Billy Ray Cyrus Scared For Daughter Miley, Says Hannah Montana 'Destroyed My Family'

Country crooner Billy Ray Cyrus blames Disney's "Hannah Montana" for his daughter Miley Cyrus' issues, angrily saying "the damn show destroyed my family," the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Blaming publicists and Miley's handlers, Cyrus gives an anguished interview in GQ's March issue, where he adds he wishes "Hannah Montana" never happened.

He tells GQ: "Every time the train went off the track ... her people, or as they say in today's news, her handlers, every time they'd put [the blame on] me ... I took it because I'm her daddy ... OK, nail me to the cross.

"I'm scared for her. She's got a lot of people around her that's putting her in a great deal of danger. I want to get her sheltered from the storm."

You'd have thought he would have learned this lesson from his own past. He's spoken out about his "achy breaky heart" days and about how dismayed he was with his career early on and how he was handeled.

Reflecting on Miley's controversial moments -- including seductive photos on the internet, pole-dancing at the Teen Choice Awards, and posing for Vanity Fair draped in a sheet -- Cyrus said he should have been stricter, and accuses her handlers of going too far to promote her, and then using him as the fall guy.

He fails to mention he was also in those Vanity Fair photos. The girl was only 15 years old.

He is her father, he could have put a stop to Hannah Montana at anytime, but he chose to ride her coat tails back into the spotlight.

The person he needs to point fingers at resides in the mirror.

yes, the situation needs prayer. but not just for miley, the parents need some serious spiritual intervention. he needs to quit finding others to blame and take responsibility for the role he played. after all, not only is he her father, he was her manager at the time she was cast in hannah montana, and if i'm not mistaken, also at the time she did the vanity fair nude shots. interesting that he's just now expressing his concern and blaming the role she made famous now that she has barely become a legal adult. three months ago, she was still a minor and he could have put a stop to it.

i know that you asked us to set aside judgment, and maybe i'm having difficulty doing that. or maybe i'm just trying to figure out what exactly we're supposed to be praying for here.

What you said - "the parents need some serious spiritual intervention."

There's a difference between assessing a situation and pointing fingers.

Assess - He needs to see what he did wrong in the whole process and repent. So pray that.

Assess - Miley's following a path of destruction. So pray for her repentance and salvation, a return to the straight and narrow, return to Jesus and His ways.

I'm having problems with this one. What parent let's their child do nude photo shoots? There is no way that would be happening if I was her father. That is a no-brainer.

Yeah, that's why we need to pray for them rather than keep blabbing about their sin and ignorance and whatever.

Note: I've learned enough about Hollywood to know that the battlefield there is so unlike what you and I have to face. The Christians there are in a lot of hurt and deception and really they need spiritual rescuing not continued condemnation. We need to intercede for them.

Think of it this way - if they are candles to shine God's light in the darkness, the spiritual forces of Hollywood are gusts and gales of wind working to blow the candles out. Sometimes it's all they can do just to maintain a spark on the wick.

They need victory, and they won't get that if all we do is condemn them. They need our intercessions to be set free and overcome.
