Ghosts

Recommended Posts

well i'll be the voice of dissent. i believe there IS such a thing as ghosts. whether or not it is what we commonly think of as ghosts is another story.

but bottom line is, scripture forbids us from communicating with the dead. if it's not possible, why would God forbid it? and saul had a medium call up the ghost of samuel. in that passage there is no mistaking that it is absolutely the ghost of samuel, not a demon impersonating samuel.

so yes, i believe in such a thing as ghosts. they are as biblical as demons are, but are not the same thing.

We have a member here who is a "ghosthunter" and that got me wondering...

How many here believe in ghosts? What do you think ghosts are?

IMO, ghosts are nothing but demons impersonating the dead...

Thoughts?

Agreed Kari,

Evil spirits, ghosts, demons, whatever you want to call them...all they want to do is bring fear into your life, and that is definately not God.

They also want to give false hope and comfort. Ever hear of John Edwards the psychic?

Kari, I agree. I do think there are supernatural happenings and such, but the source is not what many think it to be.

I have been reading through this thread for several days and I have been almost afraid to ask questions But, I must because I don't get it.

This whole issue hurts my already confused head.

How is everyone so positive that there aren't ghosts? What are the mediums seeing??? Didn't a medium call up Samuel? And, if it was Samuel then it can't all be ghosts...

************************** seriously confused *********************************************

Speaking from my own experieces [some that are shared in a couple of the above threads], all of the "ghosts" I or my family have seen have been of demonic nature because their true identity was revealed. My family has also witnessed demons mimicing the living in 'ghostly' form. Satan is the father of deception, seeking to distract/lure us away from God. What are the mediums seeing? Good question....

The spirit world is a lot like the internet, you never really know who is at the other end....

A young girl might post a risque picture of herself hoping some modeling agency will 'discover' her, meanwhile predators are lurking and waiting posing as peers or as modeling agents trying to lure her into danger....

That is how satan works. While the intent may be to ask recently deceased ol' aunt Edna, where she placed the insurance policy, the one who answers the call is predatory, waiting to lure the unexpecting into a false belief system where the glory to God is removed.

The Lord advises against it because He loves us, wanting us to seek Him first above all and desires to protect us from danger.

Very interesting. Several years ago I had become interested in ghosts. This was before a mentor of mine steered me onto Christianity after I had related my experience. At the time I knew nothing of EVP, (Electronic Voice Phenomena), altho I had accidently recorded one. This was at a church I used to work at, and, incidently, this was before I got "back into" my Christian faith, tho I had never really taken more than the 1st. step, (praying the sinner's prayer). There was this unexplained voice on a tape recording I'd made at the church. A friend and co-worker had committed suicide at the church after learning of his wife's plans to divorce him. It was very strange but I didn't find out 'til sometime later that this was an EVP, and was supposedly the voice of a ghost. I believe God saw the dangerous path I was about to take and sent an "advisor", a mentor who witnessed to me and steered me away from that kind of pursuit. I had always been the kind of "odd" one in the family, being interested in ufos and such, as a kid growing up. I was the only one who watched shows like "The Twilight Zone", and, later, "Dark Shadows". Know I know better, (lol), and I'm still interested in that sort of thing, but only for the childhood memories I have of my errant divergence from the right path. As a kid there was always that "delicious" kind of fright with being "spooked" by that sort of stuff. My mentor, who I came to trust, told me that ghosts were demon impersonations.

I hope this thread doesn't become "dead" because it seems everytime I post on a subject or thread , that's the last one and I feel like I've offended everyone and have been excommunicated. I certainly hope that I haven't offended anyone on Worthy Boards, either Christian believer, or skeptical non-believer. I'm still new to Christianity and there's a LOT I don't yet understand, so, I'm going to appear to be among the very worst of sinners at times, probably, but I want you all to know that I don't want to be and I don't want anyone sore at me.

You know what is ironic about my question and issues? I was named after the witch, Angelique, on Dark Shadows! I laughed when I read about you being the only one watching them.. Hmmmm, maybe there is something in a name. :24:

I thought different spirits resided on different frequencies....

Watching those old shows I always enjoyed being "chilled". Angelique and Barnabas were the "big guns" DS always brought out when the ratings began to slip.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
