How does this not default into simply saying that I believe the Bible is the Word of God because the Bible says it is the Word of God?

Nor Is It By My Belief Or Lack Of Belief

For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. Romans 3:3-4

That Give The Holy Words Of God The Power To "Make It So"

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Matthew 5:18

But It Is The Mighty God Who Spoke It Through Mere Mortals That Has And Is And Will Make It So

I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. Psalms 138:2

Bottom Line, It Is Not Men That Will Make The Bible True, It Is God

O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalms 34:8

So Eat

I believe the Bible to be the Word of God, absolutely. It has proven itself for thousands of years to be true. No believer doubts God's Word.

Because my spirit flees to it in times of need. I studied philosophy, practiced other religions, and when I am faced with a life or death situation I cry out for my Father and the strength of Jesus as if it is second nature. Now I seek to make it my first nature.

It's similar to asking, why drink water? Many people will answer, because it sustains life. But we also drink because we're thirsty. And in fact usually the need is so primal we need not ask why.

I was reading Corinthians today, and Paul says in 1:18 that the message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction and that nonbelievers will not comprehend the significance of God's word. He says that is what the scriptures mean when they say, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him" (2:9). So it would make very little sense explaining why the word of God rings true to us.

And also as a note, the word of God can be found outside the Bible, but the Bible is our inspired source; our litmus test, and it corresponds to the wisdom we receive through Christ Jesus. It rings like a bell.
