But one thing I ponder is how would we react if Russia signed a deal with Cuba to install a missile defense system on that small island?

I believe in strength. I am one of the few that still believes what we did and are still doing in Iraq is justified and right. I just don't believe it is necessary to poke a sleeping bear. Yes, Russia is showing an aggressiveness reminiscent of the cold war but we seem to be too "proactive" at this time prompting Russia to respond to each of our moves.

...but again, would Putin and the Russian parliament have felt compelled to invade Georgia if they didn't feel threatened and the need for a buffer zone.

True... ( I just think some of our policies woke that bear...and of coarse having an old-school communist elected as President of Russia didn't help)

I believe that the intent of this missile shield is exactly what NATO and USA are saying it is: protection from being blackmailed by a nuclear Iran

It is unfortunate that Moscow sees this as a threat to itself...but if Mexico was building nukes to launch at Siberia, I think America would understand Russia's perceived need to defend itself.

however, if we count how many American military bases there are abroad and compare that to Russian military bases abroad, it could appear that only one country is threatening to rule the entire planet.
