The Da Vinci Code - What is it? I've heard Christians say things here and there about it but I still have no idea what it is. I know it talks about Jesus in there, so I figured it would be like a history book or someone trying to analyze historical events in the bible and writing about it. But then someone told me it was like a dramatic mystery novel or something. Anybody read it? What'd ya think?

First, lets be very clear that it is a novel and it is FICTION. Read as fiction I'm told that it is entertaining. But what it asserts is that Mary Magdelan is the "cup of Christ" or "Holy Grail". That she and Jesus were married.

 I've heard some bad things about the book also. Scarey thing is that some people are not reading it as fiction...as serotta said that is very dangerous.

Myself I will stay away from that particular work.

Love and Blessings,

Angel

PS...ah-ha :oww: I agree with Mobile21 too

From what I heard, it's a good mystery (literary wise) - the message and implication is what's bad.

anti- catholic? or anti - gosple???

something I was feel, is if some one is teaching or preaching and they are inserting falsities, then they should be shunned completely, even their writings,

for isnt this what satan did to eve?

asked her if she was truely forbidden to eat of any fruit of the Garden,

and she said no, we can eat of every fruit of the Garden except this one over here the fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and that one we are not suppose to even touch......

satan got her to change what God had said.... and thus started the ball rolling down hilll....

if something a person reads, or hears, or sees, does not completely line up with the Word of God, i believe it is to be rejected.... not the person, but what is being said.....

Peter would be a great one for this, all thru his descipleship under Jesus, we see Peter messin up, he was not lining up with what was to be done.... he, himself was not rejected, but it was what he was saying that was being rejected....

something to remember and think about.....

have you ever heard some one say....... I have never made a mistake, or I have never errored, or I have never messed up???

have you ever seen some one that is always in trouble, always sticking their foot in their mouth, some one that errors all the time, always messin up? ( not doing criminal activities but every thing they do seems like it goes wrong)

my thoughts are, if you have never made a mistake, you probably have never done anything to make a mistake.....

you hear about Peter alot, and man did he mess up.... always stuck his foot in his mouth, always jumping the gun, ready for anything... why???? He was in the forefront, he didnt want to miss a thing with Jesus, he loved Jesus so much that he just tryed toooooooo hard to do what was right.......

others of the disciples some were hardly ever talked about..... how come??? there were not as active as Peter, they were more reserved.......

whoooooops,

sorry, got runnin off at the fingers....

:P

that is a bold statement (no pun intended) that I do not agree with. :P

I may very well read this book, if I can ever find it in a library. How else will I ever be able to answer someone who were to ask about this book?

I find books on other religous beliefs, very helpful to my own. It allows me to "be ready to give an account to anyone who may ask."

We can't totally separate ourselves from the world. Also, there aren't many pieces that are "completely lined up with the Word of God." For example the Passion does not Completely line up with the Word of God. Also niether does the Left Behind Series.

Maybe I read into your statement if so I apologize, but I think it's good to walk around in the worlds eyes and see what they see. Don't stay too long, or you may get lost! :P

Except that this book claims Christ was married and had children. That does more than just "not lines up with the Word," that completely alters it! :P

Just because a book flies in the face of the Word does not mean we should not READ it. We should only not trust it. We are men and women in a fallen world. We must understand what they see, so we can show them differently. The claims in the Davinci code must be refuted, and how will I or you be able to refute them if we do not know them?

Last Non christian book I read was Why Christianity Must Change or Die by John Shelby Spong. It really gave me some insight on some of the things I will witness when :P witnessing.

I'm saying read it for educational purposes. If you do feel you may stumble because of such a text, then by all means don't read it.

But I like to see where people are coming from, and if tons of people are reading this books, chances are they will form ideologies that fit what it teaches. We must be able to break down these claims, so that we can rebuild the claims of Christ in their lives.

:P:t2: does that make sense... :P

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
