Is there a Tennessee lawyer in the house?

I'm hoping there might be a Tennessee lawyer amongst the Believers here who could give the answer to a very simple question. Is the remarried widow responsible for the medical bills of the former spouse?

My wife was a widow when we married back in April 2011. Her husband passed from our world to that of his Lord in 2009. His medical creditors have just been absolutely immoral in the way they have intimidated my wife into continuing to pay for tens of thousands of medical bills for (may he rest in peace) a dead man. Frankly, it's taking a toll on her physically and emotionally as well as financially, and even more frankly, it's really making me angry at the tactics they use. The man has gone to his reward and this lot is just bound and determined to have their money, even if we have to starve.

Is there relief for this wickedness?

You need to speak with a consumer law attorney in person on this I think. Your initial appointment with this person should be free. You may not be able to get this resolved without hiring an attorney, since your wife has already been making payments. But in the mean time, I would be making use of caller id and an answering machine and not picking up the receiver unless it is someone you know or recognize the phone number. All other calls, let the machine answer

They are NOT to abuse you in any way shape or form. They can NOT threaten you with bodily harm, threaten to publish your name for non payment, use abusive language, or continually call you to annoy you.

They can NOT make false claims such as; your committing a crime, they are a gov. agency, credit reporting company, misrepresent the amount you owe, papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are

They can NOT threaten to have you arrested for non payment. Seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages UNLESS they are permitted by the court. Give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company. Harass your family or friends or other third parties.

They are NOT to call you before 8 am or after 9pm, unless you agree to it. If they have been told that your place of work does not allow calls, then they are NOT to call you at your place of work or harass your boss or co-workers.

Not a lawyer but my mom faced a little of what your wife is going through, she sent them his death certificate, make it clear she is living off just less than a thousand dollars a month and cannot pay it. The only thing that these companies have is to attach the debt to the house and take the money when the house is sold. I have to say that none of them did and that was 6 or 7 years ago. She lives in AL and each state is different.

Living in Canada I really have no idea about your state but is there no stipulation that the funds must come out of the estate only? Do not creditors have to apply asap?
