heythere, yes, i'm aware that california is trying to make it illegal. that's irrelevant. it IS still legal there, and no other state is trying to pass laws against it.

why is it sad that EXTREME modesty is not common? modesty should be common, but extreme modesty, such as what the FLDS girls are required to wear, is... well... extreme.

i agree that modesty is more common among conservatives. that's not a bad thing. extreme modesty though, is not common among conservatives at all.

i think homeschooling is probably more common among conservatives, but certainly not limited to them.

the vaccinations issue though, i don't believe that has anything to do with conservatism. it has more to do with acknowledging the risks, and anyone who has known a child to go autistic as a result of immunizations is going to be very likely to object to them. i've never met a person who refused to have their children immunized because they were conservative. never. i've known some conservatives that refused, and i've known some liberals who have refused, but their moral values had nothing at all to do with their decision.

you think it's crazy that a parent would have any say in who their child marries. i think that's crazy. have you got grown children? if you do, then you know that while you are entitled to voice your opinion of your child's future mate, you do not have the right to dictate who they marry. if you have raised your child the way God has directed you to do, then you have raised your child to make responsible decisions, or to accept the consequences of their irresponsible ones. under no circumstance should a parent ever have any authority regarding who their adult children marry.

let me revise that statement... a parent should only have authority over who a child marries IF the child is under-age.

ok! Well what I was really asking for were biblical reasons that it is so bad for 15yr olds to marry and that it is bad to have multiple wives!!!???????

Either you are VERY young in the Lord, don't read much or need a great deal of bible study to ask a question like that. :)

That is an opinion, not a biblical verse showing a reason...

Heather,

Do you agree that it is acceptable in our culture to wed children and bear children by them?

Do you agree or disagree that Christians should be obedient to the laws of man?

Your husband's post implies that all things are permissible that are not specifically addressed in the Bible. However, suicide is not addressed, drug usage is not addressed, pornography is not addressed, and prancing around in public in the nude is not addressed. So does that make it okay for Christians to do these things? I think that a reasonable, serious, and Scripturally versed Christian would not entertain such a ridiculous notion.

CHILDREN? No, but I think the age of adulthood is different for everyone.

As long as the laws of man do not go against the laws of God, then yes.

Now to address the rest of your post... ALL of those things are addressed in the bible. Suicide is murdering yourslef, murder is in the bible. Drug use... well your body is a temple of God and you are to keep it holy. Pornography... looking lustfully at another person... Prancing around public nude would fall into the modesty category. I believe it is ALL in there... I also do not like you implying that I or my husband are not reasonable, serious, and scripturally versed.

ok merin, tell me this.... if some 50 year old had the hots for your 13 year old daughter, do you really think that your daughter would be all hot for him in return? and whether she did or didn't (and that's highly unlikely!) would you make her marry the old guy? (or would you even encourage her to do so of her own accord?)

my daughters will marry who, when and how God tells us!!!!

What do you mean by " when God tells US? Are you having a part in the decision?

oh no I see where that could go....LOL

of course I will be apart of the desition... Who better than their daddy?

Will your children have any say?

Absolutely!! But to think that your child will just run off and get married without any council is ridiculous, IMO. Our children will not be raised that way.

Well, this was the original question:

I am truly distressed at the taking apart of these families!!! If marring 15yr olds and having more than one wife is the worst thing going on there... Geez bring their families back together!!!! Please share with me the terriblness of these things because I guess j am missing something.

He said he must be missing something, and so we were explaining to him what he was missing. ;)

and I thank you all!! I am learning so much...

Well Merin my initial thoughts were that you might be unteachable but I have at this point a higher regard for you and a very high regard for the members of the Worthy Board for their sincerety to explain the gravity of this whole picture to you. Kudos to all of you. I am only up to page 12 so I can only praise you all up to this point.:):emot-hug::thumbsup:

So how do you determine the age of adulthood?

Is it legal to marry at the age of 15?

Many of the men in this cult are simply perverts disguised as religious leaders. And the women are brainwashed and emotionally still teenagers themselves due to never being allowed to grow up within a healthy community that teaches true right and wrong. Instead, everything they've been fed has been cult teachings from their cult leaders.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the practices of the FLDS...however...I need to address this issue here.

These people are NOT simply perverts disguised as religious leaders. They are in this practice because of a religious doctrine they have been taught their entire lives. The greatly desire to go to heaven and rule as they have been taught by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. They take on poverty, temptation, and loveless marriages willingly in order to achieve celestial glory. The lifestyle they have chosen is not some orgy filled, sex fest that some would paint it to be. They hold fast to the truths of their gospel as it has been taught to them since 1830 (and more specifically, since 1890 when the FLDS was formed.) While I would agree with probably all of you that they are wrong, that their doctrines are garbage, and they need to be stopped...that opinion opens another can of worms.

It is amazing what this country allows to be called a religion.

While your correct they are doing what has been taught to them...........THAT DOES NOT EXCUSE the child molestation, incest and the abuse of boys that goes on. I don't care WHAT they've been taught since the 1830's, celestial marriage isn't about marrying 12, 13 and 14 year old girls, and throwing your sons away. That little added spice to their "cult" is all fallen human nature and satan.

We need to remember that the Church of LDS started poligymy it does not practice it. It is splinter groups that refuse to give it up. Do not think I am a LDS or support it, I am merely pointing out a fact.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
