So I'm going to play the honesty game a bit more than I usually do because this is the internet and we are not person to person. I'm weak in many areas in my life. My guess is that most of us have certain temptations in certain areas that attack our lives. It dosen't matter which sin it is, theres a long list and sin is sin. I have been trying my level best to walk as Jesus would have me walk. I have on many occasions and still do FAIL miserably. Then I throw the guilt into my guilt back back that I have been carrying around for 25 years since I accepted Christ at 16. I see these WWJD bracelets. I even wore one for a while. What would Jesus do? Could it be something that we can't do? Should the bracelet say? Perhaps, COJN.

"Call on Jesus now". I cant do what Jesus dose but I wonder if just before I "fail miserably" I can call on Jesus and say"here I am with that evil temptation knocking on my door. My body and mind or telling me that I will not get relief until I give in. I am very weak. Please be my fortess in this moment of temptation and grace me through this so I can have victory. Give me the grace to turn away through your power over the enemy. Now! please. I wish to be obedient''. Or do I grit my teeth and try to weather the storm until it passes? Any thoughts?

Deliverance available in the name of Jesus for every believer. Mark 16:17,18.

Let's look at what the Word says,

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7

So here we see that we are to submit to God. God must be the Lord of our life. We are to be obedient to Him. Then, we resist the devil. We should stay away from anything that might cause us to be tempted. Run from the temptation! Then the Word says that the enemy will flee.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:10-12

We must daily suit up in the armor of God. Our battle is not with flesh and blood! We need to keep our armor tight and check for any clinks in it! When we are suited up, we will be able to effectively fight the enemy and resist temptation! God gave us an offensive weapon and that is His Word! We must fight back through the power of the Holy Spirit!

God Bless!

My friend.......

As I was trying to think of what to say here....

whether , to turn to scripture or from my own experience.

This is what just happened......

I was walking back to the computer with another cup of coffee,

and thinking what I was going to say..........

The LORD spoke to me......YES, HE sure did.......This is for you....

THE LORD said, AVERT....TURN....

I wasn't thinking upon this word , and maybe heard it 30 years ago,

in school.I don't remember the definition.....

So, I immediately, looked up the word in the dictionary.

AVERT.......to turn (the eyes, etc.) away. To ward off. Prevent.

I was so....startled.....

This is what the LORD said to do.......

You can believe it or not ......but , I thought I would let you know about

this.....I think that what HE said, was not only for you but for everyone..

This is my, opinion.......

Being aware.... not to act upon our thoughts, that could cause us to sin.

Through, self- discipline, and we trying to be obedient unto GOD.

The Bible says.....

Keep your foot evil .

I hope this helped you.

THANK YOU, OUR LORD for your WORD in this.....

LOVE and PEACE to everyone,

When temptation comes upon me, I close my eyes and say "Jesus take captive that thought - I want to be obediant only to you!"

Simply gritting our teeth and wathering the storm will give you the false belief you can do it without him. When you start thinking that, the failure will come.

I've done that. I've got through simply on my own willpower and I was so proud of myself for not resisting to temptation. But guess what happened? I turned right around and failed again. Because I didn't acknowledge my need for dependance on God.

God has given you the spirit of power - and only he will help you overcome.

Great post, BTW. Good questions!

All Good Posts! Thanks...

Sometimes the things that cause temtation dont stay away from us. So in that moment when your mind starts to wrestle, do you believe there is power aside from yourself that can deliver you? The thought comes and you confess to God that you have this weakness and in the midst of the thought process call on Jesus to get in the middle of the battle. Self disipline in the sence of NOT FORGETTING to call on Jesus to deliver you. Or do you just grit your teeth and say " I wont do it" over and over? Mantra?

By the way, it's not just one area in my life that I struggle with. This is a general sin question. For me its not the usual stuff. Actually I dont steal, cheat on my wife, murder, so on and so on. Its the fantacies (greed, anger, violence, sex, pride and envy ect. ect.)and thought life I am refering to. All sins then can be included really. Mind wondering sort of thing. I scare myself sometimes even though in 41 years I've never really been in trouble or done (physically) much to get me in a fix. From the outside I might look like a real pillar of the community. Its what I know about myself and my own thoughts that aren't God's will. Am I the only one hear that struggles with wicked thoughts?

Dan....

I didn't see this post. This is exactly what I'm refering to. So what biblical references to you draw from to overcome temptation by the manner you have stated?

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

I mentioned this verse in another thread and I find it relevant here- it really is a fantastic verse, since we face temptation everyday. We are nothing without Him. God wants us to trust Him completely, in all aspects of our lives. Have you ever tried to run your life on your own terms? I have, and it's not pretty. God gives me the strength and guidance I need to live a life pleasing to Him. Why should we attempt to face difficulities without Him? It says in the Word that He'll never leave us, nor forsake us. We should take God at His Word. He is faithful and just. :il:

Good verse indeed! I am going to try to memorize it. I need to know that I am not alone in these situations. My old bible teacher used to say"the curse of a Christian is a bad memory".

God bless

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
