hi everyone,

I am finally done with living a hypocritical life... and i want to get really close to God. I want to know His will, but somehow they do not pop out and tell me 'do this or do that' in bright neon lights.

So, now that I am starting my Christian life, please tell me what to do, how do I be a christian?

Please tell me a few pointers, like read the Bible etc.

There is absolutely nothing you can do, as John 6:44 testifies, "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." But it appears that God is working in your life. There are only two things you can do, as I see it: 1) respond to Him by reading the Bible. Word of caution, though, do not read the Bible as if it were just another book. Close your eyes and humbly admit that you know nothing of Him, but you want to learn. Humbly ask him to open your eyes and teach you. 2) You can do as most do and simply go on with your life, ignoring His tugs.

Another suggestion is to check out these two web sites, www.familyradio.com and www.ebiblefellowship.com. There is tons of information there, all taken from the Bible. However, you probably will not like what you see there. They teach what the Bible truly says, not what some theologian or church teaches. The Bible is the only authority on this planet and not just someone else's opinion. Check them out. If you don't like what you see, hear and read there, then pay them no mind.

"My sheep hear my voice and they follow me". If you are not hearing His voice then you need to think again of whether you are actually His sheep. If you want to know what is to truly be His sheep Jesus said "unless you love me more than your mother, father, brother yes even your OWN life you are not fit to be my disciple". Only 100% submission to follow Jesus will give you that circumcised heart....then you will hear him, I gaurentee it!

Praise God Gerda that you made the committment to follow fully after our Lord and Savior.

As for knowing the will of God, you won't have big neon signs pop out at you. I have found after 32 years as a christian it's a trial and error process, but it does get better I promise. The closer you get to the Lord the clearer His voice becomes in the muddle of our own minds.

Begin reading the Bible, the Gosples......Matthew, Mark, Luke, John.......I have heard others wiser than me suggest starting with John.

And please find a Christ centered church where you can go and learn.

Also continuing here at Worthy, there some really good teachers here where you can learn and grow.

And last but not least pray....pray....pray. Prayer is your life line and it will keep your mind and spirit centered.

If there is anything you need help with or prayer for there are many here waiting and willing to help you.

God bless you

 Praise the Lord!

Here's some pointers (in no particular order):

1. Read the Bible every day.

There are different ways you can do this - Bible in a year programs, one or more Psalms and one Proverbs and one New Testament chapter...or variation on that, start at the beginning and read 3 chapters a day, etc. The point is that you won't now the instructions if you don't read them, right? Or you won't know God if you don't read the testimony about Him.

2. Daily prayer

Now prayer doesn't have to be a "once a day" thing to do, it should be a lifestyle. Imagine the Lord with you 24/7 and communicate with Him as such. But it is good to have a disciplined prayer time as well. Prayer isn't just petitions, it is also thanking Him, worshipping Him, sharing your heart with Him, quoting Scripture as a prayer, etc.

3. Obedience

When you read a command in the Bible (i.e. do not covet), make an effort to put it into practice. We're not always perfect on these, but make the effort. Ask the Lord for help in this as well.

4. Praise and worship

Buy some Christian CD's or listen to Christian radio and let those songs fill your spirit rather than "secular" music.

If you aren't musically inclined, having praise and worship CD's and singing along with them help led you in worship

Here is an example -- Watch what this young man does (you can do this at home).

5. Fellowship

You need to have personal interraction with fellow believers. It can be a church or a Bible study or prayer group that meets regularly. But you need the fellowship of the Believers and spiritual mentorship.

The Lord bless you on this new journey!

Study your Bible. Measure all things by what is taught there. If you know what God expects from what His word says you can have guidelines. Yes, a Christ centered Bibe believing church is important. But know the Bible so you can tell if your church is truly Christ centered.

Don't beat yourself up when you fail, but pray and go forward.

Give him your life. That might be something you've already done (and it might sound like a no brainer) but it's really important.

(PS if that might be a bit much at the moment because you don't really feel like you know him well enough to trust him with the whole thing yet - give him the bits you feel comfortable with and watch him in action.) Ask him to show you where sin is in your life and why it's wrong and how it hurts people. He'll give you what you can handle and take you on a journey.

It's one all christians go on when they start truly seeking.

GerdaHannah, I'm so excited for you!! :taped:

Welcome to the large Family Of God!!

Grab a Bible and read it every day. Starting in the New Testament, Matthew is fine. Start off a little at a time and pray to God for guidance from the Holy Spirit as you read - by pray I mean just talk to Him how you would a close friend or close family member - If that is with your eyes open or closed, so be it - it doesn't matter. God is looking for people to worship Him in Truth, not pretense..

As someone has already said - be obedient to His Word. The Scriptures are there for a reason - to be accepted, digested and used through your thoughts and actions/words -

As you get closer to God - and it will happen if you are willing to let the Holy Spirit guide and mould you - you will "know" when the Holy Spirit is prompting you to do/say something - you will get a "pressing" feeling about a particular thing, or even an urgent feeling that won't go away - also if you do wrong - the Holy Spirit will let you know about it too- you will feel grieved as the Holy Spirit will be grieved...trust me, you will be 'aware" of these things.

God Bless on your wonderful journey with Jesus. :whistling:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
