The news states that she will go into state custody until things are worked out. I wonder how this will be worked out if the father really does hold to his beliefs?

I do hope you are wrong. She is 17 and is at an age that the state can grant her the right to be an adult. If they do that, then she can live whereever she wishes, if they would grant her citizenship.

I hope, and pray, that I am wrong about what will happen to her if her parents follow strict islamic law.

she's a teenager morning glory. they blow things out of proportion. she's probably afraid they'll kill her for having told all these silly lies about her family to justify her running away in the first place. yes, she's a christian. but she's a CHILD! let's not forget that! kids do stoopid things. like when a teenage girl gets knocked up and then wants an abortion because she knows her father will kill her or beat her to a bloody pulp. you know, there is a whole set of laws that allow teenagers to get abortions without parental notification because little girls exaggerate and are so full of drama that the world has to bow to their fantasy that daddy will kill them.... all the while knowing that in most cases, the word "kill" is interchangeable with "lecture".

SHE DID NOT HITCHHIKE! she got a ride to the bus station and hopped on a bus with a ticket paid for by someone she'd never even met who lived in orlando. i don't know if SHE was avoiding a lecture, i don't know what her motives were. i was using pregnant teens as an analogy. what i DO know is that she has lied time and time again to the cops and everyone else involved, and i sincerely believe she knew full well her parents would not kill her.

jen, i have known you forever, and consider you a dear friend. but you're exasperating me. the very fact that they support her becoming a cheerleader is an example of their permissiveness. and when i say permissive, i am talking about by muslim standards, not american.

now if you want to discuss this any further with me, then go do your homework. i will not continue to talk to you about it until you are willing to look at the documented FACTS. i know i've never gotten mad at you before, but i'm mad now jen, because i've never seen you so adamently and emotionally put blinders on.
