I think mane one or two. I was attending a church was kind of on the edge of the Word of Faith movement, they aren't full blown WoFers but would quote people like John Hagee or Joyce Mire crime time to time.

You are forgiven, it was actually a very good post.

You know we should live by WWJD....well...

Yomotalking, there is a blast from the past. -
I have a question for those who espouse the "word of faith" movement aka the "Prosperty gospel". What happens when the financial blessings don't come, or the healing you have been believing in isn't there? How does that affect your faith in the sufficiency of Christ? Do you ever question your faith as a whole?

We Are Told Not To Question Someone's Faith But...
ricky replied to LadyKay's topic in General Discussion
I was wanting to post something along those lines, but you beat me too it. I think you can be a Christian and have errant doctrine, and that needs to be corrected, but too often instead of loving correction, someone faces condemnation. -
Pentecostal Church in North Carolina Is Turned Into Islamic Center
ricky replied to PlanetChee's topic in Christian News
I haven't heard about cathedrals being turned into mosques, I have heard of some churches. Though a lot of that talk comes from Americans saying about how the UK has turned to Islam, when it really hasn't -
Pasta based dishes such as spaghetti work well for church pot lucks and such, as it's fairly simple in large quantities.

I'm not buying it, my name means "strong ruler" yet I have very little leadership ability though one of my is "Yahweh is Gracious" which I agree with obviously.

If you want to start a group I will join, I think it could be quite good

Australian man squashed in economy seat sues American Airlines
ricky replied to HisFirst's topic in World News
From the article see the gentleman has scoliosis, (a curvature in the spine). I have the same thing, and find flying to be somewhat uncomfortable on certain airlines without and empty seat beside me. I can only image how bad it would be to be squashed between who very large passengers for such a long haul flight. -
She turned down outreach and other important ministries, ministries I personally think are more important than Sunday morning preaching (thought that is important) I think this person shows the lack of a servant heart. That is not to say that everyone is meant for every ministry. I personally cringe at the thought of doing children's ministry.

I think the reputation comes from large church groups and people who pray before the meal. But i agree most Christians fly under the radar so to speak.

Does people leaving a tract instead of a tip to a waiter or waitress really happen? I have heard rumors that is goes on, and know Christians have a bad reputation when it comes to tipping. However if anyone here has worked as a waiter/waitress has it happened to you? Do you leave a tract instead of a tip? or is this just an urban legand that someone thought up out of the blue?

While it has been unedifying in some ways, at least the thread didn't turn into one man's opinion about women wearing pants, there has been able to be a more full debate on the issue of modesty, which would not have been possible in the past as the issue would have been sidetracked by the women in pants issue.

I personally try not to use profanity as a personal conviction. Non Christians watch what we do, and how we behave. They expect us, and even respect us for not cussing in my experiance. For some if we cuss we may lose some of that respect. That said coming from a different culture I think it can be diffiult to walk the line. For instance, the d word isn't considered a swear word in the UK but here in Texas it is. Patriot also mentioned crap, to me a slang word, one which I heard a preacher who I very highly respect use on a Video describing the prosperity gospel recently. But some find it highly offensive.

It is refreshing that a thread like this hasn't turned into a "if women wear pants instead of a skirt the are going to hell" thread.

Trump administration to roll back some school lunch rules
ricky replied to MorningGlory's topic in U.S. News
I am just imagining the visual of this in my head, that would have been hilarious. -
I agree, we don't really have that problem in our church, but it has been a problem at other places in the passed.
-
I think just being responsible and reasonable would be s good start, i.e. low cut clothes or very tight fitting clothes.

Some of the tweets make a valid point, others do not. The one about not condoning rape, but asking women to dress modestly is off base in my opinion. I am not king to say that women should wear burkas, or even long skirts all the time. However, I do struggle with lust, and women who dress immodestly tend to make that struggle more difficult. I'm not going to a rape a woman who dressed immodestly, but I may get lustful feelings towards her. I think a Christian woman should be mindful of this and try not to cause their brothers in Christ to stumble.

I'm not a big twitter fan to be honest, I am a huge Facebook, but don't follow Mr Trump. Social media is fascinating though.

I may be slightly biased but Whataburger is great.

Not all CoC churches are acapella, my church have a lot of people from a CofC background and we sing some hymns without instruments, but most we sing with a band. We don't claim to be a Church of Christ congregation but I know the Hills Church between Dallas and Fort Worth are CofC and are instrumental. The Church of Christ is such a broad movement that you can go into one church of Christ and it would be complacently different from another.

Threads like these pop up when there has been a lot of tension on the boards to kind of break the tension.
