It's been nearly a month now that I decided to eliminate refined Sugar from my life. And it hasn't been all that hard to do since I asked God to help me break a decades old addiction to Sugar.

While looking through my small library upstairs, I found an old paper back which I had started to read years ago, but decided against finishing because there was so much written against the use of refined sugar. Perhaps I didn't believe what was written because I continued to eat food with refined Sugar added. At the time I first came across it, I was of normal size and weight. But years later, I'm neither. And it's my own fault. The fault of the addiction I had to sugar.

As I read through the pages, I came across some very interesting stuff. Some very scary stuff, as well.

Our bodies, our brains and our digestive systems, look at Refined Sugar as POISON. That's right. Even though we like the taste of sugar in anything sweet, when it gets into our stomach, the body views it as a poison and goes into a crisis mode. After years of abuse of our bodies by the use of refined sugar often results in diabetes. Perhaps that's why America is experiencing more cases of diabetes than ever before in the history of this country.

Sugar cane or sugar beet, untouched, is okay. It's when Man gets a hold of it and strips all the fiber and protein out of it and refines it into sucrose, that our bodies view it as poison.

Even when you eat or drink something that states it is an energy drink or is enriched and is supposed to be healthy, if it has sugar in it, you're eating and drinking mostly sugar. Because once the product gets into your system, the sugar kills the vitamins that were in the product, and the cells in your body will begin to starve for nourishment.

What happens to us when the cells of our bodies, especially our brains, are chronically undernourished? The weakest, most vulnerable cells suffer first. When all is working well, the balance is maintained with fine precision under the supervision of our adrenal glands. When we take refined sugar or sucrose, it is the next thing to being glucose so it escapes chemical processing in our bodies. The sucrose passes directly to the intestines where it becomes predigested glucose. This in turn is absorbed into the blood where the glucose level has already been established in precise balance with oxygen. The glucose level in the blood is dramatically increased. The body goes into crisis.

The brain registers it first. Hormones pour from the adrenal casings and marshal every chemical resource to deal with sugar: insulin from the endocrine islets of the pancreas works specifically to hold down the glucose level in the blood while the adrenal hormones are concerned with keeping the glucose level up.

How many of us have this information?

I didn't know it until I started to read this book in earnest. And then it shocked me to realize what I had been doing to my body over the years.

Eating cookies, candy, cakes, hostess cupcakes--yummy! fudge, candied apples, roasting marshmallows, Hersey bars, drinking sodas, malts, using sugar in our coffee, in our tea. In our Kool Aid. How about ice cream cones, sundaes, banana splits and everything else at the Dairy Queen.

I began to realize why I was so tired all the time. And why I was getting fat. I wasn't eating much, but what I was eating had too much sugar in it. Or it had high fructose in it. Just as bad.

Now, I count off the days on the calendar and I can smile because I no longer crave refined Sugar in any form. Thanks to God for breaking the addiction I had to refined sugar.

My source of information: Sugar Blues, by William Dufty

What does the Bible say, My people perish for a lack of knowledge? Hmmm.

How many of you are addicted to refined Sugar? How many could give it up?

I heard someone say once that sugar is becoming more abused than alcohol now days. However I belive that Alcohol has a greater negative effect than sugar does. But most all the abuse comes down to one thing...a lack of knowledge of the substance. thanks

I gave it up about 8 years ago; lost 50 pounds and, except for holidays, leave it alone. I low carb pretty much all the time and the weight never came back. I believe it's the main reason so many are overweight in western countries too.

This is all very true, Willow. And diet drinks are even worse for you. It's best to get all refined sugar out of your diet. Good for you for trying to.

I think I have some addiction to sweets, but it's hard to get all sugar out. But I'm going to try, as I'm starting to go to a gym.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
