Shalom,

This is NOT a debate thread. We are NOT debating what day the Sabbath is, that is plainly stated in Scripture as the 7th day. * (Genesis 2)

My question is for those who DO observe the Sabbath on the 7th day.

When you have your Sabbath meal on Friday night, do you use Challah (yeasted, braided, egg bread) and use 2 as representative of the 2 loaves of manna that G-d gave the children of Israel in the wilderness, **(Exodus 16) or do you use unleavened bread as Yeshua used in the Last Supper with His disciples during the Passover?*** (Matthew 26:17-29)

Just curious, this is NOT a debate.

I know some Believers take the L-rd's Supper once a year at Passover, and others observe it every Shabbat. What do y'all do?

*

Genesis 2:

1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and(A) all the host of them. 2And(B) on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

**

Exodus 16:

22On the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers each. And when all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses, 23he said to them, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD; bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over lay aside to be kept till the morning.'" 24So they laid it aside till the morning, as Moses commanded them, and it did not stink, and there were no worms in it. 25Moses said, "Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field. 26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is a Sabbath, there will be none."

27On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. 28And the LORD said to Moses, "How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws? 29See! The LORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Remain each of you in his place; let no one go out of his place on the seventh day." 30So the people rested on the seventh day.

***

Matthew 26

17 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?" 18He said, "Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, 'The Teacher says, My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.'" 19And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover.

20 When it was evening, he reclined at table with the twelve. 21And as they were eating,he said, "Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me." 22And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, "Is it I, Lord?" 23He answered, "He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will betray me. 24The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born." 25Judas, who would betray him, answered, "Is it I, Rabbi?" He said to him, "You have said so."

26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." 27And he took a cup, and when he(AM) had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you, 28for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father

Hi. I don't keep Shabbat, so I don't have an answer for you. I just wanted to say that I found the part about 2 Challah loaves interesting - I had never heard of that.

If I can venture an opinion, it would seem to me that since the unleavened bread was tied to the Passover celebration - one could use Challah bread for most of the year, and unleavened at Passover time?

Shalom Sheya Joe,

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

I actually edited my original post to explain my question because some readers may not know that some Believers take the L-rd's Supper each Sabbath.

My church does not observe the Shabbat, however...

We take the Lords Supper the first Sunday of every month.

We just use little crackers, I don't know if the are unleven or not, they are pretty bland...and grape juice.

I always think, since many churches take the Lords Supper the first Sunday of the month, that we are joining together with other Churches in taking the Lords Supper all together. Unified in Christ.

We have two Challah loaves at our Shabbat service each Saturday....representing the double portion of manna given to the Israelites in the wilderness.

My congregation also partakes of the bread and the wine (body and blood of Yeshua) one Sabbath per month...but do not call it communion. From what I understand (I am only fairly new to this congregation), it is done moreso to appease the many Christians who regularly attend services.

Some want it weekly....some not at all.....so they seem to meet somewhere in the middle.

I would prefer to take the unleavened bread and wine once per year at passover.

we call it communion... and do it on the first sunday of every month, although the pastor says that we should do it at home as often as we can actually do it "in remembrance" and not let it turn into a meaningless ritual.

we use little unleavened crackers and grapejuice. and honestly, i think it's time for them to buy some new unleavened crackers. for the last two months, i've noticed they seemed unusually stale.

VickiLynn,

As you know, I am just learning about the Sabbath so I don't really have much of a belief yet as I'm praying about it currently.

Anyhow, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but how come you type God as "G-d"?

Really just an innocent question. Thanks.

Shalom JamiLea,

#1, it is a way of reverencing G-d and His name.

#2. It is a way of not offending Jewish people to whom I witness because many write the same way, as a reverence.

What does reverence mean?

I mean I believe like the Bible says we should not do anything that would cause our brother to stumble and anything that would offend them...

But how far should one go as to take out the context of God's name, etc.?

P.S. I ask this from a place of love, nothing more, nothing less :whistling:

Shalom JamiLea,

This subject has been discussed many times here on Worthy. If you do a search you can find the previous threads.

I'll be happy to discuss this with you in PM, but I do not wish to derail this thread for it. Thank you for your consideration.

Why would believers be against taking communion?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
