Franklin Graham Visits N. Korea to Deliver Aid

CBNNews.com

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Franklin Graham arrived in North Korea Tuesday to deliver food and other aid to the impoverished communist nation.

Graham is the head of the Christian relief ministry Samaritan's Purse.

He will be meeting with North Korean officials to discuss a new dental center in Pyongyang and he'll visit a hospital that Samaritan's Purse helps support.

The Samaritan's Purse ministry has sent more than $10 million in aid to North Korea since 1997.

Graham is the first high-profile representative of a non-government organization to visit the country after North Korea shut down a food distribution program earlier this year.

In March, North Korea ordered workers from five U.S. aid organizations to leave the country.

North Korea is currently being ostracized by the international community for its pursuit of nuclear weapons. On Monday, it test-fired several short-range missiles.

According to Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency, Graham said he hoped his visit would "play the role of a bridge for better relations" between the U.S. and North Korea.

Those people have suffered under that evil regime for so long. God Bless him in this mission of mercy.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the idea that Franklin Graham is going to N. Korea. Three years ago, he went to China and created quite a controversary and interference with his statements with the persecuted Chinese House Church. As much as I used to admire Franklin Graham for his good Christian deeds, he seems to be going politically correct and ecuminical. Because the Gospel of Christ is illegal in China, Graham advocates complying with the government and refrain from taking it to the people during the Olympics. ]The persecuted House Church is way ahead of Franklyn Graham and they really didn't need his sticking his nose in, nor does the persecuted church in N. Korea, both of which have millions of converts without Graham, which continues to grow daily

The son of Billy Graham has been preaching and meeting with government officials in China -- and he created somewhat of a storm in recent comments to Chinese press.

While in Beijing, evangelist Franklin Graham told Chinese reporters he is opposed to missionary work during the Olympic Games this summer in Beijing. Some Christian groups have announced plans to proselytize during the Games in August -- but Graham, recognizing that Chinese law prohibits such actions, said he would not encourage anything illegal. I completely agree. US and S.Korea give millions of dollars to N.Korea to feed its people yet N.Korea hordes the money and food and only gives it to his military. Graham is only trying to make the news and is doing more harm then any, as you have already seen. Graham should be speak out against how N.Korea is mistreating the underground Christians and it citizens, yet he goes there and treats Kim Jong Il as a pal and a good friend.

Well I'm a little confused about your reaction.

F. Graham is the head of Samaritans purse, which has sent over 10 million dollars in aid since 1997, and his visit was to discuss a new dental center and to hopefully rebuild the bridge of relations between NK and the rest of the world....the article said most of the other relief organizations had be kicked out.

So it seems to me that all he is doing right now is trying to get a better dental clinic installed and open up the door so the other relief agencies can get back in....I don't see how you equate this with F. Graham becoming politically correct.

As far as China is concerned, well F. Graham was on the ground there 3 years ago and I wasn't, so I'm going to have to trust that he did what he thought best at the time. I'm sure if you were to write him a letter asking why he took that position , I'm sure he would answer you.

Having read about in the past what the Chinese communists are capable of, maybe F. Graham felt it the wiser course of action not to do anything that would endanger what the local Christians were doing and had accomplished.

Fact is, all I saw him to say was that he would respect the law of the land, nothing more; and the bible cautions us to have respect for the authorities over the land does it not??

Anyway, I'm glad he went to NK.

Blessings Hunterpoet:

The article I posted explains it in full how the "real" church, or the underground church in China feels about Graham and his political correctness. The rest of the article says the following, and I agree with Bob Fu and the China House Church leaders, who are from the persecuted church in China, who says Jesus is Lord over His church, and not the government. The western church, especially here in America has become too politically correct, apostate, and watered down and doesn't know the difference for the most part and lets the government lead it around by the nose for fear of persecution and loss of tax exempt status by the government; therefore, it refrains from speaking out on politically hot topics such as politically immoral candidates, candidates that support abortion from the pulpit,and the like, something the persecuted church in China will not do or allow, which renders the church useless.

~~~
Bob Fu heads the China Aid Association. "The Chinese government leaders and also the [government-sanctioned] Three-Self Patriotic movement leaders have spoken publicly to the media that the foreign evangelistic effort in China during the Olympics is not welcome and will not be tolerated," notes Fu.
But the house church leadership -- the independent, underground church movement -- thinks differently. According to Fu, it is a matter of who heads the church. And it is certainly not the government, he says.
"To the house church leaders, it's an issue of the lordship of Christ to the church," Fu offers. "And if the church ceases to do evangelism, is it the true church? It's a big question."
It is against the law to evangelize outside church buildings in China, and no one can legally be baptized unless they are at least 18 years old. And according to Fu, there is more. "You are not allowed even to have fellowship with foreign Christian leaders without explicit approval from the Communist Party's religious affairs bureau," he explains.
Fu feels like the situation will not change until the government understands that Jesus is the head of the church.
Well, the whole China thing was 3 years ago, correct.
As far as I can tell, this was a one time incident and I've heard nothing since about F. Graham to make me think that he is more interested in politics, unless of course you think his trip to NK was totally political, but I didn't get that from the article posted.
I guess I just don't understand why you came out so strongly against F. Graham. He certainly doesn't seem to be in the habit of sticking his nose into world affairs.
I just think maybe your being a little too hard on the guy.
Hunter,
If he can do any good whatsoever for people who are suffering, I think it's a good idea. God Bless any one who tries to help those who are so oppressed. Blessings!!
Well, I don't really think I was being hard on Franklin Graham, just being honest.
I have given Franklin Graham the benefit of doubt, but then I read about other things he has been doing of late, and it really does look as if he is getting himself involved with the politically correct elites, and fore saking the Gospel of repentence through God's grace by the redemptive blood of Jesus Christ, and ecuminism, or bringing all "religions" together under one roof for "works" and politics which is not biblical and in fact is another gospel.     • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.
      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.
      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.
      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.
      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”
    • Understanding the Enemy!
      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!
      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.
      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,
      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.
      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!
    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,
      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.
      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."
      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
