  1. My area is on that list too, I'm pretty sure. I'll be honest though: I'd rather go up in a mushroom cloud than "survive" a nuclear strike. Better that than existing in what's left after something like that. There's a reason for the saying, "The living will envy the dead."
  2. This is more or less normal in Germany and other countries where WWII was fought - especially in areas that were heavily bombed back then. When I was stationed in (then West) Germany they found 4 old 500 lb bombs on base while regrading the school soccer field. It commonly happens during excavations in construction or road work. The authorities have detailed procedures for this stuff now because they have lots of practice at it.
  3. Hamas started the fight. Israel intends to finish it for good. As I see it Hamas can surrender unconditionally, lay down their arms, & acknowledge Israel's right to exist . . . or they can die. Sounds harsh? See what Hamas did on October 7th, 2023 - and celebrated about it. That kind of evil cannot be bargained with. They do not have the same worldview as the West & the West needs to understand that. Hamas and other groups having been screaming they want Israel wiped off the map for years and 10/07/2023 was an example of how they want to accomplish that.
  4. Yes. Tattoos are not a big issue for me and I usually don't bother bringing the subject up in conversation. Our pastor is a bit different since he's a former biker (who still rides) who got saved many years ago and is now in his 70s. Early in his walk with Christ he realized that a couple of his tats needed . . . remodeling. So he had them modified into things more Christ centered. He rode with a Christian biker group for quite awhile too, and it allows him to share the gospel with some who would not listen to most believers otherwise.
  5. Outstanding warrants can be a hurdle as well.
  6. Doubt it. They have back up generators anyway . . . I find the whole greenie thing ironic, and this part of the article hilarious: Hmm . . . limiting themselves to wind, solar, and hydro for power . . . "I'll take "clouds suddenly blocking solar" for $500, Alex!" Don't know if that's what actually happened, but my guess would be the officials won't say much if that's the case. They will keep pushing the agenda.
  7. . . . and salt doesn't work if it's left in storage. It must be used.
  8. Oh, yeah. We take basic sanitation for granted in the developed world. Nothing quite like a pit latrine (outhouse) in South America or anywhere tropical for pure stench though . . .
  9. When I was in Florida we were always prepared for hurricane season. It just made sense to have a supply of non-perishable (i.e. canned) food and drinking water stashed because the grid can be out literally for weeks after a big storm depending on the area. Last storm took the roof off half the house I was staying in and the power wasn't back up for almost 6 weeks due to none of the poles survived the storm. We had food, water, and were armed so we had no problems with looters. One benefit of being in a 'hood known for a large veteran population. lol. We hated the storm and the aftermath - but around 80 billion mosquitoes loved it.
  10. Pretty much. All of that mess in CA comes down to one thing: Bad Government Policies. Too bad this may affect people who live outside CA and didn't vote for or want these kinds of policies.
  11. Wonderful news . . . gas is already $3.65/gal for regular due to the "special" CA gas we have to use in Maricopa county. The same grade fuel runs about $3.00/gal elsewhere in the state. I've seen prices vary anywhere from $0.50 to $1.10 or so less outside Maricopa county over the last few year. Other parts of the state get their fuel from Texas and elsewhere. Fun fact: Increase the cost of fuel and the cost of transport and electricity goes up along with grocery prices and everything else. More inflation, anyone?
  12. I hate companies that do this to candidates. It's a waste of time - mine especially. If I'm looking for work I have little time for stupid silly games. The time wasted on things like that psych test could be used for something more productive (like the interview at a company that doesn't waste people's time.) Yes, I've run into several companies over the years that do this. I usually try to have some fun with it and react in ways that screw up their whole little game. Best one: They left me in a room with cameras, etc. for a bit over 2 hours - so having learned in the military to grab some rest whenever you could I took a nap. Then when someone finally showed up I made them wait while I went to the bathroom. It was pretty clear they were not happy at that point, so then I grilled them about why they'd wasted 2 hours of my time in a polite professional manner. Someone else showed up for the real interview and I was surprised when they made me an offer awhile later. As someone said on LinkeIn.com about this stuff: "Be the dumpster fire that spreads light in the darkness, or at least be the purple squirrel!"
  13. I'd recommend finding a good financial advisor for that kind of advice. You should be able to find one who is a believer as well. I was surprised how easy they are to find. Perhaps someone at church knows one?
