Dime,

Do you recall the scripture that says paul rebuked Peter for pretending to be like the Jews when he was with them and like the gentiles when he was with gentiles?

But the scripture you speak of says Paul pretended to be like others too in order to save them.

Something is misunderstood here...

I believe you speak of:

Galatians chapter 2:

11When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong. 12Before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. 13The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.

14When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, "You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?

15"We who are Jews by birth and not 'Gentile sinners' 16know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.

17"If, while we seek to be justified in Christ, it becomes evident that we ourselves are sinners, does that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! 18If I rebuild what I destroyed, I prove that I am a lawbreaker. 19For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"

My first thoughts are that Paul didn't change the restrictions he put on people coming to Christ while Peter did. I will have to study a bit more on this.

Guys,

If you will check out this thread http://www.worthyboards.com/forums/index.p...opic=12661&st=0 I think you will find every view of this topic. We debated it for weeks. Lots of differing views and I think we were quite respectful and God was in the study, as these can get really ugly.

Blessings!

Greetings evangelina,

I pray you the Joy of the shepherd :36:

[You said]

I think they were an all new set of commands and only some are based on the old ones and some were opposite.

[My question]

Can you provide scripture that will support the new commandments, and any place where you find opposites? (Jesus fulfilled the law)

[Romans 13:8;9]

8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

[Matthew 19:16-23]

16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

[i John 2:3-8]

7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

[My testimony]

In the following verses John does reference a new commandment, that new command is the same as the old; "Love you one another, as you love yourself". Love is the foundation of all the commandments. Christ Jesus is the Love of God manifested.

[John 13:34-35]

34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

[iI John 1:5-6]

5 And now I beseech thee, lady (Church), not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6 And this is love, that we walk (operate) after his commandments (instructions). This is the commandment (order), That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk (operate) in it.

[Testimony of God]

[Leviticus 19:11-18]

11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

12 And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

13 Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.

14 Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour; I am the LORD.

17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

[My testimony]

Sounds like the same message (commandments) to me, maybe you will enlighten me to a difference.

Walking with all people in the spirit of love,

your brethren in Christ,

I can't clarify this issue for you evangelina, but I can tell you what I've been taught all my life.

I assume you are speaking of the portion of scripture where Jesus tells the Pharisees that the most important commandments are "love the lord your god with all your heart soul mind and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself" (forgive the paraphrase).

I've always been told that by living first to love the Lord with all my heart, mind soul and strength, the rest would follow. I can't very well love my neighbor if I don't love myself, and I can't very well love myself (nastiness that I am) if I don't love the Lord.

If I love him, I'm following him; if I'm following him, I'm doing what he said, living what he lived. If all that is true, the other commandments, those of moses (I believe that really is what Jesus was talking about if I look at the context of that scripture) are going to be simple fruit in my life. If I love Jesus, why would I commit adultery? Why would I steal? It simply wouldn't be in my heart to do. It's not a matter of law. It's a matter of love.

The law and the prophets are fulfilled by the love which Jesus gave. If we walk by the spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit, we will be shown mercy accordingly. If we walk by the spirit of the law, we will be judged accordingly.

Reading over this it seems terribly hypothetical and not very personal and I'm sorry if it doesn't help. But maybe it will help somebody.

This is my beloved and this is my friend, oh daughters of Jerusalem

[My testimony]

No truer words were ever spoken, great testimony. On this morning, know this, that two agree:

[Matthew 18:18-20]

18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Romans 2:13

for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.

Romans 3:31 Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.

romans 7

12 So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.

15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.

16 But if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that the Law is good.

Romans 2:13

Not sure how your trying to use this Scripture but no one can be justified by the law unless you keep the whole law with out sin. But we all know that no one has ever kept the whole law with out sin except the Son of God. If you read that scripture in context. Paul is telling Jews that just because you read and hear the law does not make you righteous, its those who keep the whole law without sin that are righteous. Paul goes on to say that those who have sinned with the Law (Jews) are just as guilty as those who have sinned with out the Law (Gentiles). Therefore just because you go to your synagogues and read and hear the law every sabbath does not make you righteous; its those who keep it. There is only two ways to be made righteous in the eyes of God and that is through faith in God or by keeping the whole law with out sin.

Being justifed by faith gives us the freedom to fulfill the law with out guilt or condemnation of our past transgression of the Law and the power of grace to live as God would have us live. Its like God giving us a clean slate so that we can serve God in love.

The bible is clear that no man can be justified or made righteous by the law unless you keep all the whole law with out sin.

Jam 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all the law.

There is noone out there but Jesus who has kept the whole Law with out sin. No one has ever been justified by the Law. All are guilt of the Law both Jew and Gentile alike.

Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

God bless,

RN2B,

Right on, like John said if we love him we will keep His commandments, so the keeping is the result of loving Him. If one kept the two love commandments as Jesus said, all the law and prophets hang on them, I can't see how any could be broken. The main point is that the keeping of the law can only be done by us if we love Him as He loves us, and there is no way way anyone with only salvation as their motive would be able to keep them. If we don't love God we are loving our flesh, and we will obey it.

Greetings His son,

God's blessings :emot-hug:

[You said]

The main point is that the keeping of the law can only be done by us if we love Him as He loves us.

[My testimony]

His, there are two great commandments, we can not demostrate the one unless we do the other:

[Romans 13:8-10]

8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

[My testimony]

Love has been the commandment from the beginning:

[Leviticus 19:18]

Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

[My testimony]

we demostrare our love for God, by how we treat and love our brethren/sisters.

[i John 4:20-21]

20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

Walking with all people in the spirit of peace,

your brethren in Christ,

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
