What is genuine faith? In Hebrews 11 it speaks a lot about authentic faith...which IS a strong assurance...very active and real...that a particular event will happen!! It is as good as having it....as it is the substance of the thing hoped for!

Therefore, I think it is important to remember that those of us that say that faith in Christ alone saves us, have a faith that is active. "Faith without works is dead" means that faith IS an action VERB. When I profess to believe something...I don't just go the other way and do my own thing. THIS is what scripture is talking about...a genuine faith in God shows by some form of (inner and/or outer) movement forward!! Faith backs up it's belief, and it shows!

It is also important to remember that essentially, and in reality, it is WHO we have our faith in that saves us...this is important to keep in mind so that we do not lean on our faith, but lean on God first. This is another reason why faith alone saves....because it is WHO the faith is IN.

Which also brings me to say, that even a mustard-seed size amount of faith can move mountains....and God is the Author and Finisher of our faith...so it all points back to God's abilities anyway, and not ON our great and wonderful ability to believe.

There are those that feel that the faith that saves you is different from the faith one has for everyday living after salvation...however, it is very apparent that faith is faith is faith...is faith! Heb. 3:14 "For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, then we will share in all that belongs to Christ."

There was once a man who told all the townspeople to be at the mighty gorge promptly at 5pm, because he was going to show everyone an amazing feat! When everyone arrived they saw a tightrope that was stretched from one side of the gorge to the other. The man asked everyone if they believed he could walk all the way to the otherside and back safely. Everyone cheered, "Yes, we do!" So, he went across and back safely. Then he asked, "Now, do you think I can carry this heavy log with me as I do the same thing again?" Again, everyone cheered!!! So, he picked up the good-sized log and did it. Then he asked, "Now, do you have faith that I can carry a person over and back like I did the log?" Everyone cheered loudly!!!! Then, he asked, "Any volunteers??"

In this story it illustrates what faith would be...which is a faith that would volunteer, IF indeed the individual truly did believe.

Thank you for reading!!

hi jen,

cool post. Very rightly put.

I'll take up two or three lines of your post.

It is also important to remember that essentially, and in reality, it is WHO we have our faith in that saves us...this is important to keep in mind so that we do not lean on our faith, but lean on God first. This is another reason why faith alone saves....because it is WHO the faith is IN.

So true. I believe all of us always believe in something.

We all search for happiness, even the most immoral atheist on Earth. Even he believes temporary gratification gives him happiness. So he has faith, but since he has put faith in the wrong thing, it destroys him. So what is more important that having faith is what you put your faith in. Scientists put faith in science, misers put faith in money, hollywood stars(atleast some of them) put faith in fame,so called "practical, worldly wise" people put faith in accumulating worldly treasures. But their faith is not going to save them. It is only faith in Jesus Christ that saves anybody.

I put my faith for a long long time(around 18 years) in romance believing my 'knight in shining armour' would save me and provide for me. When the person I put my faith in changed, I changed too.

Thanks so much Gerda! Yes, great thoughts!! Absolutely true. Everyone has faith actually....or we would never step foot on a plane, or even walk out of our house for that matter. We have to have some faith to survive...GOOD point!! Key is: where to put that faith!

This tight rope walker was a man right :emot-hug:

Another view of faith is in the beginning God Spoke and the ground became. How many of us walk on the ground as it of itself supports us; when in fact it is the Word of God, that is unchanging, that supports us! Love Steven

Great Story, Jenny.

I would say that the real work of faith is love.

Galatians 5:6

For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Amen Logos!!! It does take real faith to live a life of love, instead of what is familiar - the flesh and it's ways.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
