One Reason To 'Believe' In 'Macroevolution'

The best reason for this is the simple and basic fact that 'macroevolution' (defined as "evolution happening on a large scale, e.g. at or above the level of species") has already been directly observed and documented dozens (if not hundreds) of times in the wild and in the laboratory.

Had a look at all the links...all I can find is evidence that most of us here would agree on...ie speciation, the way certain animals can adapt and change within certain limits within their species...no problemo. This is a far cry from trying to prove or give evidence that one separate species evolved into another completely separate species. Put a fish in a cave with no light and it will lose the use of its eyes...no big surprise.

Horizoneast, I was not talking about birds being descended from theropod dinosaurs, I was simply talking about 'macroevolution' in general, and how when it is defined properly and has the meaning scientists use for it, it has definitely been observed. Regarding bird evolution I can not be bothered to discuss that with you as debates on that topic just go round in circles. Your tactics are always the same;

- Demand 'proof' (even after being told such a thing is meaningless in science, which deals with EVIDENCE)

- Never actually define what you would accept as evidence

- When presented with someone willing to discuss what is considered to be evidence, quote mine Feduccia

- After having it explained that arguments from authority are meaningless and having more evidence presented, quote mine Storrs L. Olson.

- When someone brings up other lines of evidence linking birds and therapod dinosaurs appeal to 'common designer' (God just did it that way!) arguments

- Quote mine some more scientists; Gee, Gould, anyone else.

- Appeal to arguments made by professional science deniers (HIV and evolution) such as Jonathan Wells complaining that because Archaeopteryx can't be established as the single species from which all modern birds are descended it doesn't count as transitional

- Piltdown man

- Haeckel's embryos

- Change the subject to some other area of science you don't like such as radiometric dating and quote mine yet more scientists
