LOL, RG, you may annoy me a lot of times, but i appreciate the fact that you're making me laugh... i'll be able to go to church with a happy attitude, even if my own husband's a major grump this morning! (but he'd better hurry and get out of the shower or i'll miss my morning donut and the whole church will hear me rumbling.)

Personally, I think the "cigarette" tax is just the beginning. It's the whole redistribution of wealth concept. LOL, if smoking is addictive, then get smokers to pay higher taxes which get paid into the federal and state governments thus helping the bailouts.

This is just the beginning. IMHO.

nice use of data RG, but it didn't even address the question i asked of you, or the point i was making regarding personal freedoms as they pertain to legal activities.

mizzdy, thank you... seems a lot of people just brushed right past the economic ruin that results in such laws, maybe since you brought it up, people will consider that point!

you ask for factual evidence and logic, when you get it your dismiss it.

We are a community in this country. We have all sorts of laws that restrict personal freedoms if they are good for the community as a whole. As a Representative Republic we make laws that are good for the whole, sometimes at the price of the individual.

For all the increases in taxes on cigs the smoking rate is now staying pretty steady at about

I always thought that was funny - up until a few years ago that terminology was on Virginia Code of Taxation books... It's called something else now...but I kinda liked the "sin" tax... :45:
