The Jewish seventh-day Sabbath given only to one nation, Israel in the Book of Exodus, is Saturday, always was, still is. The Christian Lord's Day is Sunday, the first day of the wek. Beware the machinations of one, Ellen Gould Harmon White, founder of 19th-century "Seventh Day Adventism", which name is not found as such in either Old or New Testaments. She also offers you an unbiblical "investigative judgment;" a call to vegetarianism as tho it were on Bible-doctrine grounds; Satan as scapegoat in Leviticus 16, et al.

Shalom Arthur,

Nope. You missed where G-d made the 7th day holy and instituted the Sabbath at Creation.

Genesis 2

1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

My calendar starts the first day of the week on Monday, Sunday being that last day of the week. As God did I start my work week on Monday and honor the Sabbath on Sunday. If you can prove that God did not start His work of creation on Monday then I will buy one of your man made calendars and worship on Saturday. Until then I will use Monday as the start of my work week.

There is - as always - a difference in man's standards and Gods. You are right that most people start their work week on Monday. International standard ISO-8601 (International Organization for Standardization (ISO)) has standardized Monday as the "first" day of the week. In my opinion it is just one more secular, worldly way of attempting to usurp God's authority. In Genesis we are not told that on Monday God created the heavens and the earth and He said "Let there be light" and that was the first day, then on Tuesday He separated the waters from the waters. Then on Wednesday.......etc. No, it just names each 24 hour period as "the evening and the morning were the first day", etc. In Hebrew we find that Sunday is known as Yom Reeshone, or First Day, Monday is Yom Shaynee, or Second Day, Tuesday is Yom Shlee'shee or Third Day, Wednesday is Yom Revee'ee or Fourth Day, Thursday is Yom Khah'mee'ee or Fifth Day, Friday is Yom Ha'shee'shee or Sixth day, and Saturday is Shabbat or Rest. The days are from sundown to sundown, so the first day is actually sundown on what we call Saturday to sundown of what we call Sunday. Shabbat begins at sundown on what we call Friday. This is the day of rest. The Sabbath has never changed no matter what man tries to do to it.

Jb, you want proof that Saturday is the seventh day? Go look in a dictionary. Show me proof that Monday is the first day of the week.

Following this thread with interest and as an outside observer, I believe the conversation needs to center on not whether the 10 commandments have been abolished but to who the covenant was binding. Was it indeed given to the nation of Israel or to the church? Not that the spirit of the Law does not apply as wisdom, but to who was the Sabbath (Saturday) established?

The problem with this reasoning is that the Sabbath predated the old covenant; further indication that God meant it for all time. Jesus also said that the Sabbath is made for man. He did not say it was just for the Jews.

very valid point

Shalom David,

As I have posted previously, the Sabbath was instituted by G-d at Creation. He made the DAY holy. The Scriptures say WHY and WHEN. This was done before any WHO came on the scene.

Genesis 2

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

The day has never been made UNholy. IOW, What G-d did at Creation has never been changed by Him. It is man that keeps trying to change it.

1) God did not write the dictionary.

2) God did not name the days of the week.

3) Rom 13 tells us that everyone must submit himself to the governing authority and that authority has set Monday as the start of the WORK week for it's employees and that is why the post office closes on the seventh day because the work week starts on Monday.

4) God tells you to keep the seventh day holy counting from the first day of work.

5) If you really want to use the DICTIONARY as your proof explain this:

Shalom JB,

Just because you call Monday the first day of the week, doesn't mean it is. Others start work on Sunday.

I get my mail from the first day to the sixth day and I rest and worship on the seventh day. It is obvious that the authorities have chosen which is the day of rest and I follow their authority as directed by Scripture. This is about the work week and the day of rest not the stumbling block the pagan calendar.

Some start their work week on Saturday.

Shalom JB,

The AUTHORITY of G-d is that the 7th day is not Sunday. But, you know, you are free to rest any day you wish. It does not negate the Sabbath day being Saturday, actually, Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.

Jb, the dictionary was written by man, yes. You keep talking about the WORK week, not the actual week. The first day of the actual week is Sunday. The 7th is Saturday. The Sabbath day is Saturday. You try to justify your disobedience to God's command by a legality of the work week? Pretty sad the excuses man has not to obey God. :th_praying:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
