Help! Somebody offer me a glimmer of hope. Over the weekend I was climbing a tree and got into some poison oak. I have since broken out in this rash all over me, even parts of me not exposed to it, like the tops of me feet. I've been using Caladryl and I think it's helping, but this morning I got up and noticed a couple of new bumps! My question, how long does this take to work its way through your system???? I'm tired of looking like a leper.

Any home grown cures out there? I've googled this and it seems like it could take up to three weeks to clear up! Oy vey! Can anybody help a sister out here???

Some years back I got into a situation just like yours. When the small blisters weep you spread it to different parts of your body. I used caladryl to help prevent the spread, but wiped all affected areas with rubbing alcohol to help dry them out.

I was troubled with the stuff for about 3 weeks.

Frequant cool showers help. Don't scratch. Go see your doctor.

Marnie, if its gotten into your blood stream, it can break out ANYWHERE, trust me.......I KNOW. Go to your doctor and they can give you an oral medication to help..............good luck!

When I lived in Louisiana we had poison ivy, oak, and sumac!

There was a soap you could buy at almost any drug store that would help break up and remove the oils that cause the rash and itching. Been too many years to remember what the stuff was called though, but it worked very well. If memory serves, you should be able to ask a pharmacist about it. It didn't require a prescription, either.

Hope you feel better soon.

Ghosty has a good link. Bleach works for poison ivy. Never had poison oak.

Can we go back to the part where you were climbing a tree :)

It was a plot hatched by Mike and Mikey's aide, Nikki. It all started like this...

"Ten dollars says Marnie can't climb up to that crooked branch," Nikki said, pointing way up to the top of a sprawling, mighty oak tree.

To which Mike, my beloved, responded, "You're on."

When I scrambled up to the crooked branch in mere seconds, she yelled up, "Hey, would you throw down Mikey's frisbee, while you're up there? It's stuck about three feet out from where you're at."

The rest, as they say, is history. Even as stetched out to grab that darn frisbee, I just knew I had made a terrible mistake.

I can say with some certainty that I am the envy of all the neighborhood kids today. It was pretty easy on the way up, not too easy coming down, though.

I didn't think they had either poison ivy or poison oak in Nevada! Where were you climbing this tree?

Calamine lotion!
