I agree with Shilo.

On my last trip to Israel this was what the guide told us also.

Remember...they were going back to the mountain where Jethro lived...in Midian.

Midian has always been on the west coast of what is now called Saudi Arabia. There was a documentary done on this a few years back ( I think it was Peter and Paul Lalond?) where they retraced that journey. After they got across they traveled for 3 days and found an oasis of about 70 Palm trees which sure sounds like Elim to me.

Then they traveled further to a mountain which is named in arabic "mountain of the Law"

There is enough room around this mountain for 4 million people to have camped. Not so at what is called Mt Sinai on the Sinai peninsula of Eygpt.

Also...there are plenty of escape routes through or around the Sea of Reeds. That wouldn't be a miracle.

I came across the claim that in Exodus the actual Hebrew says that Moses led the Israelites through a Sea of Reeds, not the Red sea many years ago, forgot about it, and came across it again today. Is this a correct translation of the Hebrew if so, why do Christians continue to refer to the event as the crossing of the Red Sea.

Link to an article on this here.

No doubt in my mind...

I don't claim to know everything but I do suggest that you check out the video I mentioned eariler. It seems to point to what shiloh was saying, In fact it is quite amazing. Don't cast it out until you check out all possible circumstances. You might be extremely suprised.

happy hunting.

Well it is certainly a fascinating undertaking...I am aware of the investigations of Ron Wyatt in the 80's and later the two treasure hunters Bob Cornuke and Larry Williams...it all makes good reading/videos and sells well...very much like the speculations concerning the location of the Ark of the Covenant...or the resting place of Noahs Ark...or more recently the sub-Dead Sea location of Sodom and Gomorrah.

When it comes to Biblical archaeology I absolutely love it...but I am also a massive sceptic simply because so many theories abound...many of which are undoubtably seeking headlines and focus on sensationalism...which I understand as it goes with the territory and helps capture peoples imagination and raise funds.

I enclose a short extract from some of my files (I have loads) that shows just one small aspect that refutes the idea of Jabal al Lawz being the probable site for Mt Sinai. I have not totally dismissed it...I am just not convinced. By the way I lived on the shore at Nuweiba for a short while at the exact spot the Israelites were supposed to cross this part of the Red Sea into Arabia/Midian...and the sea glows Red in the evening from the sun reflecting off the mountains...but that is another story.

A crucial Biblical text for locating Mt. Sinai is Deuteronomy 1:2. Here it states that it took 11 days for the Israelites to travel from Horeb (Mt. Sinai) to Kadesh Barnea in the northern Sinai. This limits the location of Mt. Sinai to 60 or so miles from Kadesh Barnea. The straight-line distance from Jebel al-Lawz to Kadesh Barnea is approximately 150 miles. Allowing for diversions to find water, twists and turns, and ups and downs, the walking distance would be much greater. This is much too far for the Israelites to travel in 11 days.

Even more devastating to the Saudi Arabia theory is the yam suph (Reed Sea) crossing. According to the Bible it occurred at the beginning of the journey shortly after the Israelites set out from Ramesses (Ex 12:37; 13:20-14:2; Nm 33:5-8). The Saudi Arabia theory places the yam suph cross-ing near the end of the journey at the Strait of Tiran at the southern end of the Gulf of Aqaba, some 350 map miles from Ramesses. There is no way the Israelites could have reached the Strait of Tiran within a few weeks after having left Egypt.

The traditional site of Jebel Musa cannot be Mt. Sinai either. The distance from Jebel Musa to Kadesh Barnea is about 160 map miles, again much too far for the Israelites to trek in 11 days.

Utilizing the travel time of the Israelites as an estimate of the distance traveled, the location of Mt. Sinai should be sought in the northern area of the Sinai Peninsula, roughly 60 miles from Kadesh Barnea.

I think it is important to study, in fact study in depth, bible scripture and not just be drawn in by media a particular church, or the popular thought of the day. So Botz in that resect I commend you.

I have not been here long enough to know or even remember where everyone stands in thier beliefs to God. I know where I stand. There are so many people finding what they believe to be contradictions or falocies (sp?) in scripture and we have the choice to investigate or stand on the faith that we have either been taught, or studied ourselves.

We are responsible TO each other but not FOR each other, so in our hearts we do just that when we voice our beliefs. What a sad world it would be if EVERYONE had no regard for each other.

When our life on earth as we know it ends... then we will know the truth. Whether you have faith in the bible, evolution, or space aliens we will all face that truth when the time comes.

There has been too much that has gone on in my life to chalk it up to coincidence, I have seen a lot of things that in my opinion I must give credit to God for. Free will is a funny thing isn't it?

Anyway, no yelling, no exclamtion points so please don't put them at the end of any of my sentences. I am just talking :sweating: :sweating: :sweating: :sweating: :sweating:

Thanks for the link! I for one will check it out.

Love the strory of the Christian and the Atheist, Irish! I was going to post that one myself and was looking to see if anyone would post it. I heard that one about twenty years ago and it is cool to see it posted.

This debate isnt anything new, as I said I have heard this debate years ago and the fact the Lord drowned an entire Egyptian army in the red sea or reed sea to me is irrelevant.

And if the Lord drowned the army in two inches of water, Wow, that is supernatural! Either way God is awesome and is worthy of praise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way I hope you understood that my comments at the top of the page about so called contradictions were in a sense a challenge to find any...because I believe completely in the inerrant truth of G-ds word...but I also recognize mans handiwork in some less than accurate translation work...but it is so small comparitively and in absolutely no way diminishes the truth contained in Scripture.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
