Okay... to all of you who seems to be so offended by my statement:

Just because you have the ability to discern sin in people DOES NOT MEAN you are rude or judgemental. And if you are, you are misusing your gift.

And I would like to add that I NEVER ONCE said that that a prophet has a license to be rude or judgemental. (Although a friend of mine in college thought it did.)

I totally see that in you LadyC. A prophets main ability is discerning sin in other people.

1 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, `Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. NO, it is NO ALL ABOUT YOU! I thought we got this all worked out! We are NOT called to JUDGE others' sins, unless we are WITHOUT SIN! ... since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23

I think a prophet's main ability is the willingness to go and do whatever God tell him... regardless of the task or the cost involved.

A prophet is just one who proclaims forth God's message. Jonah was a prophet, although it took him a while to "come around."

Being rude and crude is not a spiritual gift. It is a carnal trait.

The fruit of the spirit is love. And, when one shares the truth it should be done in love, yet steadfastness.

But, sometimes you can clobber someone in love. Jesus and John the Baptist both clobbered the Pharisses in love for the people. God is love, and it grieves God to see people led astray. Jesus' ultimate motivation in everything He did was love.

It all depends on your approach. A prophet is concerned with what God thinks of them, and not what man thinks of them.

Some people need to add a little grace to the truth as they share it. And, oftentimes this is missed on message boards where there is no eye or body language... and emoticons only go so far.

Written text cannot faithfully convey the attitude or full meaning of the writer, so be careful when making accusations.

This isn't pointed at anyone, it is just something I've personally learned.

it's easy to see sin in others...like if they are in an adulterous affair, if they lie, cheat, steal, judge others, gossip, etc.etc.etc...it's ALWAYS easier seeing other people's sins...it conveniently places one's focus on other people's issues/problems than focusing on our own walk with Christ. I love Jesus' words to Peter when Peter was concerned about John and the others as to who would betray Jesus... what is that to you? Follow me!" John 21:22

But most of the others seem to fall into where I have found myself over the years.

This test is just a measure of what your God-given aptitudes.  Even BC we have these aptitudes in a worldly sense.  Then, after coming to Christ He uses them for His glory... they way they were intended to be.

good, i'm with you... i just don't see 'prophet' as being a gift i posess. don't know about you one way, but if i've got it, i sure don't see it.

i looked up the definition of the gift of prophecy on another site with the same quiz, and this is how they defined it... the short version anyway:

19. Prophecy: The special ability that God gives to certain members of the Body of Christ to receive and communicate an immediate message of God to His people with authority and urgency perceived by the hearers.
