Eph. 5:20- Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Giving thanks for all things seems really hard when you consider some of the horrible things we go through.

1 Thes. 5:18- In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Specifically I have a hard time giving thanks for 10 months of chronic pain, but maybe this is building character in Christ to a huge degree, and there is some purpose to this yet to be revelaed.

Phil. 4:7 has been encouraging:

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Of course thankfulness is a completely different Spirit than complaining. But those who are in pain, for whatever reason, endure in a thankfulness that is not understood according to the world. Job was of such integrity, not wanting to curse God no matter what. I don't think Job was thankful for the pain. I would think he was thankful for what he had been given that was lost. After all, without having what God gave him, he would have nothing to lose or be hurt over. If bad must happen, we can always be thankful it's happening to us and not to someone else.

Actually, one of the answers for all those hard questions is, blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth( Matt: 5:3) The first thought that comes to my mind is we deserve nothing from God and yet we are given salvation (for a mind bending experience read at least part of Georges "Difference between JUSTIFICATION and SANCTIFICATION" in the Study section). If youre truly humble, you will have acceptance and obedience understood. What is more, you will be content in palace or a hut (thought borrowed from Mother Teresa, though Im not Catholic). Meaning you wont be tricked by vanity or pride and will react with Christs peace. But it takes great sacrifice and faith.

Most challenging doctrine for me:

Romans 9:13:24 Basically about God making vessels (people) made for destruction. However humility comes into play here too: that is I may not understand but I accept Gods will. Also, I keep in mind that the Bible is at its root about love as was mentioned in this thread).
