There is absolutely nothing wrong with entertainment. If you go to see a movie, listen to music, read a book, watch TV....there's nothing wrong with it.

As long as it doesn't become the focus of your life. As long as you don't make it your god, there's nothing wrong with it.

gah....what in the world is going on with this board and the legalism? Do you people not realize you're living in a spirit of fear and opression and not grace and love?

The Word of God needs no clarification, it means what it says.

Deut 6:6-12

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

Let it be known that God used a movie, "The Passion of the Christ", to bring me back to Him. God uses things for His Glory.

We do have to qualify all things that we say in these posts. If a movie is based on The Bible and is not promoting false doctrine it can be another form of reading, and meditating on God's word. There are also some very good books that contain the testimony of how men have lived The Scriptures out in their lives. I guess the best way to qualify something would be does it glorify God, or something else, and if it glorifies God I would say it would be okay. There have been TV programs, and shows that are also used to glorify God. We don't have to be so rigid that we eliminate all other forms of communication that can also be used, and are used to glorify God. But if a Christian is to be obedient they will not partake of that which they know is not glorifying to God. I watch CD's that are biblical, and I will go to the movies that are written about The Bible. So my contention is that a Christian should not waste there time on ungodly entertainment.

So where does The Bible tell you to go to a movie? Is there anything in this world that is more enjoyable than time spent with the lover of your soul? When you met you first love how many movies to you ever go to in preference to spending time with the love of your life? Your personal time with God is the most enjoyable thing in this world. But it is all a matter of choice.

God doesn't tell us to use a computer either, yet you're on one. He doesn't tell us to get on an airplane, but I'm sure you've flown on one before.

There is nothing wrong with entertainment people. Even in the New Testament certain lines from Greek plays are quoted or certain idioms that originated from Greek plays are used. We're missing the point.

Yes, if we go to an ungodly movie then that is a problem. However, to label all forms of entertainment as evil is ignoring the freedom and grace we've been allowed to live in. I can take Jesus to a movie with me. Yes, if it consumes all my time, then it's wrong. Yes, if my entire goal in life is to pursue entertainment in a hedonistic way, then I am sinning. However, if I just go to a movie on a friday night because the movie looks interesting, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. A lot of movies are historical and you can learn a lot out of them. Likewise, if I go to a concert, nothing wrong with that.

People, let's not take it to the extremes. Just because something can lead to over-indulgence doesn't mean we should avoid it completely.