  14. I'd like to suggest the questions be answered and belittling comments be withheld. There are several rapture view points or theories and no one has a 100% picture of exactly how all that is going to work out. Therefore it is usually best to focus on Christ and the things he told us to do, namely share the gospel. 1. I have no idea what the fascination is about what happens after the church is gone in the pre-trib as some call it. I grew up mostly outside the US so it's never been a big "thing" for me personally. 2. My opinion only, but I find no edification in that discussion. Revelation is pretty clear that life on Earth is going to get really ugly and billions are going to die as a result. (I have a very strong preference for not being here for that, and I'm not afraid to admit it.) That's not something I enjoy discussing especially after seeing a few things in the Gulf War I'd rather forget. God's judgement on a wicked world is something I personally find sobering. God is merciful and patient - but His patience does have a limit and once that passes there is judgement. This is part of Who God is for He cannot abide sin.
  15. Hmm . . . maybe the pounding they've gotten that Hamas instigated is waking some folks up. Time will tell.
  16. God's Smuggler is about Brother Andrew who smuggled bibles into Eastern Europe when the Soviets were in power. Quite inspiring for the young believer I was when I first read it. Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas is another good one. The Voice of the Martyrs site has more info on persecution in countries around the the world too. They can be eye opening.
  17. Most of the open positions are for the Middle East so far. The wage offers are pretty insane, but there doesn't seem to be many takers (and for good reason!) Many require travel to and extended stays in potential war zone areas and I made it clear I'm not interested in those. lol One good thing is that Afghanistan is no longer on the locations list. That's good because something tells me I wouldn't get along very well with the Taliban. This was a possibility only, but the last time I looked into this it led to a long stay in the EU. We'll see how things go in the mean time.
  18. Wow, okay. Fair enough. There has always been unsolved crimes, but do you really want things like the honor killing Jade mentioned going on here in the US, maybe right down the street? I'm not okay with that even though it may happen anyway. So if I understand correctly: We're supposed to just do nothing and sit back and let it happen? Not even try to wake people up to the danger - and maybe wake a few believers and churches up in the process with the Lord's help? I'm reminded of the saying, "All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
  19. Nope. I'm not leaving because of Trump or Musk. I'm considering leaving if and when I get a job offer in the UK or EU though. I'll be looking into the requirements to stay while I'm there in case something has changed, but I have no real reason to return because there's nothing to come back to here. All the older family members passed away years ago and those still alive are overseas.
  20. I have family in the UK, Germany, and Australia, and I'm aware of the craziness that's taken over. I'm going to go where I can find work I'll deal with all that however the Holy Spirit leads. Funny thing about the praying in your head thing . . . they can't read minds. So we're okay for now. Perhaps that's a mercy - for them. My mind tends to be a bad neighborhood they might not want to access! lol
  21. I'd leave if I could. Oddly enough I've had some interest from my old agency that I worked for in UK years ago. Seems being older is not a problem for them as it is in the US - and some companies actually understand the need to train new hires over there. (What a concept!) I'm working with a recruiter there because at this point I'm pretty disgusted with the hiring games in US. I guess I'm considering leaving the US because I can still go where I can get work. I just need to find out how that might affect a few other things going on. So it may get interesting. I find myself wondering how we got here as a culture where a person wants to work, is physically capable of work, and no one will hire you. smh If someone had popped out of a time machine and told me about this stuff, say in the early '80s, I would have asked them what kind of drugs they were on.
  22. What of it? Perhaps its just "of the world" but that doesn't mean that the church shouldn't keep it's eyes open. Its a mission field right on your front door step for one thing. We can still share Christ with them for now without necessarily taking our lives in our hands. That will change with time as their numbers increase. If the Islamization is allowed to continue that will be the case just as in some areas in France where the muslims won't talk to the police. Suspected murders go unsolved because the western authorities area effectively walled out in these areas. This is not okay.
  23. It should also be understood that in Islam there is no so-called separation of "church and state". They are one and the same in Islam as other one said. This is completely different than the western way of doing things. There are several areas here in Phoenix that have looked a lot like places I saw in the Middle East when I was there in the 90s. They are building some huge new mosques too which means they are here to stay . . . and so it goes. Europe and UK will be lost soon if they don't stand up for their western culture.
  24. I could force myself to live on $140k/year. I've seen some of shrieking apocalyptic stories in the lame stream (union funded) media about all the folks getting laid off. Hard to empathize when I'm having trouble getting a $20/hr job. The fraud, waste, and abuse of taxpayer funds needs to stop.
  25. There's always someone saying, "I'm leaving the country if xxxxx wins!" so that's just background noise that gets ignored as far as I'm concerned. There are some valid reasons to leave the country behind should someone decide to do so though. Some ex-pats are retirees who can live much cheaper outside the USA. Changes to the tax laws mean its also cheaper to get local citizenship in your country of choice then renounce American citizenship so you don't have to pay American tax on your income any longer. I have a sister who did this because she and her family decided they like living in Germany and have nothing here in the US to return to. She did so to avoid double taxation. I met a couple recently who are now retired and are finishing up their move to Costa Rica. They say its really nice there and they moved because of the low cost of living not politics.
