Oh come now, he is inherently evil. He has a pipe in his mouth all the time....THAT'S GOING TO ENCOURAGE KIDS TO SMOKE CRACK! :)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Nonsense...............It is a well-known fact that Popeye was a pot head. Think that it was always spinach coming out of that can? Come on. Why else do you think he was a sailor? He was smuggling keys of dope in the bottom of his boat from Columbia.

An old song comes to mind...

"Let's talk about Jesus

the King of kings is He

the Lord of lords, Supreme,

through all eternity.

The Great I Am,

the Way,

the Truth,

the Life

the Door,

Let's talk about Jesus,

more and more!"

And how dare we let kids watch Popeye-that might give kids the impression that by eating spinach they can get strong!  Well that might just turn one of them off to God in the future... :)  :)   :)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

As a kid I was never especially bright even less now that I'm an adult, but I never believed that spinach would make me as strong as Popeye or Keds shoes could make me jump higer and run faster. :)

AS the person who started this thread I feel now that you are making rather a lot of fun of me and the subject title I chose. Some of you are actually taking the time to make good points with research to back it up, others are engaged in comments that are exceedingly ridiculous.

I meant this thread to prompt thought as to the various effects of teaching my children (and the children of all of us) something that I didn't find in the bible and by choosing the title I did for this thread, I wanted to achieve an insiteful discussion of fairies leading children away from Christ and if my assumption of that was correct.

I am upset at the people here taking pot shots at each other and if it continues, I'll ask one of the forum mods to close this thread.

Can do...I can understand why you feel the way that you do.

As for my opinion on the matter...I don't feel there is anything wrong with fairy tales. I grew up reading them, watching movies etc and I knew they were fake and God was real. What I think that it helped me with is growing my imagination/creativity. It had no ill affects on my belief in or relationship with God. If you are uncomfortable with reading fairy tales to your children or allowing them to watch Peter Pan and stuff, then don't do it. Do what the Holy Spirit leads you to do. What everyone here thinks is inconsequential to you following the Lord in obedience. :24:

God Bless!

I'm sorry you are offended, however I ask that you understand where we're comming from.

God talks about how hell will not prevail against the gates of His church. He also says train up a child in the ways of the Lord. To many of us a simple show such as Peter Pan or a little fairy like Tinkerbell do not affect the way a child acts. It's suprising that many people believe that a child could be swayed so easily.

I was not really raised in a Christian home. My dad claimed cultural Christianity but never lived a Christ-like life until I left the house. At the age of ten he became a legalist. Prior to him becomming a legalist I watched all the Disney movies and even the "heavier" movies (such as Willow). Yet never did it effect my belief and faith in God. I read the Bible on my own (before the age of 10), asked a lot of questions to my mom, and really didn't struggle. It wasn't until my dad became a legalist, rid the house of all disney movies, declared all secular music and rock music evil, that I began to doubt God.

So I see where you're comming from, but you have to remember that being too over bearing or being legalistic about what our children watch can cause them to actually doubt God. You need to remember that as a parent you are a direct ambassador to that child from the moment they are born to the moment they leave the house of what God is like. So there's nothing wrong with letting them watch a fairy tale as long as they understand that it is a fairytale. I think the articles you read are flawed. You see, the Pharisees (legalist) have forgotten what it is like to be as children. They forgot how it was. yet God calls us to have child like faith. A faith that is curious. Likewise, a child can tell reality from fairytale. A child can tell the difference between Peter pan and Jesus Christ. Legalist criticize Peter pan because he was a "rebellious" boy who never wanted to grow up. Well Jesus told us not to grow up! Peter Pan represents the exact thing that Christ wants us to stay. Imaginative, curious about life, constantly seeking, and always on an adventure.

So don't be afraid of this stuff...children aren't as stupid as we think they are :24:

God talks about how hell will not prevail against the gates of His church.

Joel, you need to get the basics of doctrine right. This is backward. The gates are the "Gates of Hell" not the church. And we are to batter them down, in so doing they will not stand against our battering.

Mt 16:18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Gates don't attack, as a matter of fact they can't attack; they just hold something in or out. If we would batter them down the captives would be set free.

Again the only answer anyone has given in response to my position is from the world or ridicule. Where is the scripture to back up your position? You accuse me of being "a legalist." Is that all you can do is resort to name calling and ridicule?

2Co 6:17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,
If you don't separate yourself from the things of the world you won't be accepted. Isn't that what this scripture says? What are these unclean things that we are not to touch?(NT)

Jas 4:4  Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Where did the ideas of fairies, goblins, spells, etc. come from? The Holy Spirit? I think not. God does not condone that which He condemns.

Deut. 18:9

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
