Ever since I was a teenager I have always love the way of the Amish (and other Old Order Groups). The food they cook is delicious, they all work hard (II Thessalonians 3:10; Colossians 3:23-24). I also love seeing the horse and carriage, I admire their dress style (ultraconservative) just overall I like their simplicity, I read as much information about the Amish and other Anabaptist groups (Brethren, Hutterites, Mennonites etc.) as I can.

But I cannot find information of how they believe concerning, our salvation through Jesus Christ. Does anyone know how they believe one receive Salvation?

I, too, have always been interested in the Amish ways. I live in a community where the Mennonites have settled and I do appreciate them. Here is a website I found a few days ago that might be of interest to you: http://www.jamesportmo.com/

It talks some about their beliefs. It's not too far from where I live and my husband and I will probably take a trip there one of these days. I know there is another group even closer to us. Whenever we go to the "big city" to do shopping we see signs along the freeway cautioning that there may buggies on the shoulder, and we do see the quite often.

You've been there! Wow. It is quite a drive for us so when we go it will be an overnight trip. Is it on the Missouri River? Since it is Jamesport we wondered.

No it about an hour drive from the Missouri River, as I cross the Missouri River coming from Kansas. If you know where Chillicothe is it about a 30 minute drive from it. Jamesport is Northeast of Chillicothe. The small towns around Jamesport seem a little rundown but Jamesport I thought was beautiful. Hope you and your husband, enjoy your trip.

Blessings brother. I did some studying and looking up about the Amish belief and found this website...

http://www.gotquestions.org/Amish-beliefs.html

I admire and respect them for their strength and stamina for they do live a hard life. This site explains their beliefs as far as salvation and Jesus. Hope it answers your questions.

In His Loving Hands,

My brother and his family of his wife and ten children, are part of the Mennonite church in Eastern Washington. It is quite a process to become one if you were not born into it. They spent several years on their farm under a microscope by the church to make sure they were real in their faith. they are very very simple people. they live on what they grow or make with their hands. They go to school until about 8th grade at the Mennonite school, and they are all home schooled as well and learn a trade such as carpentry, sewing, and of course cooking usually in their hometown bakery. The woman sew the most amazing dresses and table cloths, scrap books etc... Their weddings and funerals have no flowers and are very simple. Nothing like our weddings... The families usually have enough land to build the couple a house and start their farm on. They are the "generational Mennonites"... passing it on from one generation to another etc. My family was a "first generation Mennonite" family They have the same beliefs concerning salvation as we (Pentecostal) do. They believe you can only get to heaven thru the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your personal savior. (John 14:6) and (Gal 2:20) They believe in "lifestyle Evangelism". They are very quiet about their faith, except when asked, because they believe you should Live it not just talk it! They are extremely loving, forgiving people. You can look up on Google the death of the five Schrock children in Spokane, Washington and see exactly how forgiving they are. That is a family that is very close to ours. When I traveled home several years ago, I went to their church, thinking I would stick out like a sore thumb with my jewelry and make-up and colorful dress compared to their basic cape dresses, It was right the opposite! I was loved and welcomes and never once felt out of place! The men sit on one side of the church, the woman sit on the other, which is different than ours, and my nephew blew a pitch pipe to start the beautiful hymns without instruments... which is also different from our church. The harmony was angelic... I noticed all the men shook hands and greeted each other with a holy kiss on the cheek,(Romans 16:16), of course none of the woman partook in that for obvious reasons. I love them all, I wish I did not have the ugly black mark of a divorce or I would have been one I'm sure. Their is absolutely NO DIVORCE in the Mennonite church. That is grounds to be dismissed or what we would say as "excommunicated" from the church. I miss my ultraconservative family, and wish we were not 2500 miles away. They wore the white caps and came from the eastern Mennonite rules that were just a tad under the true dutch Amish. The only difference between them and the Amish was my brother has motorize cars and electricity. I'm located in the south where there are more black cap, which are every liberal compared to the white caps. they black caps believe in letting their woman go to college and work outside the home, etc. they were small earrings and hairspray in their hair. But, they are also very loving and gentle people and some of their children even attend public schools. I think the church decides the dress types, fabrics etc for their woman and the men always are adorned in long sleeves at my brothers church, again in the south , maybe it's due to climate, the men wear short sleeves. they are extremely honest business people and practice what they preach... Again, I would love to be part of it, but I treasure the cookbooks my nieces and sister-in-law send me, and enjoy their homemade cards and gifts. I hope this was not too boring and gave you a Little insight. This is my personal experience with them, I'm sure their is more, I've read several Mennonite books or teachings on Menno Simons, the Anabaptist that came from Europe.

Living in Pa my whole life, being a farmer most of my life, I have dealt many times with the Amish. To understand them is simple, the Amish don't use worldly possessions that they feel they don't need to live and they don't get involved in worldly events, they feel the bible tells them to live that way and this prepares them to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Lots of people think this is foolish thinking, but I don't. I feel this is their commitment to God, who am I to judge them.

Heck if a man feels that he must stand on his head 10 minutes a day in order to go to Heaven, that's his commitment to God, go for it.

Hi.

I mean no disrespect to the Amish bretheren but to be under the gun like what has been said seems wrong?;

"It is quite a process to become one if you were not born into it. They spent several years on their farm under a microscope by the church to make sure they were real in their faith." [/quopte].

Jesus never required any such scrutiniy for entry into His Eternal Life?

What about the repentant sinner next to Jesus?

"And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:42-43).

There seems to me to be no need to be spending several years under a microscope to make sure anyone's faith is real?

Haz.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
