GRACE - It's more than a word, can the Bible define it?

Carl,

To interpret I Corinthians' 3:15 the way you do is improper and contrary to the science of hermeneutics. Again, to interpret it the way you do one would have to divorce it from the context in which it was given.

Paul was dealing with the carnal nature of the Brethren in Corinth. He comments on how because they are carnal, he has not been able teach them, nor they to receive, what he refers to as the

In review of all the posts given, there was not a scriptural, precept upon precept, line upon line, clarification of what grace "is."

Yet all admit it is what saves us . . . but from what????

Seems to me these should be some of the easiest questions for the the "saved" to answer.

Psm 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

Pro 4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

Pro 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Will asked, "Yet all admit it is what saves us . . . but from what?"

You answered this question correctly on Apr.3rd-

"Salvation is from SIN".

Grace is God's glory extended to us at the expense of His Son.

Grace covers sin and delivers us from it.

Grace is POWER to overcome sin, to live in righteousness, to become like Christ.

Grace is not an excuse to live a sinful life.  If a person thinks grace is a license to sin, they don't understand grace.

Now that we have determined that grace is remission of sins; what is sin?

Blindseeker,

I think you tend to complicate everything searching for specific scriptures.  The Bible outlines and explains grace throughout the scritures but it is not a dictionary.

Gen 6:8 Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

What did he find?  A way out of the flood that would destroy the whole world.

Grace is God's favor.  He favors His own and His grace saves us from destruction if we accept it.

Ok, now we're talkin!

Grace is the God-given ability through Jesus Christ to overcome the sinfulness of the world.  We are made able to overcome through the power of Jesus Christ, that was given through acceptance and belief of His life, death, and resurrection, and recognizing that if we follow His Word and become submissive to Him, we have grace that only God gives.

Romans 5:17 For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

5:20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(When sin is great, grace reigns greater, grace makes us victorious, giving us the means to overcome the temptation of sin)

1 Cor. 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

That way of escape is the "grace" that is given through belief in Jesus Christ and His Power.

Those that deny that Power of escape are explained in 2 Timothy 3:5 1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

( I can't even type fast enough to get it all written, but Blind, I hope this is what you are referring to?)

In His Love,

Suzanne

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
