HI VIK, WELCOME  You did well to ask about what church, In fact as a christian you must always QUESTION what is being taught to you for your own PROTECTION, The BIBLE teaches MAN HEART IS DEPERATELY WICKED, So you must not TRUST MAN " FULLY" a good amount, but NOT TOTALLY, So as a new christian question everything, and this is a MUST, When someone says, The BIBLE SAYS this or that, And no matter who that PERSON is, Ask him or her, SHOW ME WHERE IT SAYS THAT IN THE BIBLE, And read it for yourself, making sure it's not taken out of context. Now for the churches, NOT ALL CHURCHES ARE GOOD, be wary, they're many CULTS out there, and as a new christian you should know which ones they are. Here are a few for sure, J.W.'S or jehovah witnesses, MORMANS, as nice as they are, UNITARIANS, CHRISTIAN SCIENCE, Stay away from these for sure, But don't trust in ME, : Again, Always ASK and CHECK for yourself, It was nice talking to you, Hope this helps.............TAKO

If it hasn't been said already, stick your nose in the bible and keep it there even after you start going to a church. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth, ask Him to. He will. Glad to have met your acquaintance.

Listen to these folks, my precious sister, they know what they are talking about.

When I was saved in October of 2003, I was attending a church that did not preach the Gospel, was unBiblical, and was devoid of saints to the best of my knowledge.

Worthyboards helped me in the fellowship department while I prayed for several months as to where I should begin to attend church.

I tried researching them on the internet, but that can be very misleading. I almost ended up visiting what I later dicovered were unBiblical churches twice.

Finally, God answered my prayers. :il:

I had been making up for my lack of a sound church by reading every book about my Jesus that I could get my hands on. I suddenly began to realize in late December that the majority of the Biblical and edifying books I had been studying were written by Baptist teachers and preachers!

A week after Christmas, I visited a Baptist church. It was wonderful! The sermon was wonderful, the prayers were actually adressed to God, rather than "vain repetitions". The people there were Christians... they loved God and they loved each other.

I prayed about it and decided that I should wait a week or two to make a decision. I attended my old church the next week, as I had to crucifer (ceremonies were a huge thing).

The next week, my aunt's grandmother, who attended a Baptist church, asked my aunt to inform me that her church would be having communion and a baptism, and that I was more than welcome to visit.

I did... I got baptized and became a member of that church shortly thereafter. I have grown more spiritually since then than I would have thought possible. I love the people, I love the fact that the church uses the Bible as their basis for everything, and I love the way the Holy Spirit works so mightily!

I cannot know what God has for you... your going to have to pray and trust Him for that.

However, I can tell you that I have found Independant Baptist churches to be very Biblical and God-honoring as a whole, as well as extremely involved in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout their areas, and throughout the world.

(Disclaimer- They are called "Independant" for a reason. They must hold a specific doctrine and world view to be called a Baptist church, but occasionally you can find one that is not so good. )

Pray fervently and often, and trust the One who saved you to sustain you. :il:

In the name of the Most High God,

NF

Amen.

Pray to God and get to know Him through His Word. That is the most important thing to you now. The more you know the less likely you are to be deceived in a false church.

Blessings to you Vik and welcome to the family

My advice to you is to be careful of churches that are KJVO (King James Version Only)believers.

Although I'm sure that they truly Love the Lord, they tend to believe that the KJV is the only correct Word of God.

While I believe that the KJV is a beautiful poetic piece of work, I admit that it can be a little hard to understand especially if you are a new believer. (Unless of course you are well versed in Old English :) ) I have a KJV and a NAB. I was raised IFB (independant fundamentalist Baptist) and now I am Catholic. I find the poetic language of the KJV easier to memorize, but the NAB easier to understand in modern language

Here is a wonderful site for a new Christian (or any Christian) RBC Ministries that offer online daily devotionals and other helps in your Christian walk.

Peace of Christ to you.

God Bless you Bereal

A church in a way is like anything else - you have to feel good in it, you sort of need to try it on like a dress or something to see if it is comfortable. You don't have to join a church to go and try it on for size. And you can go more than once without joining. You don't have to join until you know this is the church that fits you the best.

I have a neighbor who was going to her church but she gradually stopped because it didn't suit her. She tried another (mind you in this case it was the same religion, just a different church) and she loves it there and is involved happily like she never was at the other one.

Shop around and I hope you find a comfortable place. God is everywhere.

Bless you :dove

Most of the advice I've seen so far is good. Welcome to the fold! :P

Do read the Bible. DO measure your life and the church you choose against the Bible. I personally like to attend non-denominational churches, often refered to as Bible churches. These churches preach from the Bible and use it as the basis for their functioning. They don't add anything to the Word. I've been to two Calvery Chapels in this city and has appreciated and felt comfortable in both. I'd recommend them highly. :D

God bless.

wow. Thank you all so much! I have to wonder though, why can I not attend a J.W.'s church or a mormon church? I haven't heard anything about them being cult in my area. Also, I have heard that a pentacostal church or an Assemblies of God church believes something unbibical and a catholic church is hardcore bible. What do you think?

Thanks again for all of these great responses.

Be real,

I'm not an expert on this, but I believe it's because they don't believe in the Blessed Trinity which is God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit = Three Divine Persons but only One God.

I know it can be confusing...and to make it worse, some churches won't always be truthful at first. Before we were born again, my wife studied 2 years with the Jehovah Witnesses until the truth was revealed.

Simply put, the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses both deny the deity and sovereignty of Jesus Christ, our Lord & Savior. The Roman Catholics lean on universalism, an idea that all people will be saved through the church. The Assemblies of God are actually very sound in doctrine and believe in the complete Gospel of Jesus Christ. Some folks may falsely criticize them because the Assemblies of God are Pentecostal, which means they believe that the Holy Spirit manifests Himself through various GIFTS.

Regardless, Nero

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
