In short, I think there is. And sadly, I think the most blind are some (but not all) Christians. How else to explain the numbers of our brothers and sisters who throw up their hands and swoon in praise of a man who despises them, the Bible, and the God they claim to serve? We expect this of liberals and the unsaved; they're only giving in to their baser desires. But Christians? I never thought I'd see it. During these final few weeks of run-up to the elections, I've heard there is intercessory prayer going that God in His mercy would pull off a miracle, and deliver us again. Thing is, I'm not so sure we deserve it. Every time He's pulled our national chestnuts out of the fire, there's been a short time of supposedly turning back to Him, but that time is always brief. I don't know. It could be He'll use another Obama win--and its attendent darkness--to bring us all to Himself. There really is nothing quite like intense persecution and economic annihilation to get our attention. And it's tough, but I think we've brought a lot of this on ourselves. But who knows? Maybe this will help us all to stop ridiculing and slamming each other, and actually begin living like family. Pretty to think so, anyway. As another poster here says (and I agree with him), "brace for impact."

I recall videos from four years ago showing supposedly "Christian" women raising their hands to Obama in praise and then swooning as he spoke. Like Winsomebulldog, I also felt horror when I saw that, and a distinct sense of dread for these people's spiritual state. I can't help but wonder if this is it for us, if we as a nation have turned a corner, and God has written "Ichabod" ("the glory of the Lord has departed") over us. Plainly put, we aren't immune from His judgment. We may think we are, but we're not. The only nation God has promised eternally to hold in His hand is Israel, and no other. We anger Him at our peril.

I was baptized when I was 14, but only to shut up my mom (I was a closet athiest at the time, but I think she suspected). Ten years later, when I truly got saved, I did it again, but this time for myself. Somebody once said baptism is an "outward sign of an inward act." That pretty much says it. I'd publicly lived like the devil for over twenty years, so when I gave my heart to Jesus, I just as publicly wanted that fact to be known. That said, after I was saved I worked with a guy who was a member of the Church of Christ (no musical instruments in their sanctuary, rabidly cessationist, rock-ribbed in their insistance that baptism is crucial to salvation, and so on). Although I disagreed with him about his church's teachings (he thought Pentecostals--of which I was, and am, one--were demon-possessed) he still was a very nice, albeit misguided, man.

My oldest son served a very tough hitch in the 82nd Airborne Rangers (15th PsyOps Battalion). His tour was up in early 2001, before the terrorist attacks, so he wasn't sent to the Mideast, but a lot of his bros were. Some never made it home, and that still haunts him. -
While admittedly I'm fairly new here at Worthy, I'm not new to internet forums, both Christian and (given my writing profession) non. Something I've been noticing here and on other believers' sites is there seems to be a rising tide of Christians who've latched on to varying stripes of legalism, be it KJV-only, Sabbath-keeping, tattoos (gasp!), or what have you. Is it just me, or has anyone else seeing the same thing? And if there are more legalists online these days, then given the subtext of Paul's letter to the Galations, why are they showing up here and elsewhere in greater numbers?

Good gravy. I knew this thread would spiral downward. They always do (viz. my comment, "here we go again").

Shave him, dip a .45 ACP round in some bacon grease, chamber it, and put the round in his head. Boom, done. Ain't I awful? ETA: I work for a company that does military medical contracting, and we lost some good people that day to this fool. In my opinion, the sooner he exits the planet, the better.

Liberals--Democrats and Republicans both--simply don't understand basic economic truths, one of the most truthful being, without private sector jobs, there ARE no government jobs. At all. Things get especially problematic when the CiC has socialistic tendencies, and can't wait to try out his failed policies on a captive public. Oh well. As my old drill sargent used to say (a lot), "boys, it is what it is."

WN: France Plans 75% Tax on Rich - NY Times
John Robinson replied to WorthyNewsBot's topic in World News
In the fifties here in the U.S. the rate was nearly 90%, and was that way for years. Most of the rich just placed their money in offshore liquid accounts and avoided the issue. The problem is liberals and socialists only put nutty programs like this in place to soothe the masses and convince them they're "doing something." -

For those that don't know, Salon is yet another left-wing rag writing for the psuedo-intelligentsia. On almost anything they post, they're 180 degrees opposite of what the Bible teaches. -
WN: Two-Thirds of Democrats Now Support Gay Marriage - Pew Forum
John Robinson replied to WorthyNewsBot's topic in U.S. News
Back before I was saved I was a McGovern (anybody remember him?) campaign worker; of course when he lost I was heartbroken. After I became a Christian, it seemed the scales fell from my eyes, and I couldn't believe I'd willingly sunk so much of my time, sweat, and money into a party that so blatantly embraced darkness. Now here we are nearly forty years later, and the Democratic party has completely left the rails. I can see how they appeal to the unsaved--abortion through birth, legalized (worse, celebrated) perverted sex, drug legalization, wealth distribution on a heretofore unimagined scale--and so forth. What puzzles my socks off is why anyone who names the name of Christ stays in lockstep with these evil people. What do they possibly think they'll gain? God's approval? Not likely. In fact, they're willingly placing themselves in His gunsights, and then they'll moan and groan about why He's lifted His hand of blessing from their lives. But why? He's never winked at sin, or at those who encourage others to sin. It's madness. -

"Christian" Obama; I nearly shot my Cheerios through my nose on that one. Homebild, you're a funny guy! *G* -
I think ol' Winnie gave herself away when she started on the "Egyptian" stuff on this thread. Before she was banned the first time, she was going on and on (and on) about the "Jesus is nothing but the Horus legend from the pharoahs" argle-bargle in other threads. That finally got her bounced the first time, and apparently did the same thing again. The devil's apologists just aren't real sharp, y'know? *G*

You guys always bless me. Thank you! -
Yep. You have one guy who says he's against abortion and "gay rights", but may not be, and another who's not only for these things, but actively promotes them. Why in the name of all that's holy should any Christian support the latter? All I can figure is they've weighed his hate for the unborn and his love for unnatural sex against what he can promise for these Christians. Doing so, however, they've aligned themselves with a very evil man, and so believe God will turn a blind eye to this demonic alliance. That's plain scary. But as I said, even though there's more of these Christians than there are of us ... we're still called to stand against the encroaching darkness. Come, Lord Jesus. Come.
-
I certainly see what you're saying, Katie, but four years of harsh experience has taught me that many--too many--Christians have and are willingly aligning themselves with a man who actively promotes these sins. Who, in fact, encourages others to do them. To me, that's astounding. And even though we won't win this fight, the battle is still worth waging. Don't you think?
-
A gutsy move by Dean, but in the end, pointless. Many Christians (some of whom post here) see nothing wrong with any of Obama's sinful stances enumerated above; he's fine with it, and so are they. Worse, these same Christians have found common cause with those who hate them and our God: Marxists, abortion providers, gay rights pushers, and so forth. Why? I have no idea. But the thing is, there are more of these two groups, linked at the hip, than there are Bible-believing Christians in America ... and they're growing exponentially. The best we as Christians can do is battle the expanding darkness on our knees.

Liberals simply have no idea how offensive his comment is to a small business owner (of which I used to be one). We know what it takes to have a few people on the payroll, to many times have to go without pay so our employees can eat. But at the end of the day, a condescending jackanape like the Abortionist-In-Chief really can't do--or say--anything wrong in a socialist's eyes. That's ... astounding. And not a little sad.

Thanks so much for posting that, Ivy! What a blessing!

Will the election really bring about change?
John Robinson replied to firestormx's topic in General Discussion
After a lot of prayer and observation, I've come to the conclusion God has lifted His hand from our nation. I know a lot of Christians won't agree, and that's fine; just one man's opinion, and I pray that I'm wrong. But history tells us most nations rise, prosper, wane, and then fall, and to think we're somehow immune to that is folly. Will it be permanent? Maybe not. There's always a chance the Body of Christ here in America will, like Ninevah, repent, and stay God's judgment. But in my heart of hearts I believe we've passed the tipping point, and there's no saving this ship.
