Christians and Cremnation?

This is a topic I started in chat today because I always wondered about the sudden drive toward cremnation in recent years. I looked into it a little further today and thought this sermon on the subject was quite interesting. I would really like your thoughts...

I see nothing wrong with it. My mother was cremated. I plan to donate my body to science as my father did, and I presume they will cremate my body when they are finished with it.

i'd like to donate my body to science, personally. but since the body farm is too far away for me to have my body donated without having to pay for it to be transported, it's not very likely. personally, i don't care what becomes of my body after i die.

But haven't you ever wondered if there was some significance to the fact that Jesus was buried...they could have burned Him while he was still on the cross...

Historically cremation is a heathen tradition. Jews and Christians have historically buried intact. The "civilized" cultures in history have buried intact.

Personally, I try to avoid practices that have their roots in heathen cultures. The body being buried intact is symbolic of the anticipated ressurrection of that body.

There was much significance to it. He was buried intact because His body would rise from the dead. Our body will also be raised from the dead. Leaving the body intact is symbolic that you await ressurrection in Christ. Even though the body may decompose to miniscule particles of dust, it was left intact as a symbol that the person awaited the Second coming of Christ.

No, actually He wasn't buried, he was placed in a tomb.

"....ashes to ashes; dust to dust....."; I think no matter what we do with our earthly vessel it will be resurrected.

No, actually He wasn't buried, he was placed in a tomb.

His body remained intact. Techniques were even employed to preserve His body. I personally am going to be placed in a mausoleum when I die.

I assume you mean decompose. And, yeah, what's the difference if you end up as ashes or dust? You're still gone. And God can raise you from the dead regardless of what form you've ended up in.
