To me, "Christian" or praise music should edify God, not ourselves. I have a problem with anything that makes me want to dance (because my body is glorifying the beat - not God). I think of the character of the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ which is of a quieted spirit, loving, gentle etc. and I feel that contemporary Christian music does not reflect this. I'm not saying all Christian music, just anything with weak lyrics and strong backbeat.

Let's face it, we all listen to music because of the way it makes us feel right? But you see, it's not about US and how WE feel, regardless of the lyrics. We must listen or play music that truly edifies God and is in harmony with the Holy Spirit.

I personally feel that Christian Rap, Christian metal, basically Christian contemporary music is yet another deception from Satan subtley designed to lead us away from God while we think we're getting closer.

Yes there WILL be shouts in heaven. Again, this is NOT what I'm talking about.

This is all about the condition of your heart. I believe that you can be singing an edifying song to Jesus, even a hymn, and STILL be pleasing your flesh depending on where your heart is. If a Chritian artist is singing for the Lord, and he/she is thinking about what they look like, are they dancing good enough, I wonder if my voice is going to make that octive - all of these things are of the flesh and not completely or at all focused on God. Do you understand what I'm saying???

Music is a gift from God given to the highest angel now fallen, Lucifer who ever since perverted and polluted it. If Satan has his claws in the Christian church, family, politics, etc. what makes you think he has left Christian music alone? do you think that area is off limits to him? I don't think so.

Look, I don't expect you to agree with me. I've strugged with this issue for many many years until the Lord showed me and opened my eyes a year ago.

Yes it is dependent upon the condition of your heart - but think about the music and it lining up with the character of the Holy Spirit. Can you honestly picture Jesus jammin out onstage at a Christian concert, possibly stage diving? That's an extreme example but I'm trying to make a point about how it enhances or altars our moods. Does it leave you with a sense of peace and quietness or even true joy for the Lord?

Please, before this thread turns into a debate. THese guys are anointed.

I love how they jam then all of a sudden the lead singer starts preaching the gospel.

Please pray hard and maybe even go se them to know what I'm talkin about. Also, they do not allow slam dancin at their gigs.

I don't know who they are but I seen them on a Skyangel and they were Christian rappers and they were screaming, rapping, and they look just like any other secular rapper. In fact I hit the info button to see what station it was and it was some Christian station on SkyAngel. These guys were in the 'hood' rapping on the sidewalk. I couldn't understand anything they were saying.

I'm not telling anyone what to do. I'm just telling you what God has laid on my heart. I was heavily into music - I worked for the asst. dir. of the record pool in NY - I counted bpm for him and labeled the albums. I gone around with dj's and was just into all kinds of music, you name it. But after realizing these things and after MUCH prayer (because I didn't want to give up my extensive collection) I threw everything out - thousands of dollars worth of cd's in the trash. I could have sold it but I didn't want to pass that poison on to someone else.

Like I said....this is just MY opinion. I'm not trying to lay it on any of you. You do as God has purposed in your hearts.

I am just curious, what type of music do you listen too? I listen to all types of Christian music, (sorry I don't like rap, or metal, but that is just my personal taste) but I have been to a SonicFlood concert, and the sprit was there (strongly) also. Do I think that some groups are singing for self, yes, but that goes for all types, even Southern Gospel. Just as I don't think you can judge Jesus by the way some Christians act, I don't think you can judge the music by the way some of the groups act.

Are you serious???? I most certainly can. Let's just say I have the volume turned down on the tv and I see people biting heads off of bats, showing body parts, and doing other lude things, I can pretty much guess what type of people they are and I can KNOW they are NOT pleasing to God. Your actions are a reflection of your heart and I'm surprised that you make allowances for this pastor. You may call it "judging" but I call it taking my walk seriously and being separate from the world.

Disclaimer.......I am not talking about regular contemporary Christian music. I am talking about any group that call themselves christian who perform lude acts. And yet I go deeper - I'm talking about their hearts. Read the whole thread so I don't have to explain it again.

I cannot believe you do not take into consideration how a christian rock groups acts!!! I marvel at that!!!!

By the way, I listen to Paul Wilbur formerly of Israel's Hope. I also like Nancy Honeytree.
