  1. Welcome to the entitlement generation
  2. There is an issue I am dealing with now, and I think it relates directly to this topic, so I am going to post it (hope I don't sidetrack your thread). First off I want to make something clear, this is not a blanket statement and in no way applies to all members of any one gender, so please do not take offense. I am currently experiencing hostility from someone regarding a baby shower for my niece. This individual requests that I attend this baby shower with them, despite the fact I was not invited on the invitation. Now, first off, I have absolutely no interest in baby showers, I am a male after all, and sorry, but I don't get all gushy over babies. In my generation it was never expected or even thought of for men to attend such things, so I am a bit perplexed by it to begin with. I did not even attend my own childs baby shower, except of course to make an appearance near the end of it, but really that was so I could do my manly duties of helping to load and carry all of the gifts. Secondly, wouldn't it be wrong of me to go somewhere uninvited, I mean, there is a reason people R.S.V.P. for these things isn't there? If everyone brought along an extra person, would that not complicate things for those hosting it? Over the course of my life I have witnessed a tearing down of masculinity, and it is being done systematically, and seems to be largely in part to the attitude of certain females. I know that in my former marriage, this was a daily thing, my ex-wife was determined to "wear the pants" so to speak, but I also see this same thing within others relationships as well. In most marriages that I know personally, the women handle the finances, the women make all the plans for the family as far as vacations, outings, or even a simple date with their spouse. If the man disagrees, he is punished (not going into specifics on this one), so for the most part, men have become compliant. What I ask myself is, what on earth is wrong with men, and what are they thinking? Are there any men out there like me, who do not comply to threats, but stand independently on their own thoughts? Also, is this really what women want? Because given the marital woes of society, this model is clearly fatally flawed. My understanding of scripture is that men are to be the head of the household, the leader of the family, and I am not talking about being a tyrant, this is something anyone who knows me would never describe as one of my attributes. My ex-wife's thoughts and feelings were always something I took into consideration, but feelings are not something I use to navigate through life or govern my decisions. I think the emotional differences between the two genders are precisely why God established the marriage model in the manner He did. At any rate, as I read this thread I felt compelled to share what I am dealing with and have dealt with, and am curious to see the responses, or if anyone else sees things in a similar fashion. Again, for the record, I am in no way generalizing or stating that these things apply to all women or men, because I know for certain that they do not. I know of many good, solid marriages that follow the model I believe scripture teaches us, so please refrain from beating me up too badly and consider the matter before responding based on feelings. God bless.
  3. I think Jesus knew Herod's heart, and that Herod had no love for truth, or for the Father.
  4. thanks for sharing, God bless
  5. I think we are all seeing this wave, and it will most likely only get worse. The enemy knows how to attack, and one way is to have someone else attempt to shake your faith by telling you how you are doing it all wrong, because you read from the wrong version of the bible, or don't observe the sabbath, etc.
  6. Baptism by water is not a requirement according to scripture, obviously though we are baptised with the Holy Spirit upon accepting Christ which is necessary for salvation.
  7. I wear a cross that I haven't removed but a few times in my life, I see nothing wrong with it, in fact, it often leads to witnessing opportunities with others.
  8. Thanks JTC, has been awhile since i read my NIV, but i was questioning that as well, because mine did not give credit to anyone other than David either according to my recollection, just hadn't found the time to research and reply yet.
  9. You don't feel this is a dig toward my belief? "When I read about those who worry about this, I often wonder if they investigate every single purchase they make to ensure that no portion of their money would go to any ungodly purpose? If this is the case, and they do, their house must be sparse and their cupboards empty". It's mocking me plain and simple, yet here you are defending those who constantly attack me. In fact, I have had several barbs thrown my way, I just sit there and take it politely, play nice, smile and continue on as if nothing was said. No, I do not believe it was a dig at you, I think it was a good point. As I stated to you now on several occasions, zondervan also publishes the kjv, so what bible does that leave to read? This is just another way of making that same point by expanding on the same premise, not a dig.
