Mr. Nice, you've gone over and over this in page after page here. Obviously this is a hot button for you, and just as obviously, most of us disagree. So my question would be, WHY is it so important to you to belabor the point? All of us here are working out our salvation with fear and trembling. As the cartoon says, why not just give us grace to do that, and "let it go"? I mean, if living a sinless life is the gold standard, I suppose when you die and get to heaven you and Jesus will pretty much have the place to yourselves.

A friend of mine and his wife own a working horse ranch. She wears a skirt to church on Sundays, but other than, she's in jeans nearly all the time.

Several years ago a former JW wrote a book called Thirty Years a Watchtower Slave. It's chilling how evil and controlling this cult is.

I think I know where you're going with this, Mr. Nice--and if I'm wrong, please correct me--but trying to say it's works that keep you sanctified is like traveling by pogo stick though a minefield: you're never able to truly rest, and you're always afraid the slightest misstep will destroy you. That's no way to live. Jesus did it all, does it all, and will continue to do it all for me. I rest in that promise, and brother, it's sweet.

Threads like these tend to turn grim fairly quickly, and so, absent God telling me to stay in it, I'll bow out now. Maranatha!

Yep. My wife and I have been Spirit-filled for over forty years (we got saved back in the early 70s), and we have seen, with our own eyes, genuine miracles. As Willa said, most of these have occurred while we were on missions trips overseas. Why? I don't know. The reason could be that most of those folks have never been exposed to cessationist teachings. They were simple enough--perhaps childlike enough--to take God at His word. I won't break fellowship with my brethren who believe God's ceased doing His works, but I won't be dissuaded from what I know, either. As I said, I've seen astounding things--God creating new eyes in a baby born without any, creating new skin on a burn victim, with no scarring, a lot of others--but many times it creates dissension with my brothers and sisters in Christ when I go into detail. So I don't.

The company I work for (a large medical staffing firm doing work for the US military) has a Christmas luncheon each year. The owner's wife runs a small hotel with a five-star chef, and sets aside the dining room for it. You get your choice of three menus (meat, fish, or vegetarian) and this year I chose the meat. The full course consists of Tuscan-style tomato, red pepper, and spinach bisque to start, followed by a very nice salad. The meat's pan-seared Angus New York strip steak with sauteed grape tomatoes, Julienne leeks with cracked peppercorn Merlot wine, and rosemary roasted fingerling potatoes. The grand finale is symphony chocolate croissant bread pudding. Told you he's a five-star chef!

Islam is a cancer on the planet. The sooner it's cut out, the better for us all.

Well, except the terrorists, of course. They need to kill them to the last man and woman.

I'll echo the same question. Most times when a new poster charges in with a laundry list of questions, there's an agenda behind it. What's yours?

I shed no tears for them. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Yep, it's called discovery. Maybe then people will understand his mother (a thug herself) left him as a baby to be raised by his grandmother; his stepfather (the one who urged his fellow thugs to "burn the city down") is really his mom's live-in boyfriend, etc., etc. In other words, they're the personification of fifty years of "the Great Society's" abject failure to uphold black nuclear families, and the disintegration of the same.

ISIS Militants Booby-trap Christian Homes
John Robinson replied to WorthyNewsBot's topic in Christian News
If the country wasn't run by a POTUS who's a fellow-traveler with the Muslim agenda, the answer would be clear: carpet-bomb them until we have no ordnance left, and then finish the job with napalm. These creatures have proven they deserve no place in the human family. But since Obama has made it clear this task is beyond him, we'll just have to fight them here. -
Ferguson MI braces for Grand Jury decision
John Robinson replied to Burning_Ember's topic in U.S. News
All this to redeem the name of a hopped-up thug who got popped for trying to take out a cop. Liberalism really is a mental disease. When Ferguson explodes--and it will--I wonder if liberals will understand even then? -
Washington National Cathedral To Host Muslim Prayer Service

6/10th of one per cent of the American population. And they're taking over or destroying every good thing our nation ever had. Folks, this is NOT by accident. -
Washington National Cathedral To Host Muslim Prayer Service
John Robinson replied to ayin jade's topic in U.S. News
Truth to tell, I'm not sure the National Cathedral was ever a true Christian church in the first place, more like the world's biggest airport-type nondenominational chapel. The fact they're allowing Muslim junk in it doesn't surprise me; I'd be equally unsurprised if sometime soon they allowed a satanic goat-killing ceremony or a witch's coven. It's all the same to the ones who run it. -
Ferguson MI braces for Grand Jury decision

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Most liberals can't connect those dots. It is, however, true. -
Bad economic policies combined with out-of-control thuggery ruined it.

what do christians do for fun on free time?
John Robinson replied to thesaintman's topic in General Discussion
My wife and I garden when the weather's warm. When it's cold outside we put on music (mainly classic rock or big band stuff from the 40s) and just snuggle, or we watch classic movies. I'm also a writer, so I'm usually working on something for my agent! -
Yep, you ask 100 strong Christians the question, they'll tell you one thing. You ask 100 welfare queens with six "baby daddies" apiece, and they'll call him savior ... and do.

You nailed it. Totally agree.

Man, over a hundred pages and this guy is still at it. Talk about blinded. Sad and infuriating at the same time.

A buddy of mine once told me he'd witnessed many times to guy he knew in his platoon during the Vietnam war, but with no result. This went on for weeks, until one day their position was overrun by NVA. The fight was fierce, and its end there were plenty of dead and dying on both sides ... this unsaved guy among them. As my buddy frantically worked on him, the unsaved guy, fearful and knowing he was dying, begged my buddy to show him how to get saved. He led him a simple prayer, and a few minutes later he was gone. Baptism was never mentioned; and in a free-fire zone, it would have been impossible anyway. I have no doubt in my mind that soldier is in heaven today, and has been since he died in that blood-soaked rice paddy in 1970. I could go on. What about the people in those planes on 9/11? Or the ones in the towers? Or the FDNY firefighters trapped in the pitch darkness as they waited for those same towers to fall on them and crush them? No, I believe God IS able to save to the uttermost those that call on Him for salvation. All that to say, I totally reject the idea that baptism is a requirement for this. Too many times in some very dire circumstances it simply cannot be done.
