Poll: Nearly half of Americans uncertain God exists
terter replied to He giveth more grace's topic in General Discussion
As with any poll, there's lots of questions. Recently there was suppose to be a study that showed that prayer didn't work - Who prayed? Who were the prayers said to? What did they pray? Did they believe their prayers would make a difference? How were the "effects" measured? etc. Until a lot more details are available, I don't really value polls. -
Passion of the heart lost...
terter replied to sport123's topic in Have a problem? Looking for advice?
Do you mean the passion of your heart is lost? -
Just like there are generational blessings, there are generational curses according to scripture.

Know a couple who sold their very expensive home and gave away most of their money. They did buy a much smaller place and waited for years for the Lord to tell them their next move. Many people came around to tell them they must not have heard right while they waited and waited. But some time ago, the Lord instructed them on their next step so they proceeded. An actor who was called to be an evangelist was doing both. His wife told him she thought he needed to chose. He prayed and the Lord lead him to be an evangelist. For over 30 years, he has responded to invitations all over the world while he uses his acting background. His income totally depends on donations to support him and his family. He dresses in costume and presents Biblical characters such as Judas, Peter. By the way, he is Catholic and I've never known of an evangelist from among their lay people. My husband and I attended CC for a couple of years. He was awesome as I watched his unusual presentation and I was blessed.

Personally, I am thrilled to have a President that prays, that believes in prayer, and is not ashamed to speak of God in his addresses. Recently a lady was invited to the White House for a function. She talks all the time; however, when Bush started talking to her, she couldn't think of anything to say. In a few minutes, he came back over, spoke again and started moving away, she then told him that many people were praying for him. He turned around and came back to her. She said he was extremely sincere and he talked about how much he appreciated it. Sometimes I wonder how encouraging it would be to him if he just knew "a count" of the people who hold him in prayer on a consistent basis. It is Biblical to pray for our leaders.

I attend a church where the gifts of the spirit operate so I can certainly understand why you would want to attend. We came from another denomination so there were some things that we prayed about, studied the Bible, and the Holy Spirit led us. Usually worship is awesome in these type of churches and that's the reason why we're there - to worship the Lord.

Since we're comparing Biblical prophets and today's - let's use the approved "standards"- Do you really think for one second that John the Baptist would be accepted in most churches today - you know pass the front door? Allowed to speak? Plus he had declared who Christ is and then later got to feeling sorry for himself and send men to Christ and said "Luk 7:20 ...Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?" What would happen if a prophet did that today - no matter what kind of mood they were in. Can you just imagine Christians being told a raven feed Elijah? I can just hear it now - That's not logical - you do know that birds eat that type of food, they wouldn't be able to deliver to any person. Or did you see how he got into Baal's prophets' faces, that was very unChristian like. Or how about him living with the widow and her son? That would take care of him today for sure. If that didn't him putting his head between his knees to pay would definitely do it. Paul - what about his "fruit?" Hosea - wasn't he the one with a prostitute as a wife? That would really go over with any church's board. What would that say to us today about His character? Noah would be considered by many to be a FALSE PROPHET into his year 2 of 120 years of him talking about rain - a flood. Plus Paul and Elijah took contributions. I understand the concerns posted - I know there's a lot of room for improvement. But sometimes it seems some want to throw the whole idea out just because of a few. But we still have to go with what the Word says. The Lord knew all about these folks including their shortcomings and still used them. Just like He does today.

The Bible says there are "word of Knowlege" and "word of wisdom." Usually all it takes it one "word of knowledge" and they change their minds about things. The Lord just knows how to touch our hearts.

"The church" and "discussions in threads"
terter replied to kittylover0991's topic in General Discussion
Sometimes it's not the opinion that's expressed but the attitude that is displayed in expressing it. Some folks seem to think that their opinion is totally right regarding all topics and someone else's is totally wrong. Sometimes I think the thread should start - if you don't believe in x, please don't respond so I can get input from people who have similar views so we can share something and learn. -
All scripture has to be viewed overall. How does this one verse line up with all the others - that should impact our interpretation. If that verse meant your soul's salvation then verses like John 3:16 would not be accurate. So when a verse "sticks out" like that - then we get into the interpretation of the words contained within that scripture. Hence all the above posts. Thanks.

Yes, I believe the Lord uses us and when we fail - and ALL of us have, God didn't fail her. He provided another way for her to hear because Isa 55:11 "My word, which comes from my mouth, is like the rain and snow. It will not come back to me without results. It will accomplish whatever I want and achieve whatever I send it to do." (GW) God's Word has many promises and He does not lie.

You are in my prayers. Yes I agree with your husband, it does seem like the enemy has stepped up attacks on families but we know that God is greater. For the recent Feast of Tabernacles, we prayed Num 6:24-26: "The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace." The Lord has the answer to everything. -

This is the Biblical reference to my earlier post about talking with a couple of people who have similar experiences and can offer their insight as well. Pro 11:14 "Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety."

Not sinning is a standard we strive to achieve knowing that we won't be able to accomplish yet not using it as an excuse to sin. As the above poster provided - all have sinned and come short yet 1Co 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

God wants you to have life and to have it more abundantly. Have you had a chance to dedicate your house? Deu 20:5 says: "And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it." For us, we walked into each room and around the property to dedicate our house. In relationship to anxiety, find scriptures that are meaningful to you and focus on them. One friend says Psa 91 daily while he's in Iraq. But that chapter is all of God's people and contains great promises - Psalm 91:4

though I understand your post - wondering how prophets are expected to pay their bills? What makes them any different than the missionary, pastor, music director, etc.?

tah - sorry communication problem - I believe in the power of prayer so much that it concerns me when people pray - "at any cost" as well as other prayers that are said. Some Christians pray whatever they want to happen and pray in Jesus' name. Some people say they pray for the other person's good. But only God knows all the "what-ifs." Some people ask God how they're to pray so they'll pray God's will. Otherwise, aren't we expecting an answer after we pray but not before? Of course, that requires that we believe God still "speaks" today which some people don't believe (even though the scripture says God doesn't change) and that's their choice. It does require listening - still working on that myself. Some supporting scriptures: Rom 8:14 "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Exodus 20:7 (NIV)

just another example of God moving in our lives Psalm 37:23, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way."
-
People pray about which church to attend but usually don't pray whether they should leave or not IMO. At that point, we've gotten our eyes on people and ourselves - upholding what we think instead of focusing on God. We need to know the Lord's will in each case - "Psa 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way." Deut 5:32

'tah's posted: "I will ask the Lord to "do whatever it takes"... And I trust He will do just that .. tah, all jokes aside, please don't pray for me.

How have Christians accepted the world's point of
terter replied to terter's topic in General Discussion
Yeah Lady Raven - managing the money such as - Promises of freedom provided by having more debt, credit cards, loans, minimum monthly payments, etc. versus Romans 13:8 -
HOw have Christians accepted the world's point of view versus living by what the scriptures say?
