  1. Other one, thanks for all of the lovely photos you posted. I do love Winter scenes and Fall, too. Did some paintings of those seasons. Shel, may I ask what suburb of Pittsburgh? I grew up in Pittsburgh! On the Northside, in Brighton Heights....near to Bellevue. We were fairly close to the old West View Park...a nice little amusement park. I understand they tore it down. That amusement park was surrounded by Honeysuckle vines, oh what a heavenly fragrance every time we visited the park. Lots of good childhood and teen memories for me of Pittsburgh. Is that a ferret? Yes, he is cute!
  2. Swat leader, drug dealer and peacocks....what a combination of neighbors! Would enjoy seeing those peacocks, although I know they can be quite noisy. Being an animal, bird lover, I would put up with it though. Neighbor, always enjoy your descriptive posts, btw. Actually enjoyed everyone's posts, thanks everyone for joining in. Thought this would be a pleasant topic, something light. The photos were also lovely, Sower! See any scenery or anything else, LadyKay? Beau, you should call the city or whoever is in charge of your area about that tree. Here quite a few large trees toppled the past year....some falling on homes, others fell on cars. Alot of damage, thankfully no one killed. The scenery, animals, birds sound so lovely. I always loved creeks when I grew up in PA. Didn't have one in our neighborhood but saw them when we went to the woods.
  3. Happy Father's Day to all! Glad for those that still have their earthly dads, but isn't it wonderful we all have our heavenly Father.
  4. This area seems to be one of the busiest so I'm putting this topic here. Just something fun to share.... What is the view from your front door? I see two old apartment buildings across the street with a gated yard between them. On the main street behind them, I can see the top of a tall, modern apartment building. When I look to the West, I see a tall, historic art deco building. When I look East, I see a very large, imposing, old, ornate apartment building. There are also trees, flowers and bushes on my small street.
  5. Not sure if many saw my topic on stray cats around the world. There are photos....
  6. Oh, that's a different variety of squirrel. We have a couple of commercials on TV warning against getting too near outside electrical wires with tools, and releasing metallic balloons. The stars of the commercials are two squirrels! They look so cute and flick their tails....they also talk! But look so lifelike....of course, must be computer generated. Lots of our commercials have animals in them, and some have humor. Such a sweet story!
  7. No, it sounds like the squirrel was the loser. If you or Sonshine wants to tell us, what was the story with Oliver? When I was a kid I fed a squirrel. One time when I sat on the steps feeding him, he jumped up on me and proceeded to walk all the way up my arm, around the back of my shoulders, and down the other arm to my hand. For some reason I then got scared and shook my hand...so he jumped off, leaving me with one small scratch on my hand. My fault, I shouldn't have shaken my hand with him on it! My mom put iodine on the scratch.
  8. I know some Sisters that feed stray cats at their house. Usually one Sister stands around while the cats eat as they also have raccoons. However, since one cat is usually late, she was hiding a food dish for it on top of the outside washing machine. Well, those raccoons found the dish anyhow! Apparently the raccoons make a little ruckus in the wee hours, too.
  9. A fourteen year old girl got stuck in her chimney as she tried to enter her house that way. She had something on the stove and had forgotten the keys. Fire fighters had to dismantle the chimney. Luckily neighbors heard her cries for help and called 911. https://people.com/human-interest/teen-trapped-chimney-rescue-california/
  10. That's really great about your daughter and your pets! Years ago I had a Shih Tsu. Then this dog person started to feed the stray cats on my street so that's how I got to know cats! I always thought they were independent before....but cats will follow you and come when called, too.
  11. Love it! You do keep these topics interesting!
  12. Someone asked this same type of question recently. Yes, you can be forgiven. Jesus paid the price for all of our sins. Just pray, talking to the Lord in your own words....ask for forgiveness, believe on Christ as your Savior and Lord. Of course, pray and read the Bible regularly for spiritual growth. I hope you have a good church where the Bible is taught.
  13. Trap, neuter, release has had great success....after all the strays I fed were neutered on my street, their population dwindled and eventually I had no more cats to feed outside. Also, the cats keep rats and mice away. I understand the rodents can smell the cats and avoid an area with cats. I don't know about other cities but here the animal shelters spay and neuter all pets adopted out. They neuter them even at a young age to prevent irresponsible people letting pets breed. https://www.alleycat.org/our-work/trap-neuter-return/
  14. It sounds like you have forgiven them....you harbor no hate or ill will. You try to help them. The hurt will eventually lessen.
  15. Some years ago I did watch a few of his programs where he does the street evangelism. Would probably be good to watch one again to refresh my memory!
  16. There are many feeders of feral colonies here. I know a lady, Yolanda, that has gotten a couple of thousand cats spayed and neutered throughout her lifetime. Maybe even more than that. She has a large yard and also has many strays living there. Yolanda also gets them adopted to very good homes. She investigates before giving any animal to anyone. She gives them flea baths, shots, usually neuters before adopting them out....she just asks for a donation to help cover that stuff. My cat had kittens while still on my street. Yolanda adopted four of them to very good homes in wealthy areas.....I joked the cats were living better than me! The other kitten, my favorite....a runt, a man across the street who had a cat took it....I later found out he was on drugs and apparently abused the cat from my cat's litter. It was hearsay so I couldn't really do anything about it. The two guys telling me this stuff wouldn't call animal control. So I would just pray for the cat and the drug guy. After that, I understood Yolanda doing such thorough checks on anyone wanting to adopt. Long ago the manager across the street had an open window for his two cats to come and go. They would often bring him mice inside the apartment! But I don't think they ever killed them.
  17. Glad you are back! I was without internet for a few days, too.
  18. Happened to see that one of our dear members has been feeding some stray cats. Perhaps some would like to share their experiences? Currently I'm not feeding any but some years ago I did for some time. Someone from my building had moved and put their cat on the street! She had kittens. I ended up feeding 12 cats each night. I did get them spayed and neutered with the help of a rescue group. That helped immensely as through the years some passed on and a few were even adopted. (All of my cats through the years were adopted from my street. One was adopted when his owner, a neighbor, died.) Spay, neuter, release is being recognized by many cities now as the best way to control feral cats. Action Cat Allies can often refer you to animal rescue groups in your area.
  19. Sorry for your fear about that as a child....but just had to laugh at the vivid description of it all!
  20. Sorry you got hurt here and are leaving. I always enjoyed your posts. Glad you got a better job now. God bless you!
  21. Yes, we have the righteousness of Christ so we don't need to fear standing before God.
  22. There are all inclusive groups such as you describe. However, I was making my comment about those that are so legalistic that they seem to elevate their good works/law keeping above Christ's salvation and the Holy Spirit's work in us.
  23. Following is the link to the page.....the above quote is in the #1 section, titled Christians. http://www.kingwatch.co.nz/Kingdom_of_God/tools.htm
  24. Sorry, wrong link.... it's late! Will find the page either tonight or later today....I should be turning in!
  25. Following is a quote from the above site.... "When the saints exercise the authority that Jesus has given to them, they will establish his Government on the earth. All rulers will come to obey his word, and to worship his name. It is the saints, and not Jesus, who will establish the Kingdom."
