The Feast of Sukkot would have been when He was born, during that time it would have been extremely crowded with feast goers and why there was no room in the city for them. Also that at the end of the feast Messiah was taken to the temple and circumised. Since Herod knew that people would flock to Jerusalem for the feast it would make sense to have the census done at the same time. Here's where you are losing us, though. Bethlehem was always their original destination, not Jerusalem. I dont doubt that at all it was prophecied that He would be born there. Don't you think that God had a hand in it all? after all He made it all possible, He sent His son to be born in a place where He chose, parents He chose and at the time He chose. If He was born during Dec. we might see that in scriptures but we don't, we can deduce when He was born by the temple services and a few other things. If we believe in Gods plans for us, that He set things in motion all that time ago, that He fufills His promises then we can be certain that He will fulfill the feasts also, a Savior was born during Sukkot, He came to dwell amoung us to bring into fulfillment the promise of the Messiah and He will come again during this time to fulfill the promise to dwell with us forevermore. They were going to Bethlehem because Joseph being of the lineage of David had to go there to be registered and Jesus was of David's royal line the soon coming King of Kings who will sit on His father David's throne. Luke 2 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, 5 in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. Did God know that those things would happen? We read that Joesph took them to his home town that was prophecied to happen, so how come they cannot be at the same time? After He was born they went to the temple and did all the things according to the commandments, could this be also Sukkot and going to the temple to give a sacrifice as well as have Him circumcised and to keep the 8th day? She could only be in the temple when the gates where opened, the only time that the gates are opened all night is on Yom Kippur, the day of Atonement, the temple gates did not remain open all night except that night. Whether or not that correlated with the feast isn't stated as such. But it's possible Bethlehem would have been crowded anyway. Considering how many children David had, then how many children Solomon had, can you imagine how many descendents there were from the line of David?
