  1. Not in todays society. I was just reading Georges post about this being a Christian board, and that we shouldn't get too wrapped up in secular matters, and he is right. I have got a bit carried away with politics, and I am going to try to turn over a new leaf and let it drop and get back to God's work. But first, in answer to your question: No, we can never elect one man who can do all of that. He doesn't have the power. The president is our country's manager, but congress and the senate run the country. Anything the president may want to do has to gain the approval of the congress and the senate. Which is good. Otherwise we could inadvertently elect a dictator. Each presidential candidate hopes his party is going to get more members elected than the other party, which will give him some power if the members of the house and senate who belong to his party support him. Each party assumes that the other party is going to oppose everything they try to do, which is about the way that usually works out. If you watched the last state of the union address you may remember all of the gentlemen who sat there scowling while the president told us what the government had accomplished. They had opposed most of the things our government did. We tend to blame the president for the shortcomings of government, but without the full co-operation of both houses he can't do much. So the blame should be spread around a bit. Our present president is a man of tremendous courage. He had not been president more than 60 days when an enemy attacked one of our largest cities, killing over 3000 of our citizens. He didn't know if more of these unexpected attacks were in the works or not. He had to formulate a plan and put it into action with a green cabinet, and being largely ignorant of the workings of our government, no mean feat. He got all of those angry old men of both houses, to pray for our government on national television, and he united them to protect our country. So you never know, the man you are looking for may just be completing his last term. If we are to bring our country back to the values we cherish, we are going to have to start at the grass roots, and look carefully at each candidate, and see if he supports what we believe in. We should never support someone just because he may get more done for our state, at the expense of our country. We should be sure he has the right stuff.
  2. When we are saved we surrender our life to Jesus, and in return we receive eternal life.
  3. I agree Elkie. Good post. Read the Word, and be rewarded.
  4. I am sure there are other things you can do, but one thing is for our government to buy dollars on the currency markets. It reduces the supply of dollars and drives the price up. That causes the currency speculators who are selling the dollar "short" to lose money and discourages that practice. Newt Gingrich has an interesting speech on U Tube where he proposes selling oil from our petroleum reserve at a lower price to stop petroleum speculation.
  5. Hi, The AFA has an email asking every one to write their senators and congressmen and ask them to work on energy independence. I will provide the link below, it saves a bit of research. I think they said almost 700,000 people have sent emails to their elected officials, with their goal being one million people. I don't know why only conservative organizations are interested in promoting energy independence. Perhaps the liberals have convinced everyone else to give up and accept the high prices? Well at any rate as a Christian you know that with God's help we can do anything. Write your elected officials and tell them you want them working on energy independence. http://capwiz.com/afanet/dbq/officials/
  6. I agree, that is really interesting. Why indeed don't they teach it in school.
  7. Jesus spoke about the end times:
  8. The Bible has always been under constant attack. There is no shortage of people who will be glad to tell you that the Bible is wrong about this or that, and not being scholars it is hard for us to refute such a charge, even though we know it is false. Read it every day, let it seep into your soul, and be grateful that you have it. Nothing else can bring you such comfort, or such a sense of security. Guard the word in the recesses of your heart and just ignore all the idle chatter. Remember that after being attacked for thousands of years no one has been able to discredit even one book. Instead, as time passes, even more of it is proven to be accurate by archeology. No other book can compare to your Bible.
  9. Hi, Our Bible is a translation from the original Hebrew, and the Greek texts passed on by the church fathers of the first century after Jesus death and resurrection. Both are the word of God passed down to the various authors. The Hebrew bible was written on scrolls, which wore out and were replaced from time to time. The Hebrew scribes had a system of counting every character and even punctuation marks to avoid mistakes. So the accuracy of the original was truly remarkable. Most of the places and names in the Bible have been verified by the historical records of other nations, and also by archeology. One Bible teacher said that the Bible is the record of one man's family, and that family's interaction with God. Of course he was referring to Adam's family. The Bible is the most remarkable book in existence. When you read it and think about what you have read, you know it is true.