  10. Wise words spoken OneLight. Perhapse, those very cupboards even. Designed by someone who we would not agree with about their lifestyle. At times we can become afraid of our own shadow. Lets spend our time in a wise way. Thank you. I think it would be prudent to get our own household in order as well before we start looking outward. I think the Lord would see Wisdom in that But, let's agree to disagree and move on. Up, I think you are missing the point. If you feel convicted on the matter, then by all means do as the Lord tells you, deal with your own "house". If God has not convicted someone else on this, then maybe you should assume their house is in order. It would appear to me that you are implying there is something wrong with their walk with God, and that is not your call to make. Christians are called to go out and preach the gospel, our fellowship should be edifying, and nothing about this is edifying, it is more along the lines of finger pointing.
  11. If you purchase a Bible from Zondervan publishing, you are indirectly supporting porn and the Satanic Bible. No Bible bashing here, just bashing the publisher I am not saying don't buy it, I am saying I won't buy one. Totally up to you what Bible you want to buy. I would strongly discourage it, particularly if you are going to do battle in any type of "deliverance" ministry. It's like the United Way, if you support the United Way you are indirectly supporting abortion. Now, if you are ok with that, do it. Same thing witnessing to someone, you can tell them the Plan of Salvation, about God, Jesus, the whole works, a lot times people will accept it, most times they won't. Same thing here, I am but a messeger, do with the information as you see fit. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord P.S. FYI...I would suggest you use a capitol "S" when referring to Satan. They also offer a KJV bible, so exactly what bible does that leave for anyone to read?
  12. What we can never forget is that God is holy. When Jesus took on all of the sin from the garden of eden until the end of time, it is unimaginable at how this grieved the Father, to look upon all of it.
  13. Until an apology is made to the couple, this means nothing, more like playing to public opinion than displaying sincerity, very sad.
  14. There is no doubt that a christian can sin, which is committing an evil act, but I find it difficult to think of part of the body of Christ as evil. As christians, are we not ourselves referred to in such a manner? I have always understood this particular verse to apply to non-believers. Just my opinion, but here is some more food for thought. John 10:25-30 New International Version (NIV) 25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” 1 Peter 4:1-6 New International Version (NIV) Living for God 4 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. 2 As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. 3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. 4 They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you. 5 But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
  15. I agree, I do not see that verse as a means for a formula.
  16. I think that a furtherance of this would be to say that God created everything. Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Time is part of everything, so God created time. God is not bound by His creation so God is not bound by time. In this context it's incredibly difficult for me to take 2 Peter 3:8 literally and it's my opinion that it's likely an elucidation to God's complete Sovereignty over His creation, specifically with regards to the passage of time, in a manner that's easier for humans to digest. Thank you for clarifying what I was trying to say, my original choice of words was not the best.
  17. Wouldn't it have been perfectly simply for God if he had wanted to say "that time has no meaning to God" that he had inspired Peter to write "time has no meaning to God" instead that what is actually written? Yes it would have, and to clarify and correct my poor choice of words originally, I believe everything has meaning to God, including time, because He created it, but He is not limited by anything that He created.
  18. I understand what you are saying about time I think God is time for he created it. God is the beginning and the end. I think God does have a time table for example, No one knows the day nor hour of Christ's return except the Father. God has a set time for everything don't you think? For there is a time for every thing to be done and in God's time he will bring to pass his word. The time of the tribulation God will cause it to happen at the appointed time he has set for it to happen. God does things like when the time comes he will create a new heaven and a new earth. I can also see that mankind is in God's time we have limited time he gave to us on this earth but he doesn't. For God's time is everlasting with no end forever and forever. God has created everything in HIS time. Everthing that exists works according to his time. You've said the point of the verse is to say that time has no meaning to God. But I kinda believe that time does have meaning to God. In that.when it comes to creating things. I just don't think God will stop the creating things throughout eternity. Those things will all be created in the future in his time according to whatever he wants to create. God will just speak it into existance and then call it good. I know time with God is never ending for it will last for all eternity. But I tend to believe time does have meaning to God just thoughts and opinions. Yes, I agree with what you are saying, my choice of words were not well thought out. I believe that as the creator, everything He has created holds meaning, what I should have said is that God is not restrained by time because He created time.
  19. I believe the point of that verse is to say that time has no meaning to God, as in, He was and always is, and can move through time at His will, with no restraints.
  20. So sorry for what you have been through, I can relate, although my ex did indeed divorce me and marry another man, so I am in a bit different place than you are now. I will pray for you and your wife, and that God's will be done in both of your lives. Thank you for sharing, God bless
  21. Very nice piece of work, my compliments to your dad jacob.
