they also informed on abortion services?

Are they shown any pictures of a woman going through a abortion or sonagrams of in utero, sorry about the spelling, fetuses to encourage them to stay on birth control.

With all the availability of birth control there are woman have multiple abortions, even over the amount they should. (going to different places and lying) using abortion as birth control...is this ignorance. Just want your opinion on the matter.

I am grateful to planned parenthood for I had recieved excellent prenatal care until my insurance kicked in as well as free mammograms, pap smears and so on ...So your services have been great. I am from upstate new york. Are there any christian affiliations with planned parenthood yet? thanks

i don't personally have any questions. to be honest, i suspect that PP gives more extensive training in how to field any questions that they don't like than anything else. (nothing against your friend, just against the organization.) i have no misconceptions. i know all i need to know. but i am kinda curious if your friend intends to respond to patricia's questions today, since i don't see you on the thread...

Quick note to LadyC, don't let that stop you from asking questions. Just honest people, asking honest questions, getting honest responses.

Hi I wanted to ask a few questions. If I went to planned parenthood today and I told them I was pregnant by a rapist and wanted to keep the child what would be the response?

I know what it was years ago.

Reponse: "We don't advocate abortion (at least with this chapter that I am with and I know that this can vary from area to area) first we would want to know whether or not you could safely carry a child, could raise it in a loving and caring environment. Rape is an odd thing in and of itself. the nature of the act being a vile, violent thing has little to do with sex and much more about control. Some victims of rape have raise the children that were created from the act and they turned out to be fine, however it is also important to consider what the environment the child will be raised in after such a traumatic event. If the victim was a wife or in a relationship with someone other than the father he might not stick around (to put it in slight). Some people cannot even look at a victim in the eye after such an event takes place. If the victim has a family and there is concern that the child could be a major disruptance to the family life then as many people reading may fear or anticipate termination may be considered an option. Otherwise it depends on the mental situation of the mother or woman bareing the child. adoption is mostly a good option in such a case (if a family is present as in a previously mentioned example but is willing to care for a child that is not his, or is willing to care for the mother untill birth then I would not see adoption as being a bad option at all, if anything it would be the preferable solution.)

Alternatively there are counselling options for survivors of rape which we give to educate potential mothers about options regardding the life in question."

Second I know Planned parenhood is a lot more today than they use to be. but I would like to know if before handing out preventive measures or placeing iud, are people well aware of adverse reactions,

Are they also informed on abortion services?

Response: "Yes we do inform people about potential concerns about this such as medical complications and mental health concerns (hormonal changes can cause some signs of depression) regarding preventitive measures. We do inform people about abortion as an option but not as a form of birth control. Safe sex is a priority with us and we would rather people did not get into a situation where abortion would be considered at all. There is a bizarre duality about sex now among youth, especially high school students. Teaching abstenance is a hard thing to do, mostly that means not talking about sex at all. I have heard concerns raise that some young people, not knowing how things (STIs or STDs, Viral infections) are spread from person to person. People have started to use "alternative encounters" thinking they have removed themselves from any risk.

So I guess to answer your question, yes, we have grown a bit. Yes we do give information on preventative measures (this being the hopeful alternative) and on abortion. at the same time we do teach safe sex practice to help prevent the spread of disease and prevent unwanted pregnancy."

Response: "As I mentioned earlier the variation from area to area and the practices of each can change. As for whether people are shown the images in question (No problem with the spelling, mine is pretty bad too {Note from Ember: I edited it for you guys, don't worry.}) I would hope so. We do here, I would hope its the same else where. If not I would hope it is coming soon. It is ignorant to use abortion as a form of birth control I find that most of the concern I have has laid on the health of the mother first. It is an unsafe practice to have the procedure done repeatedly. I am a volunteer and not a doctor so I can only say what I have been told. Prevention would be a much better solution. First we need to educate people on the accessability of birth control. It is ignorance, but to no-ones fault. (it has only just occured to me I have repeatedly used the terms "problem" and "solution" on this topic. I hope this does not become misconstrued or misinterperated as any unwed birth is a problem.)"

Response: "I am not from the new york area so I do not know about any. I will look into it and if I find anything I will post it here. I know of one where I am and would hope there are more. We are only here to help, after all. Thank you for your questions and your time."

it's only hard to do if you leave God's plan out of the equation. abstinance education does not mean not talking about sex at all. that's absurd.

it appears that your answers can only reflect your particular office, and not about the broader picture of what planned parenthood endorses or even encourages. so in that light, your answers really don't satisfy any questions that might be asked about the organization itself.

for the record, a girl who has been raped is going to be emotionally unstable. period. you can not use that to base an educated opinion as to the environment the child will be raised with. ever see the movie "north country"? i highly recommend it. i won't spoil it for anyone who might rush out to rent it now, but there is a very moving scene that deals with exactly this issue, of how a teenager feels when she turns up pregnant by rape, and how her feelings towards the baby CHANGE during the course of the pregnancy. please go rent it. the movie is a true story. and in my opinion, if any pp employee uses that as a basis to encourage a teenager to abort, they have encouraged murder for profit.

i'll tell you what i hate most about PP. i hate that they perform abortions without parental consent. it's a surgical procedure, and most teens have no clue about their medical history that might pose a potential threat to their life. secondly, i hate that PP in general assumes that a teen's welfare might be in danger just because the teen is afraid to tell their parents she's knocked up. OF COURSE the kid will be scared. but the odds of them being 'beaten' because of it are miniscule.

i've told you what i think, my opinion won't change. i hate everything PP stands for. there are christian crisis centers all across the country that can assist a girl make a decision that won't destroy lives in the process. i won't waste anyone's time asking questions because the answers will never line up with God's will.

actually, i DO have one question...

are you encouraged (or for that matter, even ALLOWED) to talk about the biblical perspective of sex with your clients?

Response: "First off, in regards to your comments on rape victims and their options, I would have to agree with the fact that there is going to be an emotional disturbance, however, I am going to trust feedback from victims more so than a movie (not an attack, only defence) and to answer your question, yes, if some one who comes to me I can in fact tell them about christian organizations available (as mentioned in my last answer I am aware of one which we do send people to.)

(For my curiousity only: I've never seen North Country. Really that good? Might like to watch it, expand my horizons.)

Teaching abstinence is difficult, not impossible. It is a good option. Personally I have a lot of respect for those who save themselves for marriage or go celibate altogether. I do think that it has been complicated by the media and by peer pressure in youth today. The average age that young people lose their virginity today is around 15 years old.{Note from Ember: And since there was that recent study that proved that kids who recieve abstinence lose their virginity at the same age, I think it would be best they be taught about safe sex practices rather than nothing.} Personally I think this is too young, but if we can not stop them (through God's will, education, etc.) we can at least prevent pregnancy or help address conflicts which may arise.

Thank you for the question, I would hope that you might consider changing your outlook on us, but I believe that although your opinions do not align with my own they are yours to have."

I would like to ask, (if you are a Christian), are you completely at ease and morally at ease, with the website that PP offers teens? I really would like to post the link for other viewers here to see, but at the risk of a teen visiting it, I will not. (Needless to say, as a Christian, I am appalled by it.)

In His Love,

Suzanne

How about the "Jim Dandy and His Very Gay Day" video? It very aggressively promotes the homosexual agenda, and compares it to "being left-handed". This is on PP's teen site!

There is no mistake, PP is promoting an agenda that parents need to be very aware of.

In His Truth,

Suzanne

the movie north country is a true story, and really is that good... but is also somewhat disturbing. the scene i mentioned is only a brief scene in the movie. the story is actually about the woman who got sexual harassment laws on the books.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