  10. The apostle Paul tells us that before the law there was no sin. Then came the law, which could not save us, it only convicted us and showed us our sins. No one could live a life free from sin in order to be saved by the law. Jesus came in order to become the perfect sacrifice, that through his death and resurrection, anyone who accepted him as savior might also be saved and resurrected into eternal life. Jesus also preached to the captives, those who had died under the law, that they too might have the same salvation as us. We are saved by grace, through Jesus' sacrifice, not by obedience to the law. Grace has freed us from the law. God did all of this in order that we might live and not suffer eternal damnation.
  11. That is really impressive!
  12. That would be.... everyone? Yes; every single incumbent should be voted out if they have not addressed the most important issue of this decade by election time. They are there at our pleasure. If they don't do their job....throw them out and make them work for a living. When the environmentalists have to park their Suv and jump on the old 10 speed to get to work they may even have a change of heart.
  13. I agree with that article. The only politicians I have even heard mention energy are Schumer of NY, and Mel Martinez of Florida. You would think this would be the hottest campaign issue around but all you hear on this issue is silence. We need a national policy to free us from foreign oil. There probably isn't a single solution to this problem. It will probably take everything we can muster, but even if it takes trillions and trillions to do it, we would be paying all of that money to ourselves, not some middle eastern potentate. Our founding fathers never considered that there would be such a thing as a career politician. They figured all the senators and congressmen would serve one term and then go back to doing whatever they did for a living. That was why it was called serving your country, it was a sacrifice. We need to thin the ranks of career politicians and get some new blood in there. We need some people who really will serve their country. When election time comes we should vote out the guys who aren't working to solve this problem.

    Oil

we'd better enjoy it. some say we'll reach $10 a gallon before too long. on the bright side, others say we'll reach the end of using fossil fuels of all types within about 10 years. The best part is Jesus is coming to take us away from all this. There are 55 gallons in a barrel of oil. The price of that barrel is approaching $130.00. The price of gasolene is directly linked to the price of crude oil, when crude oil goes up gasolene goes up as well. Many things in our economy are also produced from petroleum products, plastics, chemicals, asphalt for new highways, and many other things. Diesel fuel is also produced from oil. and almost everything is transported by trucks which burn diesel fuel. So the price of oil is reflected in everything we buy. The price of oil is not entirely determined by supply and demand. Speculation has also driven up the price of oil. Who are the speculators? If wheat farmers and hog farmers sell contracts on the commodity market to protect their profits, don't you imagine oil producers do the same? The wheat farmer sells a contract to deliver a certain amount of wheat on a future date for a guaranteed price. If the actual price of wheat on that date is higher the farmer has sacrificed part of his profit for the price guarantee, if it is lower he has made a bit more. The farmer delivers his product to complete his part of the contract. Someone must be willing to buy the original contract. People who use wheat to produce other products like bread, buy these contracts. If the actual price of wheat is lower when the contract matures, he has saved money. If it is higher, the price guarantee has cost him some money. So there is a useful purpose in commodity speculation, it can guarantee that the farmer or other producer will make a profit from the work and expense he puts into his product, and on the other hand it protects manufacturers from unexpected increases in prices. There are pure speculators also, who do not have a product to deliver, and who do not intend to take delivery of that product for any reason. They buy or sell these contracts only in the hopes of making a profit. A speculator who has a majority of the product for sale is said to have cornered the market. He alone can determine the price. Eventually he will have to make good on his contracts so he had better have the product to deliver if the market goes down. The oil producing countries do. Our country needs a co-ordinated energy policy to protect us from artificially inflated prices We are exporting our nations wealth to the middle east. We need a national energy policy that will strive to gain energy self suffiency for our country, and free us from this drain on our economy. What can we do about this as individuals? Plenty. Write your congressman or senator and tell them you want a national energy policy this election cycle.
